Haha, I honestly probably will. But no, it was to accompany a text message.

This is bullshit. The Secretary of State in Montana is a woman. The GOP is both con men AND con women.

There are three things with Tester, one good, two bad.

Bad - the demographic shift in Montana has been accelerating during COVID. Some people "Yellowstone". Basically a shitload of conservatives from liberal states have flocked to Montana and brought the vibe WAY down. There also used to be a concept in Montana of "vote for the most Montana-est candidate" that has historically led to state-wide offices other than President to be pretty competitive. Before the current, absolutely horrible R Governor (Gianforte), we had a two term Dem governor. Tester is another example. That trend has all but disappeared over the last few elections as people with no ties to Montana, but strong ties to conservative politics, have moved to the state.

The other negative is this is a presidential election year, so the Trumpers might be more motivated to vote.

The one boon Tester has going for him right now is that there is an abortion referendum on the ballot. As we've seen in a few other states, having a yes/no option to protect women's reproductive freedom has been bringing out the votes for democrats. Montana is a small state (~1.2 million people) so it doesn't take much to swing a race one way or the other.

It's pretty sad too because Sheehy and Gianforte are basically incredibly unlikeable. Absolutely vile pieces of trash, and they'll probably win anyway.

Okay I'm not trying to defend Fox here, but it seems like this was a joke.

Bitch you can't ctrl-F or click to chapter in an actual book either.

It was a company of 30 people, not some massive corporation. I think it's important to differentiate between small companies and huge, faceless conglomerates.

My wife, whose entire history with video games is Sims 3, Animal Crossing: NH, and Pokémon Go, played through this game start to finish and loved it. It wasn't really made for "gamers", it was made for Harry Potter fans that wanted to play a Hogwarts game. It didn't succeed as a gaming revolution, it succeeded in bringing non-gamers to buy it.

Personally, I love that she got into it whether it's mid or not, because it introduced her to a lot of the mechanics necessary to play "real" games in the future. And she had a lot of fun.

UPDATE: The Daily Beast added an editor’s note to their piece. Here it is in full: “Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to remove quotes attributed to the owner of Real America’s Voice, Robert Sigg, saying he is investigating whether the call was a prank and criticizing network staffers. A Daily Beast reporter had a conversation by text with a person who identified themselves as Sigg, on a number public records show was once associated with Sigg—but a spokesperson for Real America’s Voice said that it was not Sigg and is not his current number.”

We had to update our interview about someone potentially being duped by fake Trump because our interviewer was potentially duped by a fake person pretending to be the person who potentially got duped by fake Trump.

Wtf is happening here?

What a terrible choice. Like Vance brings basically nothing to the ticket. Actually gives me some hope.

Nah, the beef lobbies will just have the government increase subsidies. Obviously corporate profits are more important than the future of the human race.

Only 34% of Americans and barely over half of Harris supporters believing in Trans rights is pretty fucking depressing.

61% believing the criminal justice system is too lenient? What the fuck?

63% believing the government should ensure health care (including 1/3 of republicans) is encouraging at least.

Over half of both parties (55%D, 76%R) believe the US should be the world's only superpower. Barf.

America really sucks sometimes.

The difference is, Borders wasn't creating books. They were just the middleman. It would be more like if individual publishers decided to all start their own book stores to compete with Amazon.

Can't believe Johnny Cash actually shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.

Wow, so surprising they would pick one of the most hotly contested senate races in the country with a vulnerable incumbent Democrat. Total coincidence I'm sure, and not at all an effort to help the Republican.

The green party cares about the environment man.

It's just that it's the political environment. Fucking trash.

Wouldn't the opposite of a low risk, medium reward pick a high risk, medium reward pick?

What would stop owners from shifting the burden to the renters?

As of right now this is already how property taxes are handled by most landlords: mortgage + tax + est. cost to fix incidentals + time managing paperwork = rent (in a fair situation - though most will tack on as much extra for "profit" as they can)

So if you have a house worth 600k (12k tax), the mortgage is $3500/mo, they would just charge $4500+ a month to cover their costs.

I think the only way is to add extremely progressive property tax to multiple ownerships, and a name always has to be attached as "owner". So your first house and second might have limited property taxes, but your third would be double, fourth would be quadruple, fifth would be 8x etc.

There's also a big difference between "life expectancy" and "quality of life". Being overweight is uncomfortable, limiting, and can be a burden on people around you. I have no way of knowing if I'll live longer, but my life has become immeasurably better since I went from nearly obese to normal weight.

Additionally, I think the biggest factor to control for is socioeconomic status. A well-off fat person is probably going to have better life expectancy than a poor skinny person.

Not for lawyers he specifically hired. He chose them, and he'd have to prove why he would have won with effective counsel. Good fucking luck with that - there isn't a lawyer on earth that could win this case for him.

IT BELONGS IN A... oh, never mind. Carry on.

From an access to information request, I was able to obtain the documents related to the decision to undo the 4-year long WFH decision.

What does this even mean? Information request to who? Are you sure you didn't just read it in one of the hundreds of reddit or lemmy comments about this?

There's a difference between requesting something and expecting it.

She literally made a song about how Trump is a whiny bitch. She's pretty openly left-leaning.

Mark Kelly is super moderate - that's the only negative thing about him as far as I know. It's possible his moderation was more about being elected in AZ and he might be free to be more left-leaning if he were on a national stage, but that's like... not usually how it goes.

For Pete, it's more of an "electibility" question - whether him being a gay man would turn off some voters? I would love to think we're passed that on the left, but it's an untested assumption.

And just to be clear, Pete and Mark are actually my top picks for VP, on a personal level. I'm just playing Trump's advocate for the sake of discussion.

Beautiful game

I don't use TikTok, and there are a ton of reasons to be concerned about sending massive amounts of data to corporations, especially when they're state associated, but a very large amount of apps scan your clipboard.

Have you ever had an app text you a one time use code, and automatically input it? That app scans your clipboard. Facebook, Instagram, X, all scan your clipboard.

I see this brought up a lot and it just seems like the wrong argument against TikTok.

BlueSky is completely separate from Twitter. And as for TikTok, a social media scientist's concerns aren't really for their own personal privacy or the integrity of the web, but for reaching the largest audience they can.

Love it or hate it, TikTok is one of the largest audiences out there, period.

I remember this being a talking point when he was running against Obama in 2007. It's not diminished mental faculties to misspeak sometimes. The guy has been a better president than Trump could ever hope to be. It's bullshit that it's going to be these two old fucks facing each other again, but it's the hand we've been dealt.

Vote for Biden and then start laying the groundwork for 2028. Democracy doesn't happen once every four years.
