Spanish guy, who likes open source software and has just discovered the fediverse (as of 28th of April, 2022). I like video games, and indie and retro music. I’m a student. I’m officially diagnosed with ADHD and ASD since January, 2023.

I just hope that the IPO backfires, or that users suddenly realise how shitty that webpage is and they leave.

Beehaw signed the fedipact. That makes defederation official.

Pages/Apps like Threads make me feel really insecure and insignificant, like my self esteem lost all its value and the only thing I want is to be relevant, to matter to people. And because those things are very difficult unless you're a celebrity, it creates frustration, shattered dreams, more impatience, depression, and a deep feeling of irrelevance. I don't want that in my life, especially being myself a neurodivergent person. My goal is to create relationships, not footmen.

Most of people, if not all, come from Reddit (me included). Depending on how you behaved there, that behaviour can be brought to other places, like Lemmy/Kbin. People have the right to defend their own ideas or opinions, but that doesn't mean they have the right to be rude, argumentative, mean or whatever.

Most of communities/magazines have rules to avoid people be very out of boundaries, like no bigotry or no hate speech, and I'm happy that those rules are enforced and respected. But I think a big mistake of moderators is that they stop writing more rules because bigotry and hate speech are the real evil. What about good manners? What about being nice to each other, even when disagreeing? What about remembering the human? If I were on lemmy.world and you were on lemmy.ml, and I called you stupid because you like oatmeal... is that bigotry? Is that hate speech? What is it? How do you define that behaviour to write a rule not to follow?

Beehaw is great because there is one single general rule to all communities: be(e) nice. Other communities can put other rules to be more specific about what is tolerable and what is not, but being nice is always at the top. I wish other communities/magazines/instances did the same thing.

My brother got COVID, and he infected me as well. Tuesday was a bit shit during the evening, Wednesday was totally shit, the whole day, and today it seems better, but it's still shit nonetheless.

Laughs in Spanish from Spain.

I don't think that tankies are the real issue. Obviously they're an issue, but the real issue is that mods/admins allow them to post and comment as they please, and they don't remove any of their posts and comments, and they even don't ban them for good.

That's one of the reasons I block every community/magazine focused on politics, no matter the country they're related on. Although European politics tend to be more civil than US politics. But I'm tired of too much polarization and lack of civil discourse. Tankies don't help either, and luckily for us, exploding-heads is leaving Lemmy.

I had a competitive service exam last Sunday. I think I passed it, but I don't know yet, until the publication of the provisional official results after some weeks. That's the good news.

The bad news is that I've been bullied by two tankies over two comments I posted on lemmy.ml, and I'm so upset that I don't even know what to do or how to deal with it. Life fucking sucks, really.

Correction to that Russki: his last name doesn't start with a Z. It starts with a З.

I did my part, and I like this kind of feedback. Keep doing a good job!

Anywhere very far away from tankies, please. I'm tired of being harassed by them anywhere I post a comment. They're nazis/fascists in disguise.

I don't know whether you're using other fediverse services, but here is a link that only shows nice servers: https://fedi.garden/

About toxicity and negativity, I'm only on two Mastodon servers, two Lemmy servers (active only here), and on Kbin. Depending on where you're engaging, you can notice more or less of those bad traits, but their levels are sickening to me. Two or three days ago I commented to a reply I was given, stating what I thought about their opinion. And suddenly I was involved in that toxicity and other bad behaviours made by other random people.

Things can be said in another way, in a nicer and good faithful way, but people consider that, because you cannot see the other party in the conversation, they can behave however they want without consequences for them. But there are consequences, and unfortunately they're for the receiver. I'm sure outside internet those behaviours would be more limited, in general.

And this is not something that occurs recently or during the last 5 years. I've been browsing internet since 2006, and it was as bad as it is now, just with other intermediaries, like online chats, forums, etc. People don't have legitimacy to act in any way they want, but they do nonetheless. And here is my last thought. What if you are toxic to an user, on the other side of your screen, who happens to have depression or other mental disorders, and you don't know that fact? Would you feel OK knowing that you're driving someone to hurt themselves, or worse?

I've faith on Beehaw, because I notice admins and moderators are really serious about being nice, and conversations, as far as I can notice, are superb. We all just need to defend this way of acting, pointing out the bad actors and censuring their bad actions.

I think it's a), but only because who has an Instagram account, automatically has a Threads account. There is no other way that 70 million people "joined" in just 3 days.

Hi, Elmo Muskrat. Why don't you stop playing too much Call of Duty and instead you go to Russian occupied territories in Ukraine to see how Ukrainians are living and being treated? Just a little tiny suggestion, as small as your brain. You're welcome.

Retro games (console & computer), indie games and open source games for the win, absolutely.

I'm playing Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (DCSS for friends), trying to get the Orb of Zot unsuccessfully.

My best runs so far are with a Minotaur, although a Gnoll is good too, more or less. The farthest I've arrived so far is Dungeon:12, and Orcish Mines:2 were nasty the two times I achieved to get into it.

I got harassed by tankies even after pointing them out that I have ADHD and ASD. That was months ago, when I was commenting from time to time on a lemmy.ml community. And mod did nothing, obviously 🤷‍♂️

I spend most of the time on Kbin, sometimes lurking and sometimes commenting on different posts.

I can't talk about sh.itjust.works because I rarely see content from that instance. Sometimes a meme, or sometimes a techie news post. But very rarely, as I said. If you stay federated or defederated with sh.itjust.works, I don't really care, because I don't really know that place or the content it's published there.

However, I strongly prefer to stay defederated from lemmy.world. I really can't understand why an instance with the .world domain is so US-centric. I don't give a shit about Iowa, Idaho, Florida, Montana, Texas, California or whatever posts from related communites I see while browsing all on Kbin. Besides, being myself anti-nazi, anti-fascist and anti-tankie, I support when other instances defederate from far-right and far-left instances, but I don't understand why they defederate instantly from certain instances and take some time to defederate from other certain instances. It's sad, but lemmy.world is the most similar thing to reddit right now, and it seems that they want to monopolize everything, because there are communities on other instances, as well as on Kbin, that have few activity, if any, in favour of .world ones.

And then there is a cryptic reply to a comment I made on another post.

ITS NOT COMMUNISM GUYS, ITS FASCISM!

Most communists are closeted fascists. Poor souls.

If we accept bots, I prefer those that can be summoned by the user, as it happens on Discord. If we accept bots either summoned or not by the user, they must be identified as such on their profiles.

But in no way I'll accept bots that pretend to be a human user or that can interact in the same way a human user can, neither commenting nor posting nor voting.

What word are you referring to?

When an online forum, social network, blog, etc. has a lot of users, it's easier that bad elements are present inside those communities. That's something that not only happens online, but in general. Compare a tiny village with 1.000 inhabitants, to a big city with 7.000.000 inhabitants. Where do you think there are more murderers, robbers, kidnappers...?

But defederation must not be the most useful resource to avoid those bad elements. You can't place a dome above that big city with 7.000.000 inhabitants to avoid those murderers from going to other places and starting murdering. Good laws and police officers can do really good to minimize the damage. In the same way, good admins and moderators can really improve how nice a server is.

It's true that when another server has bad policies or bad admins, we can't do their job from here, because that's not only our responsibility. If we do the hard work while they do nothing, it's obvious that defederation can be a good tool, until situation improves over there. But that's one thing, and another thing is complete and absolute defederation. Nobody deserves that, and, in the end, everything will be detrimental.

As time passes, people will realize that things in the fediverse are completely different to things on Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram... and they'll adapt their bad behaviour, influenced by those trash places, to a more healthy one.

I finally discovered why my taste is messed up since I'm taking my ADHD medication. It turns out it's a side effect that doesn't disappear, and apparently I can't do anything about it.

Besides that, I've been hyperfocused in this game called Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. Trying to pass the main dungeon, but dying miserably because of things.

And I'm watching two TV series, after several months without consuming any media, except for the news. One is "Red Dwarf". The other is "Doctor Who".

There is a gaming community, but I would like to see a retrogaming community, to discuss and share photos and videos about old/retro games, like Spectrum, NES, SNES, MS-DOS...

I'm really tired of reading laws and see how the legislator doesn't know that colons are a thing. And I have to add those colons wherever it's necessary so I can read and study them in an appropriate way.

Lemmy devs are jerks

Worse. They're tankies.

I’m assuming that you know about SOCIEDAD ESPAÑOLA DE PSICOLOGÍA CLÍNICA – ANPIR and their directory, but just in case: http://www.anpir.org/socios/panel/profesionales_avanzado.php

Thank you. I've only found one psychologist near my town, and he doesn't even treat ADHD on adults. Only on children and teenagers. Either way, being in Spain I can assure you that price would be astronomical for my wallet.

About the other link, I'm looking at it. There are a couple of psychologists from Singapore, but I need to be sure that they treat ADHD on adult population, and I don't even know how the price is per session there.

About that anniversary edition, is there any information? Since the tralier release, it's radio silent.

It doesn't work. It only appeared when I activated Proton compatibility (because it's a button, not a menu).

I'm about to finish the main campaign on Dungeon Keeper, and I've tried the New Game+ Campaign with KeeperFX. What a blast I had when I was a child.

  • Stellaris.
  • Rimworld.
  • Dwarf Fortress (Steam version).
  • Steamworld Dig 2.
  • The Talos Principle.
  • The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall.
  • The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.

I want to study through my documents without feeling the tempation of playing doom, or watching some YouTube videos, or scrolling memes mindlessly on Kbin. Those thoughts lead me to perform those tasks. Having ADHD sucks.

Dealing with my executive dysfunction. I managed to study for 90 minutes this Monday morning, and I tried to continue that same afternoon, but I couldn't do more than 30 minutes.

I need to put my head in order to avoid those situations, but I can't.

I'm on three servers right now (the other two are sopuli and kbin), and although I'm not as active on sopuli as I would like, I'm kind of active on kbin. The amount of news is overwhelming, I can't complain about that. But it's true that most of those news, either they are from negativity to doomerism (which, for a person with two mental disorders, some kind of anxiety and at risk of having depression, is not good), or they're exclusive to the US (which, for a person living in Europe, I don't give a shit about what DeSantis said or did to a random citizen in Florida).

So, that limits my interaction to memes, Ukrainian war news, sometimes ADHD content, open source games, and nothing else worth of relevance. That would make almost 5% of the total content on Kbin and other servers I'm on.

I don't know what kind of solution would be the best to handle this. The only thing I can say is to block all communities/magazines that are not relevant to you. But as you said, that leaves you with almost empty content or with old content. I don't mind old content, unless it's older than several weeks, but emptiness is really depressing. Even being Beehaw a small server compared to Reddit, this server is federating with other servers, and still...

One solution I can see about posting news is to post news in your native language, and provide a translation in the body of the post. On Reddit, those translations were a comment pinned. That way, we'll have less US-centric content and more global content from other countries outside Reuters source, which is in English and limited in global content daily.

But about the other things, I don't really know.

Eternity doesn't show beehaw content either.

I managed to study 2 hours yesterday. It seems that atomoxetine works. But it doesn't feel very effective, because I planned to study 8 hours, and a wild YouTube video appeared during my break. And today I'm doing nothing productive at all.

Medication works, but it doesn't work in the way I want, like methylphenidate did.

Doom 2 is my most favourite game, being Doom Eternal my second most favourite one. I've never played Doom 3, I've barely touched Doom 2016, and Doom is meh without the super shotgun or the pain elementals.

Gzdoom is the source port I use to play Doom games. It has lots of configurations, you can use tons of mods, and freelook & no autoaim are a delight.

By the way, I upload regularly Doom 2 videos on my HardLimit (Peertube) channel.

My biggest complain about Threadiverse (Lemmy/Kbin pages) since I came is that there is too much content from US, both posts and comments, and almost no content from other countries, except for UK. But no content from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany (only in German on feddit.de), and so on.

Reddit had that problem too, but on r/europe at least I could read several news posts every day, even with translations in the comment section. Here everything is about Musk, Trump, DeSantis, FCC, Governor of Virginia, Governor of California, Governor of Iowa, SCOTUS, POTUS, CNN, Fox, Jon Stewart...

I have no other complains. But this one is getting me tired of Lemmy/Kbin, because I have almost no place to interact on.
