There is a record of the Senate debate on this amendment.

One questioned 'Why doesn't this include the president?'.

Another senator replied 'It does under the section of anyone who holds an office'.

The response was 'Ok, I was unclear on that'. And the debate carried on.

So the writers obviously intended this to include the office of the president.

18 billion yearly profit last I checked.

Not enough.

Never enough.

Download the paper, read pages 10 and 11 for context.

Solution is stop using delivery services.

I would argue that it's no longer 'egg' once it's carbon ash and therefore never melted before it's existence ended.

No.

It's cheaper to out source it this way because as their farmers are contractors they don't have to adhere to the legal responsibilities they would if they ran them in their own.

They can keep their contracted farmers in debt to them indefinitely and essentially have a class of indentured servants.

Holy shit, boingboing.net?

That's a site I haven't heard of in a long time.

It was one of the first websites I remember regularly visiting in the 90s, and looks like they haven't changed much since.

That's cool.

I just want to say that this comment was a rollercoaster of emotions and I enjoyed the ride.

I'm around your same age and have always been told immigrants generally good.

That's not a generational view you have there. I'm willing to bet that immigrant is a synonym for 'not white' by whoever in your past has said this.

Because they can be slotted in to work existing machinery without retooling the entire plant.

A lot of people.

It's very easy to replace Israel with another state in the same place without killing or moving everyone.

Israel is an ethnostate. Ethnostates are bad. Ethnostates that are religiously motivated are doubly bad.

Israel could be a secular state that treated all ethnicities equally with zero loss in life or need for anyone to leave the area.

They chose not to.

It's not antisemitism to acknowledge this.

It's true, game prices today are the same as they have been for the past 40 years for AAA titles.

I can't think of an industry which hasn't had a price raise in decades.

Gaming had managed to get by on this thanks to increasing market volume as gaming became more mainstream in addition to extra revenue streams like micro transactions. But it's hitting saturation now and won't keep counteracting inflation forever

It's Louisiana, they would go back to 1800 if they could.

You can if they were mp3s instead of audio tracks!

Most cd players are able to handle both since like 2003.

Yes, it's generally considered rude to switch languages specifically to hide your conversation.

It's because most will assume you are doing it to talk shit.

Old timey American slang for black person, meant to have a derogative tone.

I have a Samsung TV and it's kind of irritating that it does this same thing. Any option you leave selected for a few seconds will start playing a sample

It's frustrating to have to go hunt for a safe place to put my cursor so my TV doesn't start playing something I don't want it to.

Florida here checking in.

Our government is hard at work on this.

Check out this pending bill up for vote during the next session: https://m.flsenate.gov/session/bill/2024/599/billtext/filed/pdf https://m.flsenate.gov/session/bill/2024/599/billtext/filed/pdf

Essentially it makes it illegal to be transgender and have a job in government or government adjacent.

Here is an excert: It is the policy of the state that a person's sex is an immutable biological trait and that it is false to ascribe to a person a pronoun that does not correspond to such person's sex. This section does not apply to individuals born with a genetically or biochemically verifiable disorder of sex development, including, but not limited to, XX disorder of sex development; XY disorder of sex development; sex chromosome disorder of sex development; XX or XY sex reversal; and ovotesticular disorder.

It continues on about not being able to fire people for thinking being gay is a sin and so on, but I don't want this to be a novel.

Wasn't.

It was put on hold while both sides argued for and against it.

The prosecutor won the argument and the hold was removed.

Actually, it really might in this case.

A number of the justices currently sitting on the supreme court are (or claim to be) originalists.

Meaning, the original intent of the writers is the correct interpretation. Evidence showing what that original intent was can be very useful with judges like that.

President has wide latitude in matters like this. Air strikes in this context are legal for him. He can even deploy troops as long as their deployment isn't longer then 60 days.

I still use Reddit on desktop but I've switched to Lemmy on mobile since Reddit killed third party apps.

I would use just Lemmy but it hasn't hit userbase criticality yet.

It's fine as a link aggregator but frustrating when a post I'm interested in has a deserted comment section.

The rural population isn't the issue, it's suburbia which is where the majority of the US population lives.

It's not dense enough for public transportation to be viable and it's zoned in a way that makes pedestrian traffic a non starter.

Suburbia causes a lot of problems. I understand why it exists - owning a house with a yard is nice. I personally wouldn't want to give that up to live in an urban environment if I didn't have to

These signs are rarely locked and are vandalized like this all the time.

This is a non story really.

No, what Israel is doing makes sense from a strictly selfish point of view.

The question of 'Why doesn't Israel integrate the Palestinians?' is a good one. The answer is numbers.

Israel was founded as a Jewish ethnostate. Those who have immigrated there have done so because they wanted to live in a Jewish ethnostate. So one of the core values of the country is that it is primarily a place for Jews.

If Israel absorbed the populations of Gaza and the West Bank into Israel, the Jewish population would become a minority in Israel if not immediately then within a generation.

I don't agree with the idea of ethnostates in general and I do believe establishing Israel as one was a mistake.

... But if you imagine the viewpoint of someone who does want a Jewish ethnostate like so many in Israel you can see why this solution is a non starter.

Good. Embrace me technology.

First Reddit, now YouTube. This year is a year of change for my Internet habits.

It's just so hard to see where we transition from here.

We went from a resource economy to a manufacturing economy to a service economy... And now many services are being automated. So what's next?

I'm in favor of the automation but recognize it's going to cause pain in the near future.

I've seen people tout a 'creative based economy', but to be honest LLMs and GANs seen poised to grab that sector before anyone in service can transition to it.

You'd hope all of this would mean an easier life, but so long as capitalism is the name of the game there is zero incentive to spread the benefits among all.

I mean, if you are here making a claim then it's your responsibility to come up with evidence to support it.

Telling someone to go research your claim is bad Internet etiquette.

If you don't feel like doing that, fine, then just don't engage.

That's not really an answer.

The things that make people feel/act this way are typically the really important stuff that has to get done or else there are consequences.

We can't just accept 'i just couldn't' in many of these situations.

It's being a realist.

If I have to drag you through a task because you aren't capable of doing it then it's easier to just not give it to you to begin with and do it myself.

Yeah. This is the one that came to my mind.

Dude straight up ended his career. His band members left, label dropped him and his colabs said they wouldn't work with him anymore.

Turns out he was a lieutenant in the oath keepers and the FBI grabbed him. Last I heard he made a plea deal and got put into the witness protection program.

He is the band and it can't exist without him. Even if he could continue, he'd have to rebuild it from the ground up.

It's a shame, I really Loved Demons and Wizards, the iced earth / blind guardian colab group.

... Based on some song lyrics I feel I should have seen this coming when looking back though.

And must testify in the other RICO cases, which is most important.

This is getting the small fries to turn and help catch the bigger fish.
