True, holy shit if they wouldn't completely bomb you with ads everywhere it might change something, but I accidentally used the official app on my smartphone and I can't even make out content between the ads in the UI.

Not to speak of the 50s ads for a 20s video, nah won't ever go back to the official experience.

It reminds me back when ad blockers came around, nobody cared for the one banner or some pictures on the site, but they ripped your arm out and cried when there were finally solutions for solving that harassment.

If we had actual IT giants in Europe, this would look very different.

I've seen how the car industry in Germany only got a slap on the wrist because of Dieselgate and even got the chance to send out advertisement payed by the government.

I feel like the only reason stuff like this gets pushed so hard is because we try to slow down the current IT giants until we get our shit together.

I'm glad that we do it, but i wouldn't say we are better than anyone else.

What do you mean, Microsoft support still needs it: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/microsoft-support-cracks-windows-for-customer-after-activation-fails/

Wouldn't be surprised if they made the pull request themself.

For about 5€ a month you can free yourself from these risks

It's not only interests of the chinese government, they HAVE to oblige legally if they are asked to. So even if the company has the best intentions, the government overrules.

And don't make that a chinese bad guy argument, as if western companies aren't doing the same, they just don't do that officially, which one is shadier is yours to decide.

All you can do as a company or anyone is to stop harvesting data and don't plant blackboxes/backdoors in customers systems

A VPN from someone i've heard for the first time?

Count me in!!

The problem isn't that there is malware on the site, it's linked to admins as distributors.

Rockstar patented NPC showing natural behavior, eg. when feeling cold or hot

https://www.dsogaming.com/news/new-patent-filed-by-rockstar-may-hint-at-significant-gta-6-npc-ai-traversal-improvements/

No wonder that advancements of immersion in games are moving so slow compared to graphics when these dipshit companies patent every tiny thing.

That's not innovation

Good, these companies hoard data for far too long

"Google parent firm Alphabet employed 182,381 employees as of September 30th, 2023, so roughly a thousand job cuts would only be around half a percent of the company’s total."

This is just a normal optimization, and holy fuck are they huge.

During the pandemic everyone was over-hiring, it doesn't exactly tell you what you've wrote, but you are right as a whole.

That's how you get successful, do something others don't

You poor soul, do you think they give one single fuck?

Blizzard is tone deaf, all they look at is the moneyflow

what the fuck

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/

These are only the official ones which are up to par with the quality assurance of LOS, there are countless of unofficial builds for almost any phone.

For example, Pocophone F1, my first Xiaomi phone still gets security and feature updates:

https://download.lineageos.org/devices/beryllium/builds

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/beryllium/

It's now 5 years old, that's Apple kind of support for an €350 Android device.

Vote with your wallet and only buy phones on the device list of LOS.

Because there is enough room for both and competition is good, in case Nextcloud goes south

Not to mention, Eyeo thought it was a good idea to replace ads with their own:

https://www.theverge.com/2016/9/13/12890050/adblock-plus-now-sells-ads

Some courageous thinkers over there.

Obviously not impossible, just the best reason for open source software

What a lovely idea, i want to buy a car from him

Activates your Windows installation with a legit activation method, you can even reinstall Windows and have it pre-activated because the activation is on your hardware ID.

It takes a free upgrade routine, but Microsoft stopped free upgrades from Windows 7 to 11, so apparently there is another way now.

For a quick question yes, but if you try to search a solution for a problem it's actual hell, 1000s of BS messages and countless other problems just thrown in one timeline.

You can either search through it for hours or ask the question which was answered 10 times before.

It's as inefficient as it gets

This is like the discussion about how others were copying Apples corners, they are fucking round corners.

There is only so much you can design about an X, so no matter how they would design it, someone made that. You can find countless issues with Musk, but that's just sad and desperate.

My thoughts exactly, Garuda looks out of the box like a install i'm done with and have to redo.

But to each their own, i'm not judging, i was young not too long ago.

As a lifetime sub owner of Plex, they managed to fuck up the complete database 2 times in a month, which takes a day to create on a beast of a machine, because of intro/outro detection.

Fuck Plex

GrapheneOS isn't a benchmark, it's a choice of a random distro essentially, others choose differently.

If you think Chromium is safer or more secure than Firefox, you are mistaking, just take a look at the changelogs of both

There are couple of ways, not buying the content for example. DRM is for paying customers.

Are you speaking about Adguard Home? That's free, if you're talking about their premium DNS, there are free alternatives with ad-blocking.

You can't block Youtube ads via DNS for quite some years now.

The original SteamOS is based on Debian, https://store.steampowered.com/steamos

I guess backporting everything was a pain.

SteamOS 2.0 which is used on Steamdeck (and only available on Steamdeck officially) has nothing to do with that.

Wow essentially like any other company
