"arguing that it has harmed men and even destroyed the fabric of society."

Ahh yes, the injustice of the millennium. Abusive, asshole men can't keep their wives against their will...

I'm almost always a lurker but I have abandoned Reddit on principal and come here. I've replaced the infinity app on my homescreen with Beehaw and It gives me my reddit fix. I'm more likely to comment here too, since It doesn't feel pointless due to the size of most subreddits. I've been leery of Reddit for a long time with ownership changes, the crap websites and apps, and their lack of reaction to toxic and hate riddled subs. This place is a welcome change.

I've sunk over a dozen hours into it so far. It's a really enjoyable game, however it is truly in early access stage and the developer has made no illusions about that. It's playable, and largely bug free, but there's not a lot of depth available since many of the features are still in progress. Up to the release of the game, it's been developed by 1 person and he's hiring some additional staff but that all takes time to see fruition.

The graphics are beautiful, and the game has a great atmosphere. I love watching the buildings being constructed. The mechanics in the game work well, but there's a lot of buildings, resources, and advanced stages that need tweaking/implementing.

If you like what you see in the videos, and are OK with an actual early access game, knowing that features and improvements will be coming slowly, then id suggest getting it now. Otherwise, wait for the official release.

Hello! I lurk too much, but I'll echo t3rmit3. This is a nice, quieter space. I check Beehaw daily but I don't find myself doomscrolling like I used to on reddit. It's just nice to pop in once a while, check if there's anything new, and get on with life.

That said, I should start posting some of my own findings!

If you haven't checked out Pop!_OS I'd recommend giving it a try. While I'm using a system76 laptop so they guarantee hardware compatibility, it's been one of the smoothest and most functional DE/guis I've used. Ive never had to resort to a command line* and aaalllmost everything you'd expect to find exists in the gui.

*caveat. Except for some really esoteric problems, which are usually a result of my own tinerking

Radish is super common in Southern California at Mexican places. They're often served raw and pickled. They work surprisingly well with all the flavors. Thanks for backing me up!

Now go make some reverse seared steak nachos 😁

Every news article is about their Sriracha which I'm honestly not in love with. What I am sad about is there's also a shortage of sambal oelek cause theirs is amazing. I haven't found a good replacement 😭

Balsamic drizzle on some pesto pizza, now that sound a like a winner,

Lodge's enameled cast iron pots are great. The enamel is made in China, but surprisingly so are some staub and Le creusets.

I really like this, and I will probably use it, but I hate clickbate thumbnails with a passion and avoid them as much as I can.

Cool article! Fungi are rad!

Valheim at msrp. So. Many. Hours. Such a fantastic game.

I'm about the same. Last switch was yahoo to Gmail and now I'm in the process of switching from Gmail to Proton Mail. The most difficult part was the mental switch - which email you start giving out when you sign up. Second was migrating services. I made it a point for a while each time I logged into something knew I would switch the primary email. Its been a long process!

I saw them open for Devin Townsend and Dream Theater a month ago. Their set was phenomenal. I was so excited to see them live!

After years of thinking about getting one, I got a cheap ($12) japanese rice washer. It's amazing! I make a lot more rice than I used to and the washer is so simple and just works so well. It also doubles as a regular colander whenever needed.

Not AbeBooks!?! 😲😭

Have to say the same thing. I really appreciate the hard work the admins and mods are doing and support the decisions they have made.

Thiftbooks is my goto for used but I've always used Abe as a backup. For new I use bookshop.org. So disappointing. I will check out alibris. I know the name, but have never used the service.

I really like this recipe. Pressure Cooker Chile Verde It works great as a meal prep recipe and a lazy night/don't feel like seriously cooking recipe. I have made it with chicken thighs as well with great results.

FF VII and FF VIII where the first two games I played in the series, but i was very young and didn't really know what I was doing. I think we had rented one game, and borrowed another. I really don't remember much about either game, but FF IX came out on ps1, and to this day it's my image of what FF means.

The unique worlds, characters, incredible (at the time and not bad for today) cutscene cinematic. It was the first game I discovered you can outpace yourself and wind up in a battle with a level 60 dragon when you're only level 13.

My brother really got into FF X and i remember watching him play. To this day, I hate Blitzball lol. We both sucked at it.

FF VII-2 for the psp was actually really cool. I don't remember much anymore but the story, gameplay, and music were all great. I would like to try replaying it!

I played a little of XIII and quite a few hours of XV. The games have really changed. Especially XV, some things have improved for the better but there's a lot of tropes and unfortunate stereotypes that could have been...removed.

Edit: Vivi is the best FF character! 😊

I've been using Pop for a few years. I purchased a System76 laptop and decided to give it a spin since it was already installed. There's a lot of I like about, and overall appreciate System76's effort. It's very stable, works flawlessly with Lutris, and the Pop store is a refreshing take on package management. Ive continued using it since at this point I'm just settled in on my OS and don't want to bother setting anything else up lol.

That said, I'm still a much bigger fan of KDE over gnome and gnome derivatives. Pop lacks a lot of UI customization I'd really like to have. There's also only two themes,( and im not particularly interested in learning how to replace is manually).

I am looking forward to trying out their next iteration of the Cosmic DE though. The previews look awesome and it would be a big step forward for Pop.

Fallout 76 🤣

Man that game was so weird and quirky! It was fun, but I also remember having problems exiting the game for some reason lol. It's available from GOG if you ever get the itch.

This looks great and I love Kenji's recipes. I saw the related braised pork arepa... That might be the ticket! 🤤

I'm not totally sure, but i think bookshop does profit sharing regardless if the indie bookstore you designate is actually the seller/shipper. I subscribe to Libro.fm (a drm free audible alternative), and they do the same thing. I can designate an indie store and Libro splits a percentage of the profits with them.

Isometric Theme Park simulators. I'm in love with Parkitect and have fond memories playing Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 as a kid.

I've always been intrigued by some of these 'unusual' grilled items such as cabbage and fruits. Really need to just try it out and see if I'll be pleasantly surprised!

I love grilled veggies in general though. Zucchini and eggplant are my goto.

I don't do much with bash since I primarily do windows admin, but I run into the same issue with powershell.

I have a document in VSCode that I store frequently used commands and any kind of notation/documentation I need to take advantage of it in the future. It's a lot of one or two liners for stuff I know I'm going to forget, like the once a month hyperv cluster update command 😂.

Similarly I've added functions to the powershell local and global profiles on my computer/group policy. (contextually similar to bashrc, bash_profile, that load when launching interactive or non interactive shells, as well as user context) That way i can easily execute repeptive commands without having to think!

Basically, I think we all have the same problem and we've forgotten more than we know lol

I feel this. In some ways it was a relief discovering that I didn't need to keep up with gaming anymore. I would just play what I want want to play, when. But unfortunately I've missed (or even forgotten) about a lot of games I really wanted to play.

I've been at my current job, which is a nonprofit in the social services industry for 10 years. I didn't intentionally choose this industry but j found I'm very comfortable here. It can be a stressful job at times, but what job isn't.

Theres no money in most non profits. However I've never hated my job the biggest downside aside from salary, I don't have the budget, tools, or resources to do what I'd like at times. I also tend to wear every hat in our small IT dept. A distinct difference I've found in the non profits I've worked for is company culture is so much better. Ymmv depending on the industry and size, but people who stick with the company are usually in it for the mission. This tends to weed out the "bad eggs".

I have a hard time stepping away from my job even tho j could easily make $50k more at a for profit company. I'm not sad about my choices even tho I'd certainly like to be paid more. I don't live to work though, and the job doesn't demand it of me so it makes for a decent work/life balance.

God I love that no waste carnitas recipe! It's so good! Those tacos look fabulous! Thanks for sharing the recipe to your additions.

I love making Chilequilas for breakfast when I make that carnitas recipe because I have practically every thing for it already.

I'm so pleased to hear! I have grown to not only appreciate kimchi in the last several years, but the overall variety of banchan itself. Admittedly, I've only ever had like 7 or 8 different kinds, since all of the of the Korean restaurants near me seem to universally be Korean BBQ and serve the same few items. (and I don't get out to Koreantown very much). I love the learning process involved with making things by hand, the results, and quite often the cost savings!

The last time I made Kimchi I used the too-sour and unpleasantly soft old Kimchi to make Kimchi Jiggae and Kimchi Fried Rice. OMG!

When we were purchasing new dell laptops for work a 2 years ago, the change to lpddr was an oversight and we bought models with 8gb of ram. Since these are effectively not upgradeable for us, they're going to age out sooner than they should. We were not very happy...

Luckily we caught this fairly quickly at least, and it only represents a few percent of our total inventory. I hate this anti consumer design.

Most phoronix articles are pretty much straight to the point actually. I haven't regularly visited them in a while but they were a good source for open source news, and might still be.

If you were ever a fan of Rollercoaster Tycoon, check out Parkitect. It's a phenomenal and fun themepark game!

Overtime I have gotten into the habit of eating vegetarian food more often, and the majority of what I cook is vegetarian. My girlfriend sees the lack of a main protein the reason she doesn't feel satisfied with eating a vegetarian meal. Is there a good cookbook or resource that has recipes that can help satisfy that?

Do you know if this is some specific allergy or a general food sensitivity? I am sensitive to fructans, which are a FODMAP in all of those foods, except the green parts of an alium (garlic, scallion, onion, leek). I take an enyzme called Fodzyme which helps me digest fructan rich foods when I can't avoid it.

I am familiar! (as an owner of too many boardgames) I think this could work for a lot of things!

Symphonic metal is a huge and diverse genre! Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, Kamelot are good places to start.

I just picked up The Last Stand: Aftermath, and have been really enjoying playing that game.

A few of my absolute favorites

  • Battletech

  • Witcher 3

  • Parkitect
