It was time to ditch Evernote YEARS ago. Obsidian is basically the best alternative.

My top vote as the YouTuber who looks the least like his actual handle implies.

Yes, try czkawka- weird Polish name but pretty good app.

Thinkpad spontaneously rebooting has some part in the blame here too, no? I mean that’s why this whole fiasco happened..

That people are paying $3500 for a pair of goggles.

This is the reason that all of mine are hardwired (literally) through the roof. Obviously more timeconsuming to do but the signal is way more responsive than wifi (esp. when my wifi bandwidth drops due to giant periodic cloud backups or multi-gigabyte PS5 update file downloads) and I wanted to make sure that all of the video is shunted to cloud and local secure storage in whatever seconds it might take for an attacker to physically disable the camera. Dozen cables down and into my router and switch in the mancave but it is what it is.

Followed my then-girlfriend, now-wife on a wing and a prayer from Australia to the US over 20 years ago. Still living in the US and I haven’t caught a bullet yet \o/

StandardNotes (I compared it to SimpleNote when I tested it months ago):

  • Doesn't support markdown without $ - simplenote does
  • Doesn't support checkboxes without $ - simplenote does
  • Doesn't even allow rich text without paying
  • $119/year subscription
  • Simplenote syncs faster

It calls itself FOSS but really, most of the important functionality is paid-only.

It's completely local if you want, and you absolutely don't need to pay money for syncing. The entire app is absolutely free and fully functional. If you want free syncing you can either use iCloud, or else the RemotelySave plugin with something like Syncthing or Duplicati.

Did Glassdoor somehow force users to use their real names on the site?

Shove-it, an ancient Windows utility by Phord Software that shoves any half-offscreen windows back onto the monitor so that you can get to all the gadgets. Phenomenally useful. First thing I install on any new build.

Drinking hot drinks, like flavored coffee or hot milk with Milo or ovaltine or Dandy Blend. Morning, afternoon and night. I have to have a hot drink before bed. Have to have a hot coffee when working at the pc in the late morning or afternoon. Only really started maybe a year ago and I’m honestly not sure why.

Is there a reminder/alert system for due or soon-to-be-due tasks?

My new insult.

Just turn this option off in the Editor settings. https://i.imgur.com/YsEM2JI.jpg

I do, but it’s because my wife works from home and spends three quarters of the day with the chick cave door closed doing teams meetings. Generally my msgs will be “want brunch/coffee/pastries?” etc.

I rewatch shows regularly. Right now I’m watching The Lost Room, Glitch (Australian), The Sandman and Penny Dreadful again. And a Korean food series on Netflix called “A Nation Of Broth”, because I love Korean food.

Nine Parchments and Magicka 2.

Edit: also, the Trine games. And on PlayStation we enjoyed Diablo III and Alienation, both of those are three player as well.

+1 for Plex. Basically perfect and so much more polished than JF (which I tried on three separate occasions to force myself to like).

Newegg, Amazon, BestBuy. Every so often one or the other will come out with a great price on a component. I keep my ear to the ground on Slickdeals and /r/buildapcsales and cherry pick anything that sounds good.

So, a cock-headed ball python eh..

It’s a fairly normal start, and “must not force you to use an account” wasn’t listed in your set of requirements. The account is because the app supports completely free syncing across multiple mobile and desktop platforms. Just use any throwaway google account or create a new one just for the purpose. No subscription and it is FOSS.

Weird to not see (at the time I’m writing this) any mentions of “todoist” which people on forums have loved for ages. I’m not a fan at all so I’m glad to finally not see it as frequently. My preference for work, where I have multiple categories and statuses (including a “done and waiting for the other person to confirm” status) is Trello with some automations. For home, just simple reliable entry on phone and desktop, is Ticktick. I particularly love the natural date parsing built into Ticktick (can also be done in Trello with an automation), very useful for super fast task entry and due date/time scheduling.

When I make coffee in the morning I put in one packet of pink sweetener, then half sugarfree liquid creamer and half milk then microwave it for 30 seconds to bring it back up to temp. And sometimes a splash of a Torani flavor for absolutely no reason. Could I just use a little more creamer instead of the sweetener? Sure. Could I use even more creamer and NO milk? Sure, I guess. I just enjoy mad scientisting my coffee. Wife just sighs and gets out of my way in the kitchen.

Fiery Feeds on iOS.

I actually had a lot of fun a couple years ago deploying PiHole on one of my RaspberryPi’s and routing all my household machines through it. It worked great UNTIL.. my kid was turning in empty homework on Google Classroom and his teachers were getting up him about it. We chastised him thinking it was his fault until I finally discovered that Pihole was messing up his uploads to GC and literally causing this problem. I got super angry with it and walked away without even trying to troubleshoot. Had to profusely apologise not only to his teachers but to him.

He reminds me of Translucent.
