I don't think people really understand that reddit is an 18 year old product. Their original site was iterated on for 10 years before they stopped building on it.

Lemmy will get there and beyond. As the fediverse attracts more users, it will also attract more contributors. I'm starting to learn Rust myself in hopes I can contribute to the project at some point down the line.

Please for anyone reading, just be patient. Keep posting and commenting and it WILL grow. There are only like 1.2 million Lemmy users versus hundreds of millions of redditors.

If you follow the 90-9-1 rule, that leaves very few actual contributors and still Lemmy has a lot of good content daily. Just be patient and it will come.

What they want is freedom to control reality. What Republicans say, every day is not real, they don't live in reality. What they want is not free speech, they have that more than ever. What they want is to dictate reality to the rest of us.

Whatever Christie is doing, it's aimed for after the election. I think he's simply raising his profile for either a talking head spot on a network or a leadership role in the party post-Trump. I think he seriously underestimates the degree to which the party has shifted hard right, though.

Whatever ends up happening, it is going to be wildly entertaining seeing Christie trash Trump at the debates. I think he'll ridicule Trump for not even having the guts to be present for the debates, and that may trigger Trump to start participating.

When the API changes were announced, for the first time I started thinking I should leave reddit. This coin thing was just kicking me while I was down. Ok, they want to get rid of awards for a new system. But you also want to remove them from past posts?? And you're not going to convert coin balances into anything?

Those are the things a company that has no regard for it's users does.

Well not as many as you might think. I always recruited a lot of other mods to share the load because burn out is a huge problem. I’m still modding r/news but I’m winding down my Reddit presence. I also used a ton of automated tools like browser extensions and bots that I wrote myself to make the work easier.

I’m modding nearly 50 subs right now, down from about 80 as I slowly unwind my presence there. The site isn’t the same since so many subs are private still or restricted.

I read an article a few months ago from someone on twitter that was able to gain access to the newest one, the right stuff I think it was. The reports of the profile pics of guys in front of confederate flags with dozens of guns displayed around and the other things she saw there were hilarious. It was exactly as you say, no real women, just a bunch of guys that most women would never give a second look.

This is more a function of how Reddit’s databases and listings work. Automated tools can’t find all of your content because of the limitations on listings. It’s really funny though that people are ascribing abilities to a company with a very low competency level.

Hey hello. I made my first “resignation” post last night. I haven’t had time to properly untangle everything yet but im here now.

I don't really know because I haven't spent much time with it. I do remember either in one of the mod summits or somewhere that Spez admitted that new reddit was bad and that they were already working on the next version of reddit, which is what sh.reddit is supposed to be. New reddit is an abomination and I've only ever used it for settings old reddit does not have.

But to be honest with you, I haven't really spent any time on sh.reddit because you used to not be able to log in to it.
