His birth is closer to Lincoln's assassination and the abolition of serfdom in Russia than to 2023.

If you want to minimize plant death, going vegan is still the right move.

Most of the crops we grow go to feeding animals that people eat.

Right? I would have guessed closer to 15.

Did you not read the post?

In my experience, Immich is way better for Photos.

I'd disagree about that being the worst case scenario.

When I used to use Arch and asked a question on the Arch forum, they removed my post because they saw I was using Pamac so they assumed I was actually on Manjaro. They didn't ask me if I'm using Manjaro or anything, they just assumed I was and removed it.

I reposted the question and clarified that I was using Arch, but that got removed again due to it being a duplicate of a removed question.

I made a meta post about what I should be doing in order to not get my posts removed and that got removed as well, though I don't remember the reason they gave for that.

That was the last time I posted on the Arch forum and shortly after, I switched to Void Linux.

Vegans don't eat animals for the sake of the animals, because they believe killing them unnecessarily is morally wrong.

Saying you're only going to eat animals once a day is like saying you're going to halve the amount of violent crimes you commit and expecting praise for it.

It's an anonymous forum aimed towards tech workers.

They verify your work email to confirm you work where you claim.

It's much more related to people changing their activity level as they get older.

If you're still as active in your 40s as you were in your 20s, you'll burn basically as many calories.

The upside seems pretty clear? It's a free 55" TV. A lot of people won't care that it's not as good as other TVs.

power goes out 12 times a week, water's on for only 5 hours a week, internet drops out every 2 hours, (only alternate option is musky),

I visited for 2 months the only one of these I experienced was the internet going out once.

no cops, no fire dept, no schools

That's just not true at all.

trash is just piled up with no plan whatsoever,

I'm from NYC, so I guess I'm just used to trash.

no public transit

That's true, but apartments in the middle of the city are so cheap that most things were within walking distance for me.

more superfund sites per sq mile than any state,

I've never looked at this when deciding where to live, but I just looked it up and there are way more within 50 miles of me than there are in all of Puerto Rico.

more taxes than in the USA

Still way cheaper cost of living than where I live.

hurricanes, earthquakes and narcos.

Those are the only things you mentioned that are an actual concern to me. Since I work remotely, I'd have the luxury of leaving temporary if there was a massive natural disaster.

Is this an ad for the Boston MFA?

I’ve hit the limit for what I can chuck into retirement funds so I’m not sure what I’ll do when the money number gets too big.

Invest into non retirement accounts. When you have 30x your yearly expenses invested, you can safely retire.

I use a VPS. They don't charge based on CPU utilization so I run Folding@Home on it.

This might sound like an ad, but I always keep Aquaphor in my bag. I go rock climbing which gives me really dry hands and Aquaphor helps with that so much

Someone who exclusively ate meat for some reason who moved to chicken would have a greater impact than someone who exclusively ate chicken and went vegan.

But that first person could have an even bigger environmental impact by becoming Vegan instead of only eating chicken.

Not OP, but I'd assume this

Firefox's app puts me at "∞". I think that's what they put if you're above 100.

The fact that they bought AlienBlue, worked on it for 10 years, and made it so much worse is crazy.

If one of the two sessions is cardio, then it's not too bad. But yeah, lifting weights twice a day would be extremely difficult to recover from.

Immich is pretty great. I used to use Nextcloud, but it isn't nearly as good for photos.

Pretty sure that's not it. People are saying removed as a joke. It's a filter for slurs, not swears.

I've been thinking of Puerto Rico.

The article is click bait, I agree. I'm referring to OP's post, though. Not the entire article.

Mostly all the natural beauty and the low cost of living.

I visited for a few months and loved it.

The Harlem Globetrotters episode is my favorite by far

can see all of the posts of any instance it's federated with.

Definitely not all in my experience.

My issue has been that I have too many niche hobbies that either don't have communities on Lemmy/Kbin, or have very small, inactive communities.

Don't forget it

Do you want the files to be automatically shared? Like there's a folder on both your computers that's synced

If so, syncthing is the way to go.

I don't think fast charging is underrated generally

Maybe it was just me underrating it.

that fast charging will reduce your battery life more than slow charging,

That's true, though I think Oneplus does a good job of keeping the battery from heating up. That and the fact that I basically never charge up to 100% any more has resulted in my battery health dropping to 98% after 6 months of use.

Do Data Scientists count? I run Bedrock Linux with Hyprland WM and Alacritty as my terminal manager.

I use Jupyter Labs for almost everything. Then Emacs for anything else. I don't like the default config at all, and I'm not that well versed in elisp, so I use Doom Emacs.

Currently playing Pokémon Luminescent Platinum on Linux.

That's a good one. I just switched from Gitlab to Gitea.

Revanced

I've been using both lemmy.world and beehaw.org from kbin.social. From what I can tell, I can see most posts/comments, though not immediately after they are posted on their original instances. And they can see my posts/comments.

I get where you're coming from. My Oneplus charger is extremely slow when used with my Steam deck.

Does any phone with USB PD charge at 80+ watts though?

Changing to a different main instance requires a new account.

My issue has been that you can't see every post from another instance. For example, I can only see 200 out of the 2k posts on !linux@lemmy.ml when viewing it from Lemmy.world.

Kbin is up from 2k users last week to 40k users.

I think it was either Mario Party on the GameCube or Crash Bandicoot on the PS2. The first one I remember well would have to be Pokémon Firered in the GBA SP.
