Big fan of SBC gaming, open source engine recreations/source ports, gaming in general, alternative operating systems, and all things modding.
Trying to post and comment often in an effort to add to Lemmy's growth.
It comes down to price. You can buy used ThinkPads and replacement parts for them quite cheap a lot of the time.
It's been a while since I've looked at devices from places like System 76 but if I recall correctly they are still over a thousand dollars when a used ThinkPad T440P for example can be found for around two hundred dollars.
How taxes are dealt with in North America. Just send me how much I owe. Don't have me go through a service to figure it out
I miss a lot of the smaller dedicated communities. There were a lot there were essentially mirrored from Reddit but a lot of the userbase disappeared. They are widely federated and posts get votes and comments but there's not a lot of people putting out content.
What I don't miss is the power mods and all the auto mods. They just get tiring.
"Damn girl you shit with that ass?"
Has to be up there
I'm honestly surprised they're still updating Java edition
Dollar stores. A lot of the time they are profiting by selling you a smaller quantity at a slightly lower price. They target low income communities.
I've got a stockpile of them
There's a sign that says you aren't allowed on top of the bus terminal because of me.
There was grass on the roof and I was curious how they got a lawnmower up there.
If you read the title of the article you've read the article. It doesn't really elaborate on it anymore than that sentence.
I also put our phone in a bucket of water. My dad asked me to hold it but I was already carrying a bucket of water so I just put it in the bucket.
Why not edit the title to be a little bit less clickbait?
Maybe something like:
Mark Kelly, A Possible Democratic Veep Pick, Just Changed His Position On Protecting the Right to Organize Act
dbzer0 has the largest piracy community and should meet all your needs
Is this for hammering down fence posts?
I think that's the final nail in the coffin for me.
I would like to mention Eternity is being made as fork from Infinity.
They have a community you can find here:
For more information and updates but their Codeberg page can be found here. You can also find downloads of the latest version there. I think they mentioned trying to get it on F-Droid at some point like Infinity is.
If you are looking for something a little more stable than Manjaro but still Arch based and beginner friendly EndeavorOS is a good option.
Not an answer to your question or suggesting you jump from Fedora just putting it out there.
Flushed out niche communities. There was a real push to create communities a few months ago but it seems like a lot of them haven't been getting attention since the blackouts ended and a sizeable amount of people returned to Reddit.
It's understandable considering there's comparably less people. It would be harder to branch off from a gaming community to specifically a Splinter Cell community for example. That said a lot of the communities that were quickly created and seemingly abandoned aren't super flushed out with things like a logo or general information in a sidebar which might cause people to not post there to begin with.
I feel like these communities have a real decent chance especially if they are created in larger instances due to how many people sort by all/new on Lemmy compared to Reddit.
Maybe how easy it was to find posts on Reddit using a search engine? Like Googling "How to care for cast iron pans Reddit"
I don't think I'll miss the avatars, awards, the Redditisms, how much weight people put into upvotes, the sorting algorithms, and so on.
Kind of related but one thing I like I do on occasion is check out various enthusiasts subreddits for niche things and see what the community go to is. Like AA batteries and how Eneloop batteries are the gold standard.
Fun way to kill an hour and find some neat stuff.
The Cookie Monster is Joe Biden's new economic advisor.
Yeah it's weird how privacy and piracy have blended together over the years.
With some games you need to pirate them if you don't want a Russian nesting doll of launchers and accounts that are able to leak your information and fill your computer with bloat.
I do find the argument interesting some YouTubers try to make about ad blockers being a form of piracy.
Perhaps?
It really is annoying how many alt right dog whistles there are
I feel like there's been a trend of people switching from alcohol to cannabis as its become more widely accepted but I know a lot of people who have ended up taking it to excess as well. I feel like the idea of being addicted to it still really doesn't come up often and looking back that might be viewed as problematic.
I'm not against people using it or anything but I do feel bad for the people who have gotten to the point where they need to smoke to feel like themselves.
I thought cats were female and dogs were male. Can you tell I didn't have pets growing up?
But when heavy-handed DRM's and corporate shovelware and services that actively remove content I pay for makes it a shit experience. I'm gonna just torrent that shit
The annoying hurdles are what get me. I've cracked a lot of the games that I own because I hate forced updates, going through an additional client, or being asked to sign in for another service that I won't use.
I'm surprised they didn't see this coming. A lot of people had high expectations because of the impact the first game had and if it wasn't better in every way there was bound to be some negative feedback.
I know. I've seen a lot of videos on the differences between Java and Bedrock, how Bedrock came to be, modding on Java like Feed The Beast, and multiplayer servers like 2BT2 (for those that don't know FitMC has some good vidoes on 2B2T; it's a neat rabbit hole to go down if you want to kill sometime).
What I am saying is I am surprised that Microsoft is still updating Java when there's so much money to be made nickle and diming players in Bedrock edition. Like paying for skins for example. It would definitely piss off a lot of the player base but I don't know if it would cause them to lose money in the long run. I imagine a lot of casual players are content using Bedrock and unaware of why Java is important.
One entry, from November 11, talked about how some of the artists at Rockstar wanted to make a zombie survival game after finishing Vice City. The working title was “Z,” which Vermeij explains was “pronounced Zed, not Zee.” It was intended to use Vice City’s code, set on a “windswept foggy Scottish island,” where players would be under constant attack from the undead. The main focus for players would be acquiring fuel for vehicles, but after just a month of work, apparently the team just found it too depressing. They got to work on San Andreas instead.
Glad the article included some of the things they mentioned in their blog. It's interesting to read.
I wonder if something they said is still deep in Rockstar's catalogue of things they want to try and that's why they shot it down
Yeah it kind of feels like they wanted to cram in a lot of cultural references that happened the last couple years to make up for lost time
A useful word for situations like this is defenestrate. It means to throw a person or thing out of a window.
It's pretty much as powerful as the gaming PC I made several years ago and is a decent price. I'd be happy to recommend it to someone even not taking into account how versatile it is
I really don't know what could kill Reddit at this point. It's so different now with Reddit's new UI, the awards, blocking VPN connections, and Reddit licensing user content for AI training. We saw how things went with the blackout and how so many people caved instantly and were willing to fill the roles of the people that left once subreddits were forced back open.
Maybe blocking NSFW content or requiring users to verify their age?
I feel like it's just more of that corporate fence sitting. It's just extra strange and off putting when it's coming an individual versus your average soulless company.
Are you telling me all the podcasters I listen to didn't naturally have the same experience with HelloFresh?
Probably either research chemicals or jailbreaking tech.
As for the former I fell down a rabbit hole reading about research chemicals on some subreddit and hearing people's reports.
Jailbreaking doesn't feel as illegal, I'm not in Japan, but it makes me feel like a badass early 2000s hacker helping my friends with their 3DSs and PS3s and seeing their reactions.
Probably when they do something drastic like ban NSFW content or require age verification. Even then something will need to replace Reddit like Reddit replaced Digg. I am not sure if it will be Lemmy necessarily even though it's probably the smoothest transition.
"They're [students] laying down with blankets over them, their eyes are closed. It's very dark in there. I just had candles and little tea lights lit the whole room, and I was just walking around playing my drum. I had a nice floaty top on with large bell sleeves," she said.
"A couple with some dogs just came up to the window and were having a look in, but they walked off really quickly and I didn't think anything of it."
Some real Karen energy there.
Kind of an evolution of homophobia
Definitely someone's kink
That's nice of them to walk it back. Definitely not something you'd see Reddit do
