For example someone says "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" and you might say "that's a questionable phrase." or "I doubt the validity of that platitude". But is there something specific to label it as, i.e. "That's a [insert word]"

In order words, why is voting mandatory in Australia, but not UK, US, Canada or New Zealand?

Hi πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯΅πŸ«¦

I think this is next-level for what I'm capable of being a semi-idiot. But I appreciate the advice.

Hi, I never received a bot message that I was aware of. I thought that the links I posted in the comments were providing examples of what I meant and helping to describe the question. I don't really understand why it was removed. I can see that this post was also locked and then unlocked seemingly.

I guess I'm wondering if people think it's worth a watch in its current form

Well I completely agree with you there πŸ˜‚

They already conceded that hetero anal sex must also be considered immoral to maintain the view. Here's what I've got; Anal isn't a necessity. Homosexual people shouldn't be framed as immoral simply for engaging in basic parts of life based on their sexual nature. Homosexuality isn't inherently harmful and certainly not immoral. It's not their fault for being the way they are, which isn't wrong in any way, and it's also possible to use protection to prevent STDs.

Thanks. Could you possibly elaborate? Why are they not equal?

Does something uncompassionate have to be done to a human in order for it to be inhumane? Couldn't it also be done to non-human animals/any sentient beings?

When I swipe on my keyboard to say hello, it says help. When I'm not trying to say "help". It's confusing to the person receiving my text

Also going on faith that they might answer your question on their own without you even asking it, seems unreliable to me and often it's very unlikely or even impossible that they would unless you ask them yourself, depending on the context.

I appreciate what you're saying, certainly someone could claim to be just afraid of homosexuality while using that as a cover for actually hating it or being prejudiced against it or homosexual people. But I think bigotry, meaning "obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction, in particular prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group", doesn't exactly fit the hypothetical I described of a person who's just afraid of the concept without harboring any hateful feelings or displaying any discriminatory behaviors toward it. Shouldn't we help that person come to terms with their fear and be understanding, while certainly helping them to tackle that fear (without accusing them of doing something wrong, presuming that they weren't hypothetically)?

I think it's affirming the consequent

THIS!! Why didn't anyone else tell him? I'm glad you did. He might not die of fantasy now.

I'm not even Bri'ish and I would vote for that. Europe should laugh at them hard then throw in the rope and let them climb back into the boat before they proper drown.

What's with all the downvotes with no explanation?

Corrected Lemmy to Lemur. Leaving it because it's relevant to the post. I use the keyboard swiping/path-drawing function on Samsung keyboard

I see what you mean. I guess it's hard though because currently they can already say that (they aren't afraid of gay people and therefore aren't "homophobic" if interpeting the word literally, but they just hate them), whereas if there was a word that meant hatred of gay people, they would have to admit they are that thing instead, which would then be viewed worse by society in a similar way to racism or misogyny etc. If a word existed for it, they would have no recourse but to admit that even if they aren't technically homophobic (though they are by the common understanding and usage of the word), they are still word that means hateful/discriminatory toward gay people. And if there's no distinction, I don't know what we can say to people who aren't hateful but just afraid of the idea of homosexuality. What do they tell their therapist? "I have a fear of homosexuality and/or gay people but I don't hate it/them"? That's a mouthful and a simple word could suffice couldn't it?

I think I understand now, but what has left me scratching my nose (metaphorically):

Why is it called "B if and only if A", if what it really means is "B only if A and vice versa"? (Am I correct in thinking that's what it means?)

I just don't understand how that translates grammatically. To me, "B if and only if A" sounds the same as "B only if A". I can accept that they mean different things in the context of logic, just like I can assign any meaning to any label, like I could say that "dog" now means "kite" in a certain context. But it seems unintuitive and doesn't really make sense to me. Does that make sense?

I realise it's a dumb question

Can you send me the video?

I think it forces a lot of idiots to just pick a box when they aren't informed on politics at all. Probably skews the numbers a bit tbh.

I think Australians do the worst New Zealand accents and vice versa. So maybe closely related countries just don't understand each other/their differences as much as vastly different countries in certain cases? In some ways it's the other way around tho so idk.

Or they get fined if they can't get to a polling booth due to disability and poor disability access, or circumstances.

If car, then vehicle = true

Car if and only if vehicle = true.

Is this correct?

Therefore "If A then B" = "A if and only if B" (or "If B then A" = "B if and only if A")?

Reading this in a Minnesotan accent. Ah jeez! Who coulda seen this coming, ha, hon? They really, well, they shot themselves damn near in the foot, didn't they now? Don'cha know the Eurapeans want to help you now, but these racists ya see, racism always gets in the way of peace. That's what my mother always said.

Nice South Park reference! I guess you probably haven't been penalised in any way or you'd know, so you can probably can get away with that. But isn't it technically illegal to not cast a proper vote in Australia? (I think compulsory voting is stupid so I don't blame you btw)

At least it's pagan though. A bit of an F you to the mainstream religions.

Thank you everyone.

Some can pull it off, some can't. Tbh

Based!

If you have a big balding spot that's visible, I say either get a hair transplant or embrace it (it will probably progress until you may want to eventually shave it all off). You can go either way. But you will need to go on drugs as well if you want to keep the effect of the hair transplant (unless you get repeated transplants). Hope this helped

I always wondered how it handled duplicate letters. If you stay hovering over one key it doesn't work as well. Thanks for answer (TFA)

Rift Apart is an excellent game. It's the epitome of what the games I'm talking about could be in the more modern era of gaming, although a new Jak game in the style of Jak II and Jak 3 would be even better to me. I just feel like this genre has such untapped potential. A more realistic game like this would be awesome to see as well.

Sentient rights I can understand... but like... even unconscious organisms? Single celled organisms like a bacteria? o.O

Very good point. Are you also aromantic, if that's okay to ask? That is, some people are asexual but still enjoy engaging in romance just without the sexual stuff. Forgive me if I said this wrong

+100 for Barry, that show was too good and underrated. I don't know if I'll find a show as great as that for a while, but thankful Fargo is still on.

As far as A24, I think Robert Eggers' 'The Lighthouse' and Ari Aster's 'Beau Is Afraid' are my favorites.

Another weird movie I enjoyed recently is Triangle of Sadness (2022). Oh and 'Enemy' (2013) was so artistic, I think. Also 'The Banshees of Inisherin' (2022), what a movie.

Boots Riley's debut film and TV show, Sorry to Bother You and I'm a Virgo, respectively, were amazing as well.

I haven't seen the 'X' films or Frankenstein's (...) but I will have to now.
