Love to see clipping. mentioned in the wild

It's interesting how different people interpret attitude in vastly different ways. Because where you (and others I've seen in other threads) find him smug and an asshole, I only ever found him to be extremely sincere and excited to learn and educate.

Although, I'd love to know what channels you watch that cover similar topics! Wasting time on YouTube doesn't feel as unproductive if the videos are educational...

I swear I blinked and suddenly AI was so ubiquitous that I feel like I'm living, studying and writing incorrectly...

How small are the pineapples in Texas? Because a can of Monster is not the same size of any pineapple I've seen.

I emailed MSI support to get a new hinge for my F key. They repeatedly told me the entire keyboard needed to be replaced. After several days of back and forth, and me assuring the support person that, no I just need the key hinge, and that yes, they could just send me the hinge and I could fix it myself, they relented.

Took 30 seconds and didn't mean that a perfectly good keyboard be trashed.

I didn't for so long despite knowing about it, and now i cannot deal with YouTube without it

My husband's work in R&D often involves him looking to nature to find ways to improve the efficiency of designs and materials. Evolution has done a lot of work to figure out the most efficient way to deal with a problem, so giving a look to natural adaptions seems like a smart move.

And that's why everything that we've designed to solve a problem in our house is a crab.

Aaron Purr having a snooze

after a long day of work in retail.

Later he might yell at us to summon the ceiling birds, before yelling at the ceiling birds.

Particularly an issue when you’re googling an obscure software issue, you just get spammed with the same copy/paste “troubleshooting” steps. Which usually boil down to “reinstall this completely unrelated driver”.

Just reading this caused a small spike of ice cold fury within my soul

I needed to see this, just in general, today

Oh my god, I'm such a fucking idiot! Thank you for you patience and sorry for being so slow!

When I was more active in ED spaces, shows like these were really popular. I watched a lot of Supersize v Superskinny but didn't really bother with the others.

Came from a starved mindset where I so obsessed with food and weight that I only wanted to watch stuff that related directly to food and weight.

There was also discussion in ED spaces I was in about how the stuff that these shows were doing was unhealthy and fucked up but had been deemed entertainment and therefore permissable. But us doing similar stuff was (rightfully) seen as fucked up.

I want to stress that no one in the communities I was in was ever judging the contestants. The only people we were viewing negatively were the producers who were putting people in danger and also like, ourselves.

My family were doing a dog sledding trip and my brother came off and hit his head. We ended up putting him on my sled, with my job being to keep him awake in case he had a concussion. So I asked him to explain the rules to Twilight Imperium to me which, luckily and unluckily, took. Hours.

I've never hated, but been glad for, a game I've never played more...

(but I'm glad that you, and my brother, and other people get so much enjoyment from them!)

Would you give it all up for a moment of pure joy?

Whooooooos got a floofsky tumski?

Thank you for explaining! I'm almost impressed by how thoroughly I missed the joke.

Australia's federal legislation making non-consensual sharing of intimate images an offense includes doctored or generated images because that's still extremely harmful to the victim and their reputation.

This is the first comment about switching to Linux that makes me feel positively about the idea

Give me that quick save/load function

My whole childhood the Gates was touted as this super altruistic, good rich person who was all about charity. It was only after I found out about the whole Oxford vaccine thing (indenting my aside/rant)

Gate's urged Oxford to exclusively allow AstraZeneca the rights to their vaccine "rather than sticking to the university’s own guidance that any deal it makes include non-exclusive and royalty-free licensing", a deal with no guarantee of accessibility or affordability. Given that the vast majority of the funding of this vaccine was public funds...fuck that.

that I found out that the Foundation was always just a way to rehabilitate an image of ruthlessness I never knew he had. I guess it worked, given how he was discussed when I was growing up, but hopefully he won't be able to do it again.

Can I report these accounts without clicking on to their profiles?

Bouldering was a breakthrough for me. I didn't like top rope climbing because climbing just felt like an endurance test (admittedly, I was not climbing well) and I found belaying both boring and extremely stressful.

But bouldering feels like solving a puzzle and is something I can do both by myself and socially.

Yeah, plus it feels like the trends for my age group are just the trends from younger people, but with a slight delay

Wait, you have to pay to use your phone as a hotspot?!

Since I watched Series 4 in 2021, I don't think a week has gone by that I haven't watched an episode, or at least a clip, of some iteration of Taskmaster.

I feel like the comparisons of chickens from the 1950s to those today really highlight this

Also the sole completely detaching

I started seeing them in Sydney, like 3 months ago but suddenly they're everywhere and a store opened down the road from me.

And every time I see the name my brain pronounces BYD as "buy" with a "d" on the end and makes a stupid pun about purchasing one.

Jesus. I'm extremely ashamed that I've never questioned the whale narrative before...

Thank you!

If you gave me 1000 chances...I would not have guessed the end of that headline...

While I understand that others have different priorities with phones, I've never quite understood why Lemmy is so enraged by the absence of a headphone jack...

I prefer wireless headphones. When I had wired headphones I used to regularly yank my phone off the counter when cooking, or try to walk away from my desk while tethered by a cord.

If I did ever need to use wired headphones, using an adapter isn't that big a deal to me. Although I'd probably have to use a magnetic adaptor so that when I inevitably forget that I'm connected to it and walk away, my phone/entire desktop doesn't come with me.

Love seeing Australian stuff in the wild

Shukshuka is my go to; I make big batches of the spicy tomato stuff and then warm that and then add egg whites and cheese

While I don't necessarily agree in this case, you did remind me of something Justice Kirby (an Australia Hugh Court (our highest court) Judge) wrote in his dissent in Carr v Western Australia.^1

"He was a smart alec for whom it is hard to feel much sympathy. But the police were public officials bound to comply with the law. We should uphold the appellant's rights because doing so is an obligation that is precious for everyone. It is cases like this that test this Court. It is no real test to afford the protection of the law to the clearly innocent, the powerful and the acclaimed."

^1 232 CLR 138, 188 [170].

There's also one in Sydney! No idea if the franchise is there. But I'm always a slut for eggs.

This was very confusing until an hour later when I saw that he'd dropped out

Oh, I'm aware that a trait surviving doesn't necessarily mean it's the best and I'm not trying to say that everything from the natural world is something you'd put in a design (you truly cannot understand how much I hate the human musculoskeletal system).

With that said, there are also a lot of really cool adaptions that can be utilised in R&D. My point was more a general comment about biomimicry being rad. Also, I think I was considering evolution as something of a...database that can be good to use when doing R&D.

Sorry if this isn't very coherent...I'm meant to be asleep...

Also always happy to hear about weird quirks of evolution!

I would set myself on fire for Aaron Purr if he asked. And he probably would, the little asshole.

.

Thanks for sharing! I ended up following it up with the video this creator did on BluScutti and this top comment from BluScutti himself genuinely made me tear up a bit:

"Amazing video scout! Its amazing to be in one of your videos since your videos are what got me into the Tetris scene in the first place."

Just fucking cool
