Medium.com is absolutely rotten for this behaviour.

Not only putting the soft, "sign in to view" but then on some articles requiring a full hard paywall... But you only know this after signing in.

I'm not entirely against charging for well written articles; good writers deserve compensation, but don't tease me, make me jump through a hoop only to find there's another much higher hoop sitting beyond it.

Worked in bars as a supervisor for 3 years, almost everytime I decided to cut a patron off (usually for being too drunk, or for being an arsehole) I would be met with "you can't do that, it's illegal, you HAVE to serve me"

No, I don't. Service is at my discretion, and it wouldn often be unethical for me to continue to provide you with more alcohol, endangering yours and others around you further.

Well, the firm I work for won't ever implement it then. Back to pandas, nothing to see here.

The communication re: the auction of the billet product appears to be a genuine fuck up, and LMG needs to do as much as it can to own that.

The review, and subsequent doubling down on WAN of [sic] "do not buy this product" , however, is down right negligent. Billet are a start up and every review or demo of their product is absolutely critical to their success. To say "we want you to eat" is borderline offensive. LMG must recognise the majority who watch LTT are often casual and will forever just remember "Linus said no" and not question it further.

While I commend the attitude of not being drawn into an online pissing contest with GN, I think the least they could do is remove the video, retest and evaluate, and offer a sincere apology for the previous efforts.

Everything else is a QC issue. Do less with more, and you won't have to spend so much time putting out very public fires such as this.

I have a friend who keeps defending him, often deflecting to attack the people writing the article (i.e. BBC) and then ranting about Epstein Island and the Clinton's etc....

Yet here we have a man who has videos of himself talking about trafficking, coercion and abuse of women - and more evidence of them openly discussing it like a grooming gang, yet my friend continues to say words to the effect of "it's the elites trying to take him down for telling the truth"

Honestly, I just do not get it, and would appreciate anyones advice who has maybe faced similar issues how to get through to them.

I was on the fence about getting a ZenFone. But now, with knowledge there will likely be reduced updates or development, I'm swayed away and back to pixel.

Rip another phone manufacturer trying to do something to differentiate itself in a crowded market.

In a modern internet context:

Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt.

Often used in crypto circles when a shitty project is being accused of being a rug pull. The scammer may say "it's just FUD, ignore it".

On 'the street', if I called someone a fud, it is calling them an idiot.

Reads headline: "oooo interesting"

It's a Motorola: "ah, shit"

Any prebuilt computer released in the last two years has secureboot and automatic bitlocker encryption with keys in the Microsoft account, meaning that this antivirus removal USB drive wouldn't even boot, and if it could, it couldn't access any file on the computer

I was disappointed this issue was not addressed at all during its review. The type of person this product is aimed at wouldn't have a clue this was potentially the case.

As Linus said, think of it like watching a Top Gear/VIN Wiki video about a super car. I just want to see it at its best, and going fast.

Yeah, talk about some downsides but recognise this isn't a product for everyone. His attitude of "don't buy it at all" was really bad faith.

Might pay to read up on the luddites.

They protested against manufacturers who used machines in "a fraudulent and deceitful manner" to replace the skilled labour of workers and drive down wages by producing inferior goods.

I loved sharing this with my senior who hadn't seen it before, and it gave our small team a Ggod chuckle one afternoon. Thanks for your creation.

With the absence of a crystal ball, but with excellent inner knowledge, what future standards could you see being implemented in the next 10 years for internet?

Story mode / Infinite lives / invincibility modes.

Difficulty should not be a barrier for entry. I like how Insomniac games like Ratchet and Clank, and to a lesser extent Spiderman, offer a really easy mode for those who just want to blast away or swing around New York.

Probs low hanging fruit for this thread, but vinyl collecting.

Started around 2011 by going to charity shops and second hand stores to find bargains. I used to be able to spend £10 a week and get 3/4 new (to me) records. Some were great ,some were trash, but that was the fun!

Then I started getting specific records, building towards band discographies... next thing I know, I'm dropping £25 per record for two bootleg records that were definitely not worth the price. Was a watershed moment and one that made me take a step back.

Ticked over for a year or two, next thing I know vinyl records are now in Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's. Every new release comes on vinyl, and they're now £25+. Charity shops are now just full of junk vinyl, and all the second hand stores now charge £25+ because their pressings are "original"... all the fun is now gone.

Eternity is on f-droid, if you add the izzydroid repo.

The hill I'm prepared to die on on is that I think an elephant is the only mammal that could pull off wearing two pairs of cargo shorts at once.

Is that why we are being told to "fear" AI? Because it can't be easily monitised by those who worry about such things.

If you're on iOS 14 or higher, you can natively use a service that blocks ads via Encrypted DNS.

Sign up for NextDNS and create an adblocking profile. Then follow the set up instructions.

Will there no longer be an announcement at The Ritz: Bathroom and Kitchen fitters inc. ?

The story of "playing with grenades while drunk and high on cocaine" was so plausible too.

I have no idea. But my gripe is the lack of a clear notice that "this is a paid article and you must be paid member to view it", it just says words to the effect "sign in to view".

I'm appealing to help on the internet, I'm pretty much exhausted and this is my last gasp to find a way to help him tbh.

There's a belief that (I'm going to heavily paraphrase/over simplify here) when you're born, there are two versions of you ... The 'corporation', and the 'real' you.

Any document issued by the government i.e. birth certificates, social security etc is against the corporate version of you. And as a 'real' person, you are not part of a system you didn't consent to.

So when you get pulled over for speeding, it was your real self who was driving travelling, not the corporation, and only the corporate self is beholden to the law. This same idea is applied to taxes...

I've been watching the 9 on eBay, and it was tempting.... but for the same price I could get a pixel 7a. The only loss would be the headphone jack, which I have finally come to terms with, I think!

Feel you with Attack on Titan - goes into some weird places and I lost interest.

Have you tried Initial D? Old school 90's early 2000's teen comedy drama about street racing. It's really funny and touching at the right moments.

Pretty damning, when it's the government's own electoral commission making these admissions.

Sony, Asus, Nothing, Pixel....

I'm not doubting the hardware, but software is a real issue. Carriers are now pushing 36 month plans... what good is that if your device is basically out of date after 18 months.

Infinity for Reddit still works. Once it stops, Reddit will become a site I may only visit on my desktop, which is not a common event.

Did you read the name of the sub before you replied?

With this in mind, I've read anecdotes that say you should have a monitor that ideally has double the refresh rate as the FPS of the game you're playing. The thought being, I suppose, that as the monitor is refreshing more frequently, it will more likely catch a frame.

I can't find where I read/watched this, but if anyone has any input or tests to this 3ffect I'd be interested to see it again.
