Crate was formed by former Titan Quest devs (can’t remember the name).

Dave the Diver. I was playing a pirated copy through October, it was a lot of fun so when it went on sale last week I bought it.

Nothing anymore. But from age 18 to mid 30s I kept my busted up old guitar pick in my wallet.

It had seen way too many shows, and it was brittle as hell. It’s in a shoebox with since other memories now.

Less unique, I carried around phenergan pills in my pocket for about 10 years. I’d had an episode of an unknown something setting off a reaction with my throat closing up. Urgent care gave me the tablets when I left the hospital and I couldn’t not take them everywhere with me for a long time.

You should say what the game is.

Certain games might have known specific workarounds, hacks, some obscure patch someone knows from an old forum, source ports or rereleases.

And then again certain games might be non-functional no matter what you try.

Probably just ask about it. They could be asexual. Years ago I was with someone who was, and we had sex, a lot of dirty fun, she was totally into it, but she didn’t cum and told me she doesn’t need to. I found out after that she loves having sex just to feel close and connect, not for sexual gratification, she didn’t masturbate either.

Without knowing your relationship history, maybe your partner is somewhere in this space but doesn’t openly talk about it?

A 3dfx Voodoo, it came with POD as a pack in game and it looked so good with Glide. My favourite racing game memories.

If you tighten just one side, it can pull the connector in that direction. Think of tightening heatsink screws unevenly on each side.

I don’t think you’d remember a break up from hundreds of years ago, let alone be upset about it.

I love how excited the red person is.

I was confused, but I think they might be asking why Veracrypt isn’t available as a flatpak

Shit job from 10 years ago. Getting too drunk at the office Christmas party and talking so much shit about my horrible fucking boss to a couple of influential senior managers who are close to the CFO. Freaked out all weekend about it, severe anxiety attacks. That mixed with the hangover I was just vomiting all weekend.

And then: Run into one of those senior managers early in the office on Monday morning, apologised for being inappropriate. Get a response “oh, we all know how bad she is, can’t believe you haven’t quit yet”.

She’s just salty because it turns out those two Hollywood phonies had a taser. And they tased her in the butthole. She fell to the ground but the phonies didn’t let up. Her butthole was on fire.

You can’t trust the system, man.

Stand By Me - The scene with the leaches. As a kid in a small country town with nothing to do on weekends but run around and swim in the local creek, I was so scared to ever do that again.

Depending what systems you want to emulate, just use ares.

Shutting down porn sites? Is that a thing they wanted to achieve? Like free video sites like PH or production companies like Brazzers?

Right before it launched I started seeing a ads for the game featuring Michelle Rodriguez. As soon as it launched the ads kept running but Rodriguez had been cut out of them. Someone must have given her management a heads up and they pulled the plug on that shit.

Kitchen window. About 2x3 metres if I remember right.

We had a trampoline in our backyard, outside the kitchen so mum could watch us while cooking or whatever. There was a huge hill (our house was in a bit of a mountainous area), and we decided to throw some rocks down the hill and bounce them off the trampoline… but we were uncoordinated 10 year olds so we missed every time. And it was just a bunch of little stones gathering in our backyard.

Then I found one rock. Pretty big, had to lift it with two hands and shot-put it down the hill. That was the one that we finally landed on the trampoline. And it bounced right through the kitchen window.

My favourite phone ever was my first android phone in 2010, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini (e10i). Every time I’ve had to buy a phone since, I’ve looked around trying to find something similar, but it feels like no such thing will ever exist.

Does anyone know what is the deal with the images (I assume it’s some kind of German meme) of people or characters with instant ramen on their head?

Makes sense. Remember all those classic Square RPGs on Sega consoles.

My partner bought me one a few months ago from Kogan for my birthday. But it does have a problem which needs to be RMA’d and I knew there was no hope of that.

I thought we could try our luck with Kogan returns, but they only have the OLED model now so don’t know how that would go. Especially as it appears to work fine ( until you get 5 - 10 minutes in-game then it hard crashes).

I found on the github issue tracker for steamOS someone from Brazil (who also had to resort to grey imports) found a way to flashback to an older BIOS and adjust memory power settings. That fixed it, but it’s a bit bodgy and introduces other issues.

This is a known issue that the Steam rep on the issue tracker said only follow that process if you absolutely can’t RMA it. They closed the issue in the basis that you just RMA it if it happens.

Automatic updates are there with the right distro. Which highlights the need to look around for the right distro for the use case.

Example being Opensuse Aeon - automatic updates - doesn’t even tell you it’s happening, just pops up “your system was updated” out of nowhere

Automatic rollback - if an update broke something you would never know, at boot the system will pick the previous snapshot with no user intervention

As far as the user is concerned you just have a working system; that it is the entire goal of that distro

I just cut a lizard in half with my mower. Couldn’t see it in the long grass 😢

Our bird isn’t with us anymore, but years ago I bought her a special made backpack with mesh windows and some wooden perches inside it so I could take her outside. It was excellent.

Absolutely. A few months after this I went directly to the person above my boss and explained the situation- mental health, physical health, turned into dependence on weekly psychologist sessions.

Basically told me to get over it.

This was a non profit organisation dedicated to helping homeless, refugees, victims of domestic violence, and elderly people who are unable to afford aged care. The people on the ground doing the work were amazing people. But the people in charge were all cosplaying as big business shitheads.

Yes, it’s great, one of my favourites on the Sega. Far more fun than the SNES adventure game.

I start as a decker. I think he might move a little faster to begin with which helps keep ahead of the gangs in the starting area. When they come, you can zig zag away from them to stay ahead, just keep doing that having them chase you around town in circles, taking pot shots when it’s safe. Some of the gangers drop medkits when they die, I sell these to more quickly get a better gun/armour.

There’s no value to killing civilians, you might even lose karma, just don’t do it.

With the shadowruns, just keep walking into Mr Johnson’s booth, if it’s a ghoul run, cancel the conversation and walk back in again. Most of the runs offered should be simple escort missions or courier jobs.

Once you get some karma and boost some stats a bit, and buy a better gun, you’ll have more survivability. Then you can take on some ghoul runs, which are the easiest way to make quick cash early on - get your negotiation up a few points and only take the run if it pays okay. Don’t bother taking a run that pays 15nuyen per ghoul for example, that’s a waste of your time.

Don’t upgrade your pistol/shotgun/SMG skills. Only upgrade firearms. The sub categories of firearms will go up to whatever your firearm skill is when you do upgrade it. (ie If you put a point in pistol, then you will continue to raise that skill as usual. But if you get firearm up to level 10 and then upgrade pistol, or smg, or shotgun, it will go straight to level 10 as well)

You can pretty easily get the Ares Predator after not too many simple runs. You’ll get familiar with so the places doing these runs, but:

Shiawase nuke plant = South

Halloweeners = South East

Chop shop = East

Abandoned building = north East

Prison = west

Coffin motel = centre

Weapons shop = centre/east

The two pubs are north west

Boris greenhouse = north/north east

One more place south west, can’t remember what they call it

I ran Bazzite on a mini form factor pc for about 12 months. It was just connected to the TV and used to play games.

I turned it on, I used my controller to start a game, that was it. I’m not sure what actions would be doing to break it.

I haven’t used it in about 6 months since I got a steam deck, but I just plugged it in and tried it again. Still starts up fine, played dead cells for a few minutes.

But if you’re looking for immutable distro for gaming then Bazzite is the gold standard.

Other immutable distros like Kinoite, Aurora, Aeon are targeted to desktop use, but in my experience they play games just fine too, no reason they wouldn’t (Aeon used to have a weird security policy that caused problems with Wine, but I think they changed that)

Multi-tasking should rightly be called “context switching”. Your brain is alternating its focus between two things in extremely quick succession.

Limited edition, just like every other product Analogue releases.

I’ve only owned two cars. So the worst by default was a 1987 Ford Laser I owned in 2003.

It was the “Ghia” model. So central locking, sun roof. My uncle had modified the wheels, steering wheel, carbon shifter.

I actually loved it and it handled so well on gravel roads. But eventually the cv joints went, repaired, they went again, leaving me stranded 30km out of the nearest town.

I tried to find the github issue, but it’s eluding me, so I’m going to go into detail since I spent about 3 weeks troubleshooting this.

Hard crash when playing a game. Restarts steam deck with a “verifying installation” message.

This happens anywhere from 2-15 minutes of playtime. Game didn’t matter, Terraria, Skyrim, Borderlands 1, Dave the Diver, Shredders Revenge, Doom 2016 … It was also reported by users with both LCD and OLED decks, so hardware revision didn’t matter either.

Anecdotally you find people saying that some of these steps work:

Memory retraining, re-imaging steam deck, Flashing different bios versions, Messing around with gpu clocks

But almost all of those threads loop back to the OP saying something like “nope, still crashing”. Any reprieve they did have seemed to be coincidental.

Valve themselves recommend those first two steps and then an RMA if it doesn’t fix it.

A Brazilian user in the issue tracker worked out you can flash BIOS 0116, and disable two specific memory power management flags. I believe the settings are hidden in other versions of the BIOS.

A Valve rep on the tracker confirmed that would work, but suggested not to do it as the deck is not functioning properly and needs to be replaced. They then closed the issue and advised to only use that fix if you can’t RMA.

Worth noting, 0116 is a pre-OLED BIOS, and can only be flashed to the LCD models. There is no way to reveal these BIOS flags on the OLED model, so you can only RMA in that case.

This has absolutely solved the problem. But I think I’m having a few dodgy side effects that weren’t happening before, like updates failing, and USB connection has become iffy and needing a few restarts to recognise devices are plugged in.

At least I can play games again, which work flawlessly now.

Post-hardcore. Typically 90’s old school like Fugazi and Hot Water Music, and then especially 2010s style “the wave” Touché Amore and La Dispute.

Not the 2000s style that veered into emo and Metalcore territory. Although there were some fantastic bands around that time that experimented with the classic sound, like Thrice and At The Drive In, and an obviously earlier example of that being Refused.

The combination of hardcore punk with slow and mid tempo breaks, throw in spoken sections or poetry. If it’s done right it’s just beautiful and makes you feel everything.

But if it’s done wrong, it’s so bad, don’t even bother. Honestly, for me, there’s so many 2000s-era bands that are unlistenable, and to me don’t even fit the genre as far as what came before and after them. But everything changes and people experiment with different sounds.

And it’s such a flexible genre, you have bands that take post-hardcore sensibility and turn it into indie rock, like Manchester Orchestra.

I’ve been using Opensuse Aeon just over a year and it’s done great.

Tumbleweed user for the last 5 years, and dealt with a few issues over that time. The usually infrequent update break that comes with rolling release. And the Opensuse ‘Patterns’ started, which I loathe and it’s a disaster to try to disable them every install.

Aeon hasn’t had any of those issues. It’s been very much a “turn it on and get to work”.

I’ve generally had less issues with Aeon than Tumbleweed - like certain flatpaks not crashing.

But downsides as I see them:

I’m not a gnome guy. It’s fine though, I don’t hate it. But some people can’t stand it.

I had a bit of trouble running wine. Something about the default security policy. There’s a known workaround.

It’s not retroarch. If you have been in emulation for a while that’s enough right there. No one is reusing retroarch cores here.

https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Ares

If you don’t want to spend 3 hours setting up an emulator, ares is basically just: open software, click to open what you want to play. The interface isn’t trying to reinvent a weird ps3 or Switch hybrid on your pc. It is similar to regular desktop software ui you might have used during your life.

Ares was developed by Near (rip). If you don’t know who that is, it’s a shame, but I’m not going to go into it here. It’s now maintained by people continuing Near’s work on trying to achieve cycle accurate, preservation quality emulation.

Some of the emulation cores, SNES, 32x, N64, MegaDrive and Sega CD are the best in class, by a wide margin. Turbografx is comparable if not better than mednafen. SNES especially good since that was Near’s main focus for many years - you might know it as bsnes or higan from before they started pushing the ares emulator more before they died.

Some systems are definitely best played elsewhere (mgba is better for gba, Stella is better for 2600, Duckstation for ps1, Sameboy for gameboy colour). But that defeats the purpose of your question. For the sake of having all the emulation in one place, ares usually do fine with these.

It can be taxing. If you are running an older underpowered machine, you might not have a good time.

Me. A flatpak Firefox means not adding a repo to install non-free codecs. A flatpak steam means not installing a hideous number of 32 bit libs. Can’t remember what software it is because I rarely use it, but another flatpak prevents me needing to build it from source.

But there are so many dodgy similar looking ones that auto complete if you’re typing it.

I went to type in the aka.ms to find a bit locker recovery key. And didn’t realise it autocorrected to something like akam.ms and it was a super sketchy site about bit locker recovery. Luckily I realised straight away even MS wouldn’t host a website like the one I saw.

Killed Facebook because the people who were into it and enjoyed using it.. stopped using it 10 years ago. If I were to log into my Facebook account right now, I would see my mum posting Sovereign Citizen stuff. My aunty sharing photo after photo of my nephews and nieces. My other aunty talking about her later life crisis holidays to South Africa. And advertisement after advertisement for random junk.

If I’m lucky, one of my friends will have posted something like “Photo from Butterfly Effect reunion last night. These guys still kick ass”

“Facebook” is alive and well but it’s a different product than we knew and, whether intended or not, target audience is boomers and terminally online jerkoffs.
