Streaming companies are lucky that not more people know about Stremio + Torrentio + Real Debrid. That combination is a game changer and allowed me to get rid of all streaming services.

This is a guide that someone on Reddit wrote and it helped me a lot. It looks complicated with the first glance, but when you do the steps it takes less than 15 minutes. I changed the order of the original slightly and added a few infos to make it easier:

Go to https://www.stremio.com/ Download the relevant client for your platform (Windows/Mac/Linux) Open Stremio and sign up with email or facebook

Real Debird

Go to https://real-debrid.com/ Sign up Go to Premium Offers ($3 for one month, $16 for 6 months) Choose a package and subscribe

Torrentio

Go to https://torrentio.strem.fun/configure Choose your options for providers, quality, foreign language etc You can now choose to install Torrentio without a Debid Provider. Personally I use Real Debrid to connect directly to a server vs having my IP shared in peer to peer and to speed up performance. Torrentio has a slot for a possible API key (the Real Debrid key) To install with Real Debrid follow the next steps: Go to the API key with this link: https://real-debrid.com/apitoken Copy the API Key and go back to Torrentio and paste it under RealDebird API Key Install

Check the addon installed correctly Click the puzzle piece up on the top right that says 'Show All Addons' Click My Addons and scroll until you see Torrentio Test stream a movie or TV show Go to Discover Click on a Movie or TV show and click 'Show' You should now see [RB+] Torrentio - Quality Enjoy streaming"

Of course these performance issues are a bit annoying, but I gotta say that I love these updates and explanations here. Great communication, keep it up, please!

And when Spez got called out for it, he wasn't even man enough to apologize. If this lying weasel says the sun is shining, I take my umbrella out.

If somethings takes less than 5 minutes to do, do it right away. Don't waste time thinking about when to do it, reminding yourself the whole time, risk forgetting about it, don't procrastinate about it. Do it right away. You get so much more stuff done and are way less stressed.

Of course the right wing prepper nutjob goes full authoritian on this and just replace people who are against his policies. People can't move over from Reddit soon enough.

I have witnessed these bad responses on different soccer-related threads as well. They all behave like junkies who really need their fix of reddit desperately that they get toxic against those who protest and dare to take their precious fix away. A bunch of "no one cares, trust me bro"-responses, mods get attacked for having too much power. It's sad really how addicted they are to reddit. I personally hope most, if not all the subs that went dark will do so indefinitely. Might be good for the mental health of those who are dramatically addicted as well.

I think in the end the most important things will be a good UI, a clean and inviting look, maybe easy-to-understand guides and of course lots of great content. As soon as all of this exists, then the mainstream will have it easier to use Lemmy. An easy, flawless experience goes a long way and taking away any obstacle to get active here will help on the long run.

Yeah, it's embarrassing how shortsighted these people are. Reddit will be an absolute mess riddled with ads in the near future, especially when they force mobile browser users into the app and I would not put it past Spez to disallow adblockers being used on their website as well. Then you get spammed with ads unless you buy Reddit premium, which surely will rise in price as well. And then it will be too late to protest. So silly to not see the direction that reddit is taking and to complain about protests now.

Yeah, this is one of the reasons why I hope we get a filter for specific words in posts soon. It feels like every time I open Lemmy I see several posts about Reddit. People are obsessed as if Reddit is an ex girlfriend they just can't get out of their mind.

What could help fighting the impression you have is subscribing to many communities that are interesting to you. Then turn your settings on "subscribed-new". That should give you plenty of new content. If you need more, check "local-new" and if that also is not enough take "all-new". This way you will have so much content that it will be like a waterfall and you are right under it.

It's by Meta, that is all I need to know to stay away from it.

Can we not make everything about Reddit please? It's a website, not your ex. Move on.

What I do is that I usually have my "frontpage" on subscribed-new. This way there is often new content that I find interesting. If I still want more, I check on "local" or "all" also on new and then I can enjoy standing under the waterfall of content. It's fun going about it this way.

You can promote it all you want on reddit, just always be polite and not obnoxious in any way or form. Not saying that you personally would be, but speaking in general terms too much energy into convincing people to come here might have a negative effect on other people's motivation.

Yeah same, I got it on my Firestick and it works like a charme! Got my vpn on the Firestick active as well and I could not be happier!

The easiest would probably getting a FireStick and just putting stremio as an app there. So your girlfriend can always go to the same place and find all of her shows/movies in great quality in one spot.

I think it depends which one you take, how open they are for external software. But with Firesticks or cubes you can do 100%. With others it might be worth googling beforehand, if Stremio can be installed on that specific tv box you choose. On those boxes you just need Stremio as an app. The app on your box then syncs with the settings and addons you have in the desktop version, so no hassle.

Sadly not yet, but it would help a lot. If someone is annoyed with all the Reddit-related posts, one could easily filter them out everywhere. So I hope this feature will come soon!

So far this isn't possible, if I am not mistaken, but it surely might be a useful tool for customising the experience here for the future.

In the end it probably also comes down to two things: personal preference of design/look and how active the community is on each plattform. I for example stopped using kbin cause here are far more users and I like the look and feel of Lemmy more. Also there are a few good apps to help me completely stay off reddit.

I will miss /reddevils cause it's fun to see fans of your club interact on a daily basis. Same goes probably for all the wholesome subs, all the cute dog-content cause it was a good feeling to have positive outlets to come to and just have a few "aww"-moments.

• Faster posting comments, so that when you answer a post it doesn't take so much time for your comment to get posted
• A great app like Apollo or any other of the well-liked third party apps

it just looks like you are not subscribed, but you actually are already. What helped for me to get rid of this bug was to just try unsubscribing and subscribing a couple of days later.

Tried "Memmy" before and right now I like Thunder a bit more. The UI looks cleaner to me, it works well. Good job, I have put it on my phone where I used to have Apollo.
