i'm so sorry.

I've had games not record time because I was in offline mode on vacation and I pre-downloaded it, or I just played in offline mode or directly from a game's executable without steam's crap embedded.

In the past it's been trivial to set achievement unlocks and time played with 3rd party tools too.

I don't see any kind of discounts mentioned either. I almost never buy from steam directly, usually reputable 3rd party sites like Fanatical, GamersGate, WinGameStore etc that I find through isthereanydeal. It'll show as being on my account but nobody knows what I paid for it and I almost never pay MSRP.

Then there's the countless bundle keys I used to get that I definitely never played and will never play because I wanted 2-3 games in a bundle of 10-20 that was cheaper than one of the games alone.

It wouldn't shock me at all if there was 10 billion worth of unplayed games though. I have friends that buy all the hot releases and then barely touch them because a couple hundred bucks a month is not significant to their monthly budget.

Sounds like e911 or pots lines.

Well it's a trick, they are more anti-muslim than anti-jew. They want the war to escalate because both sides die, and the one they hate more has more casualties.

They can also sell them all the weapons used in the war... might as well fill the pockets with the new "solution."

About a month after surgery the implant started to perform poorly. They tweaked some software settings and now it's running better than it did before the drop-off for a longer period, based on the actual blog post the story is talking about https://neuralink.com/blog/prime-study-progress-update-user-experience.

This is obviously prototype technology with insane risk. The guy only signed up because he's paraplegic. It's not in any way remotely ready for normal humans and probably won't ever be in our lifetimes. IMO this is like self driving technology, it's easy to promise the world but hard to actually accomplish what they say.

wow lets poison DNS, surely no one will start linking these piracy sites via ip addresses or create alternative domain names. wcgw.

Delisted in Puerto Rico, part of the US. Amazing.

As an American, I am ashamed that my country's government does acts of pure evil like this. I'm sorry rest of the world, I wish my voice was more than but a whisper while on a St Patrick's Day bar crawl in Boston.

In my honest opinion whoever proposed this, approved this, and ultimately executed this should be persecuted for something akin to shouting fire leading to a stampede and deaths.

Actions like this are exactly why we probably shouldn't have a completely opaque society.

The guy can say anything he wants. It's not like if he does something illegal that the supreme court is going to convict him. He doesn't need to ever win an election, he's there for life.

This will just upset the people who already know the guy is a problem and are already upset with him.

I wish justices had term limits.

High paying jobs with tons of new graduates have an oversaturated supply problem. It's no surprise that when people figure out that becoming a software developer is easy street to 150k+++ WFH that there was a huge rush to get those jobs... now that there are TONS and TONS of young junior devs there is no shortage to hire someone for near minimum wage.

Why pay 400k for a senior developer when you can hire a mid-level for ~100k to be a manager, and 4 juniors for 60k a piece, and augment them with chatgpt to help them learn what they are skill gapped by.

Plus junior devs are so desperate you can force them to come into the office, something the dev divas ten years ago refused to do back when there was a huge shortage of coders.

AOL still has 1.5 million active monthly subscribers. People forget to cancel subscriptions all the time.

Subscriptions are a great way to sell a service to someone who isn't using it, and when they want to cancel it getting the spent money on something never used is generally impossible.

IMO for something like a streaming service... if you don't stream a minute of video in a month you shouldn't have to pay anything.

Don't forget, Russia is invading ukraine because they are antisemitic.

cue white/black arm meme with russia and usa using antisemitism as an excuse to do authoritarian shit.

If the guy wasn't a dumbass he would have sold the pve edition as a standalone game and avoided all the drama.

“as a first priority.” Nakasone will “also contribute to OpenAI’s efforts to better understand how AI can be used to strengthen cybersecurity by quickly detecting and responding to cybersecurity threats.”

So what you're saying is that the guy is there to setup data collection to feed to the NSA surrounding any and all inputs and ensure that the inputs are not able to be used for any meaningful intelligence actions by US competitors. Got it.

I don't know why anyone would buy this. Maybe it's one of those precious metal reclamation groups.

Generally hardware that old is cheaper to replace with newer more efficient hardware than to even consider running due to electricity costs.

10 * 350k of total comp is 3.5 million dollars... guessing the german counterparts probably get 120k of total comp so only 1.2 million dollars, assuming it's 1:1 staff swap.

Never heard of american software engineers at FAANG getting anything less than superstar sf bay wages, never heard of crazy wages in all of the EU for any kind of worker.... but maybe someone can correct me on the german team's salaries.

I unsubbed from prime last year once the ads were announced on prime video.

There's no reason to have it anymore imo.

A VPN sub is like $40 a year and that lets me get any media I want.

Free Shipping without prime starts at orders over $35. Who doesn't spend at least $35 in 2024?

Being a worker is degrading.

Being an owner is empowering.

I have nothing but admiration for the guy willing to be the human experiment. He's like an astronaut paving the way for a potential future for mankind.

Even if someone else finds the right way of doing it, this is driving us towards having practical man-machine interfaces. It's really cool.

Also completely terrifying to think about being the experiment myself.

I'll agree with this. GIMP is the most user-unfriendly piece of photo editing software i've used to date. I can pick up video games like Shadow Empire and spend dozens of hours figuring out how it works but GIMP is a wall to me.

Which democrat or republican with significant support from the political parties would you recommend as a replacement?

I'm not really thrilled about almost all the money in show business being funneled to a couple of actors and actresses and giant studios/big money.

Over and over again the majority of writers, actors, actresses and supporting teams strike for a real share and they never seem to get one.

Meanwhile big companies get billions in tax credits every year for shooting movies. The public subsidizes the costs and then pays again once a show releases. It's insanely big bucks going to the ownership class.

Weird, this doesn't sound like a thread you should be in then.

All major political parties and private organizations seem to be solidly on the side of supporting israel despite the atrocity. Only students and activitists outside the halls of power are very vocal about it. Normal people seem to think the gaza strip invasion is horrible but we have no more say on what the politicians and wealthy do than a foreigner does.

Since you're a foreigner i'll assume you are ignorant about this, but the US President effectively has no say on aid or penalties for foreign parties. Only the members of senate and congress can vote on bills funding the war effort... or removing said funding.

How much would you charge a stranger to go to a store, pick up an order, and drive it to their house?

chiqita says hello

0.07 Landmeile = 1.4 Megapapierdicke

If the law says you can transfer licenses posthumously to someone, businesses are compelled to do so. No private agreement is above the law.

If the business granting the license doesn't consent and they pull it they are then able to be sued for violating a law allowing posthumous transfer of license.

Hypothetical question: If you omitted the couple bucks of income from the 1099 on that one savings account and you later got audited- how much money would you be on the hook for? what would the consequences be in worst case and likely case scenarios?

I honestly think the government has next to no resources now to go after tax cheats that aren't hiding tens to hundreds of thousands of owed taxes... but would love to hear what others have to say. I suspect missing out on less than a dollar of taxes from omitting a single figure 1099 would not be big enough to chase and if found probably less costly than hiring a preparer every year when averaged out over your lifetime of tax returns.

Why pay for the prime account? What are you getting out of it?

Have you done the math of what you could do with $140 per year instead?

Does the hardware being all so arranged as it is in this manner to create a supercomputer make any difference to that evaluation?

The storage drives for all of this have been stripped. You can't just run commands on the hardware... you have to figure out how to cluster things with software, buy drives for it all, have it all installed in a datacenter somewhere which is going to cost way more than the purchase price.

The labor costs for the technical people required to do this are way more than half a million a year.

The piecemeal nature of selling thousands of parts means the wages for a group necessary to coordinate it all would probably make the whole thing not feasible.

Ebay prices are higher than market prices imo. 15% ebay cut + 3% paypal fees + sales tax + shipping is brutal.

drones above a certain dinky threshold also require registration

Basically 0 chance that this law applies to RC helicopters/planes/multirotors. They don't contain GPS and they aren't monitored by air traffic controllers.

The newer regs boil down to you basically have to write your ID number in the canopy and avoid restricted airspaces... and who the hell is gonna roll by and check that you have a number written in your canopy? Maybe cops that get a complaint, and that is pretty rare. The older guys who have been in the hobby that I know completely ignore the newer regs, if you aren't bothering anybody then nobody cares.

An adult would be content on half a medium pizza

A medium cheese pizza from dominos is 1660 calories. A slice is 210 calories.

630 calories (3 slices) for a meal seems about right.

A pan pizza from dominos is 2320 calories. a slice is 290 calories.

Two slices for the pan pizza seems fine too and with their typical pickup deals is the same price.

Though their deals usually give you two toppings for free. My favorite is Chicken, Bacon, Ranch sauce on pan. It's 2,960 a pizza, or 370 per slice. Right now my local dominos offers these for $8 each if you buy two. 6000 calories for $16. Stupid cheap and feeds minimum 6 people who want a thousand calorie meal each.

This is just so some NIMBY tools can't ban a burrito place from going into a space that was oddly defined to practically mandate a subway restaurant or other sub shop that isn't explicitly fast food.

yay billion dollar lawyer paycheck

0%. Rent when established is the rent for the unit in perpetuity.

Decide to rent? You get to rent it out until it's no longer worth it, then it becomes owner occupied forever or torn down for high density housing. Sounds great to me!

"This would never work!1111oneoneone" - my last apartment was $1425 when I moved in and $1500 after I moved out 10 years later. If they rent it out again as-is it would be all of $1800 at most.... but they could still make money at $1425/mo, or even less, after water/insurance/property taxes and income tax.

Publicly traded companies do not have a duty to pay their workers, they have a duty to pay their shareholders and to maximize profits.

If you can get the same job done overseas for less money why would you pay american labor? what's the benefit?

Not saying I like the system, just saying that's how it is. Gotta have some kind of fine or penalty for outsourcing, offshoring and 1099 contracting labor if you really want to fix it.

Shit should be changed but the majority election system is funded by the ownership class who greatly benefits from this not changing.

Don't lump me in with those assholes. I support LGBTQI, I just don't agree with the pronoun block. Why change English to accommodate something that already exists?

I think making the pronoun block front and center of communications and daily life has triggered the conservatives and caused a backlash that will cause way more harm than the pronoun block would ever have done good. If you want a social change to stick you need to align it to things that everybody believes in. A call to use more formal language in communications is traditional and something that the majority could get behind, pronouns are just a progressive idea that will be used for slurs, hate and vitrol.

When you do something for a group that is already facing a ton of hate and then you try and change the habits of the nazis, they're going to do everything in their power to resist your demands. The current wave of extremist politics is a reaction from the past few decades of extreme swing towards PC culture. Change is gradual. The current conservative bullshit will pass because people really aren't like that. There are a lot of people that grew up before the culture shift seen in the 90s, 00s, and 10s. When younger generations start saying "you need to do this" the older ones get upset. They don't understand or don't agree, or generally don't want to change. Forcing this down people's throats and making everything more every day in the open is going to prime people for more extreme hate thoughts, even if they by default would be neutral or even leaning progressive.

The republican party and conservatives have latched on to this shared unease of change and have used it to target LGBTQI in majority conservative states. States that before never were regressive are turning so... because politics and news are talking about it constantly and making the impression that somehow they (older people) are being targeted, even when they are not. It's another public policy push that distracts us from real issues like healthcare, social security, tax reforms and loop holes that the rich and wealthy abuse, and other major policies that are harming us every single day to prop up some wealthy interest group who benefits from the status quo.

I know this is a long post, but to sum it up: "You get more flies with honey than with vinegar."
