[She/They] A quiet, nerdy arctic fox who never knows what to put in the Bio section.

Why am I not surprised that a guy who had a full crying meltdown over the existence of pronouns would turn out to be a pedo?

I don't think streamers and video creators are more likely to be sex pests. You're just more likely to hear about a sex pest if their career involves trying to be seen by as many people as possible.

The child abuse and fear mongering are things that they're proud of and believe are justified. Trying to address it just makes them feel more powerful.

Calling them "weird" works because their whole ideology is based on them being the normal ones. If you take that away, you also take away their entire (false) claim to authority.

All the "I like Republicans' fiscal conservatism" people in this thread need to read this. "Fiscal conservatism" and "small government" are and always have been dogwhistles for racism and other forms of bigotry. "Government waste" does not refer to inefficiency in government spending, it's code for programs that help the poor and minorities.

The core of Conservative ideology is a belief in the existence of natural hierarchy, where all people owe privilege to the wise and righteous beings above them and are obligated to punish those below for their inferiority. The Conservatives themselves, having designed this hierarchy, are oh-so-conveniently at the very top of it. Everything that Republicans do makes sense when viewed from this perspective.

Oh, sorry, I had the wrong guy. I was thinking of Dan Vasc, whose red-faced screaming meltdown is embedded in the article you linked. Must have gotten the names mixed up.

Let me try this again.

Why am I not surprised that the guy who turned out to be a pedo also gets upset about other people having pronouns?

There's a novel titled Glasshouse, by Charles Stross, where members of a far future civilization sign up to live in a simulated mid-20th century town. At one point the protagonist disassembles a flashlight and discovers that it's just a flashlight-shaped case containing a small wormhole whose other end is in close orbit around a star. No one knew how to make an LED or incandescent bulb, or understood enough about early electronic components to hook one up to a switch and a battery. It was easier to make a wormhole generator and stick it in a metal tube.

Hey now, that association is very unfair to wolf scrotums.

A Pharisee (politically powerful religious faction) lawyer decides to test Jesus by asking what the most important commandment is. Jesus answers by stating two commandments: Love God wholeheartedly, and love your neighbor as much as you love yourself. All the other rules are based on these two.

The lawyer asks for clarification: "Who is my neighbor?" (He can't mean everyone, right!? Some of them are, you know...)

Jesus responds by telling the Parable of the Good Samaritan: A story about a Jewish man, much like the lawyer, who is violently mugged and left to die in the street. A priest and a Levite (member of the tribe in charge of the temple), both highly respected leaders in Jewish society, pass by while pretending not to notice. The only person who stops to help is a Samaritan, a member of a hated ethnic and religious minority that had recently defiled the Jewish temple in an act of terrorism. (The Samaritans' own temple had been destroyed a century earlier and the date of its destruction made into an annual holiday, they were hated so much.)

"Which of the three men was a neighbor to the one who was robbed?"

"The one who showed mercy to him," the lawyer admits, unwilling to utter the name of his mutual enemy.

"Go and do likewise."

It says to love everyone, especially the ones society hates.

Which specific puberty blocker drug do you believe increases the risk of cancer?

I made .iso files and mounted them in virtual drives to do the same thing. I could have used cracks but I didn't want a virus and I still had the delusion that doing things "fairly" actually meant anything.

If the AI could really detect any discrepancies between human and AI-generated text, it would stop making them.

It's because the furry fandom, when it was founded back in the late 70's by a gay polycule of sci-fi fans, was one of the only communities in existence that accepted openly gay and trans people. (And the only non-fetish community.) For many queer people, the furry fandom is the first place they ever feel welcome.

Seems kind of weird to blame the guy who is trying to do the thing you want and not the people who keep blocking it from happening.

That gay and trans people are all disgusting perverts who hate me and want to destroy everything good. My queer friends provide more emotional support in a day than I ever got from my family, the church, or anyone else inside the Evangelical bubble I was raised in.

That people in "The World" (those outside the church) are all evil or unknowingly controlled by Satan and will always try to hurt me. Textbook cult programming from the people who were emotionally abusing me.

That God is speaking directly to me through a voice in my head, except when that voice says I'm a girl, then it's actually a demon or something. (It was likely undiagnosed DID as a result of childhood emotional neglect and repressed gender dysphoria.)

That scientists are all part of a massive satanic conspiracy to trick people into leaving the church.

Dungeons & Dragons being a satanic conspiracy. Satanic Panic stuff in general.

Lots of anti-evolution propaganda that turned out to be misrepresentations of science or complete fabrications.

That they actually believed in all that stuff Jesus said about loving thy neighbor, helping the poor and the sick, and being kind to immigrants, instead of spending their whole lives voting to hurt all of those people as much as possible.

True, but it's still the right thing to do. At the very least it will force some members of Congress to clearly and undeniably declare themselves as supporters of tyranny.

I already turned down a free copy of this game because it installs a rootkit, and now this happens. I hear the game itself is a lot of fun, and I feel bad for the actual developers who are watching people shit on their work because of management and publisher bullshit.

That link is for a previous breach against a different entity, so not the same story at all.

This is beautiful! Now I want to learn how to make these but I know that's just the ADHD looking for a new hobby to stop caring about in a week.

Yes, I meant no negative or unintended consequences.

I eat two meals a day. I drink mostly plain water, with some black coffee and unsweetened tea. I cut out soda over a decade ago and sweets are a rare luxury. I can't afford to eat massive amounts of food even if I want to. So why am I still fat?

American Evangelicalism is a tulpamancy cult. I was raised Evangelical, sent to a private Evangelical school, and made to attend several Evangelical churches until adulthood. In all of these communities, it was universally believed that God directly speaks to each person through a special voice in their head. I was very strongly pressured to find, listen to, and obey this voice, and made to feel like I was not a "true believer" for being unable to channel it into glossolalia.

I've never heard it put that way before, but it's an interesting observation. A lot of animals are culturally associated with personality traits (e.g. clever foxes, loyal dogs, proud lions) and furries usually choose a species they relate to, so it creates a system where people tend to self-sort into various tribes based on values and personality type. Look at any decently popular species and you'll likely find that most of the people repping it share a common set of traits.

Old media has become such a minefield because there's just so much awful stuff that went over my head at the time. I'm scared to recommend anything that I haven't rewatched/reread in the past few years.

It wasn't all bad, though. One of my favorite TV shows is Babylon 5, a 90's sci-fi that I watched as it aired but hadn't seen again until late last year. All I really remembered were the cool space battles and devious political maneuvering, but it turned out to also be an incredibly progressive show. One of the main characters is first introduced while wearing robes that appear to have been partially made from a trans pride flag!

Let's also not forget that a lot of those "lazy" people are actually struggling with illness, insecurity, lack of critical resources, discrimination, burnout from "the grind", or just plain don't see the point in contributing much to a system that never seems to contribute anything back. Guaranteed housing, food, and healthcare would fix a lot of the problems that cause "laziness".

If I use my Persuasion skill to help someone think their way through a problem, is that a "mind-effecting affect"?

If you feel like a man, like being a man, and enjoy having man parts, you're probably a man. Your interests are not your gender, and dancing isn't exclusive to women. Even ballet has male dancers.

Still, a little bit of exploration never hurt anybody. If you are trans, if living as another gender would make you much happier, wouldn't you want to know sooner rather than later? And if you aren't trans, you might still learn a thing or two about yourself that you never would have discovered otherwise. Most people go their whole lives without ever questioning their gender or closely examining what it means to them, and I think they're missing out. There is power in truly knowing yourself.

Do some thinking. Ask more questions. Not just to others, but to yourself as well. What do you like about being a man? Can you imagine not being one? How does that image make you feel? If you could instantly become anything, with no rules or consequences, what would you pick? Don't shut anything down; there are no wrong answers. Allow yourself the freedom to explore.

It may help you to stop thinking in the binary terms that society imposes on us. Gender isn't just a question of Male or Female; there are many different kinds of men and many different kinds of women. There is a large area in between where the two overlap and the lines get fuzzy, and even places that aren't on the same spectrum at all. I myself am a demigirl. My gender identity is mostly female, but also a little bit male and a little bit something else. You don't need to feel obligated to be what anyone else is.

As for how I found out, I've already posted that elsewhere in this thread. It looks like you've gotten a lot of answers from others as well. I wish you good luck in wherever this journey takes you.

I'm friends with multiple women and non-binary folks who are in poly relationships, are very much not being preyed upon, and actively hate anything "patriarchal".

Also the term is referring to their original status pre-hormonal or other gender affirming care so no.

We already have a far less problematic set of terms for that: Assigned Male at Birth (AMAB) and Assigned Female at Birth (AFAB). "Biological male" is a scientifically misleading phrase that bigots invented to slander trans people and it should not be used by anyone.

This was before they added F2P, but ten minutes a day of checking my two hisec market alts (who didn't have a lot of skills because it meant pausing my main's training) was making me just enough to pay for my account and there was room to expand further. Granted, it did take me several months of trading to build up enough funds to support this operation, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect to do this on day 1.

If zero kids on puberty blockers decide not to transition that would be pretty telling.

Maybe, if that were anywhere close to what is actually happening. In reality, there are more cisgender children taking puberty blockers than there are trans children taking them, so the number of kids deciding not to transition after taking blockers is >50%. Your speculation is baseless.

To be fair, it's kind of hard to come up with a defense when your premise is "Cancer treatments cause cancer" 😄

No mention of trans people, which is odd given that Florida is a Do Not Travel state for its government's efforts to criminalize being transgender.

They're not talking about natural monopolies. A natural monopoly is when there's some barrier to entry that prevents competitors from entering the market, like a need for prohibitively expensive infrastructure.

What OP is talking about are situations like Walmart opening a store in a new location, operating it at or near a loss to drive the local competition out of business, and then jacking up prices once no competitors remain. The government isn't forcing them to do that.

It's also another brick in Florida's road to queer genocide. If a gay or trans child has bigoted parents, social media is often the only way they can learn about the existence of other people like them.

My father pulled that "just ignore it" shit, too. Somehow it wasn't the bully's fault for attacking me, it was my fault for being such an entertaining target.

Thank you. It doesn't feel like I've done much journeying, as I was essentially trapped in emotional stasis for most of my life and circumstances have so far prevented me from doing anything with my newfound knowledge, but at least I know which way is forward now.

lonelygirl15? I remember a friend telling me about that series because she wanted to share a funny video reply (Remember those?) by somebody who managed to find the same animal plushies that the girl carries around; it was a parody episode where the plushies talk about the current situation in the story and suggest that maybe the girl should drop all the teen drama stuff so they can all focus on running for their lives instead.

That sounds fun. I had a similar idea once, but it was mechs protecting a massive rolling city with its convoy of industrial vehicles. Many of the game mechanics would be enabled by specific vehicles that were vulnerable to attack.

The medical consensus already exists. This isn't some experimental drug; puberty blockers have been widely prescribed to children for decades. We know how they work, we know they are generally safe, and we know that blocking access to them will result in needless suffering and death.

Here are the "huge questions" you should really be asking:

If these drugs are so dangerous, why are people only bringing it up now and not sometime in the 40 years since they entered widespread usage?

Why are people suddenly claiming that a drug we've been using for decades has "too many unknowns" and "not enough evidence" for its safety?

If all of this controversy is really genuine, and not the result of a moral panic rooted in bigotry, then why is nobody proposing a ban on puberty blockers for cisgender children? How can they be "dangerous" and "untested" for one group of children but safe and effective for a different group of children when both groups are taking them for the same purpose (to delay puberty)?

If you really care about the welfare of trans people, then you should support giving us the healthcare that we and our doctors say we need.

When a friend of mine moved away to be with his trans girlfriend, my parents said it was a sign of the world's corruption in the End Times. That's how most Christians think, in my experience. Anything they personally agree with is God's will, anything they don't like is Satan's corruption, and anything they don't understand is "mysterious ways".
