This is a moment when I'd love to use the "you love to see it" meme comment, but it's more like... "People are fleeing the burning building, and running across the street to an identical building that is infested with rats and cockroaches!"

Yeah, I'm perfectly fine with this decision. And if I want to see content from and interact on those instances, I can (and have already) create accounts on those instances. No harm no foul.

You have to be ok with believing that you're not annoying others when talking about yourself and asking about them. And you have to do it in a not-creepy way. I haven't quite figured it out yet.

I’m sure there’s a place where she could still work… like maybe the 404 page or the maintenance page?

I guess I just don't typically give people the benefit of the doubt, especially online. I need to work on that.

This Apollo-like webapp is new too, and I like it quite a bit: https://wefwef.app

Ahh, so they're the new 9gag?

Wholesome (unless Betterment and Praxis covers that?)

Same here. I've been a fly on the wall seeing the development of mlem progressing super fast, and we (I'm tangentially involved) are going to be releasing a big update soon that improves the GUI tremendously. You can go over to !mlemapp@lemmy.ml (or https://lemmy.world/c/mlemapp@lemmy.ml) to see what we're up to and to get the link to join the beta through TestFlight.

Ok, hear me out - what if both Spez and Elon are secretly fans of the fediverse, and are taking over the major social media sites and ruining them so that more people start using the fediverse?? What if that's been the plan all along???

Just so everyone remembers: Betsy DeVos -

  • Main goal while in office was to eradicate public schools altogether

  • In a 1997 op-ed, defended unlimited donations of "soft money" in political spending. DeVos compared government limits to Big Brother of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four.

  • Betsy was a founding board member of the James Madison Center for Free Speech which the DeVos family funded and whose "sole goal was to end all legal restrictions on money in politics."

  • "My family is the largest single contributor of soft money to the national Republican Party. I have decided to stop taking offense at the suggestion that we are buying influence," she wrote. "Now I simply concede the point. They are right."

  • Married to former Amway CEO Dick DeVos. Amway is an American multi-level marketing (MLM) scheme that sells health, beauty, and home care products. In 2012, Forbes magazine listed his father as the No. 351 richest person in the world, with a net worth of approximately US$5.4 billion.

  • Mackinac Public Policy Center, which had played a major role in the passage of right-to-work (anti-union legislation) in Michigan, was funded mainly by the Charles G. Koch Foundation and the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation.

I guess I'm just the weird guy who appreciates acknowledgment because without it I feel like I'm being ignored.

AMA

So, the creators of Lemmy itself (and it's "home" instance lemmy.ml) are Marxist/Leninists (otherwise known as "tankies").

However, they have been smart enough to contain the most virulent tankie bullshit over in LemmyGrad.ml, which most big instances have specifically disconnected themselves from.

They also seem to be pretty hands-off in terms of censorship/banning/belittling "libs" on lemmy.ml and have kept it pretty open. For instance, I created a LeftistInfighting community and have been allowed to express anarchist views there. (I created it because I was immediately banned from LemmyGrad, which had its own LeftistInfighting community that I had the audacity to engage in and link to wikipedia in a comment)

Hahaha!

On a separate note, it is very interesting that the creator of Lemmy.world is non-responsive. That is concerning, seeing as how his instance is one of the biggest.

Sounds gross to me.

Same!

Here's my foolproof method of not having any issue with the FBI: Don't do illegal stuff.

I had never heard of Waterfox before seeing this post. I went and checked it out. Basically, their "thing" seems to be that they have Firefox's privacy settings automatically defaulted to stronger settings, yet still mild enough for normal web browsing (it won't break as many websites as when you have Firefox fired up on all privacy cylinders, I guess?).

They also have incognito tabs instead of just incognito windows.

Other than that, I don't see any differences in the GUI for ease of use.

Well, it was pretty big news that Beehaw was defederating from them, and it doesn't take a lot of effort to reply real quick to someone reaching out to you from Beehaw. You could just say "thanks, let's talk about this when I'm not so busy" but to just ignore it seems weird to me.

Holy crap. I really hope this guy sues the pants off of them.

It’s not a permanent defederation, and it’s only with those two instances. There are still hundreds of other instances that they are still federated with.

Of course it does. This isn’t new.

Also, the Intercept (Greenwald in particular), is a mouthpiece for the Kremlin, so take everything with a grain of salt.

Hello new here, I'm dad!

Of ducking course. And you know what that means? Peoples’ nsfw chats are going to be used for blackmail.

Yes, there are lots of communities already in the fediverse for that kind of content - mostly ChatGPT and also image-generation themed ones. Would this be general purpose? Or specific to art/image generation or automation or what?

I'm definitely going to take the family to see Elemental next week. I'm also waiting for a couple other folks to come back from vacation to go see The Flash next week also. From everything I've read, The Flash is actually great. And Elemental is getting 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

I also really want to see Asteroid City.

I would say that he did demonstrate that he was insane, and therefore should be confined to a mental health institution.

This guy, given his behavior, should absolutely be in a facility where he can't do any harm.

However - I have known a few people with Tourette's over the years, and can absolutely say that mental state and abilities should play a factor in whether or not something that's done would violate the law.

Yelling "fire" in a crowded theater may not be something someone with tourette's can control. If that causes a stampede and people get trampled, that's not their fault, in my opinion.

Joke’s on you… it never had a soul!

The Element app for it works pretty well. There are some edges to smooth, but it functions.

No nitpicks other than this small typo:

We are really do try to make this space as welcoming as possible

I came here for an argument, not a contradiction!
