Transmission is awesome because it's simple. It only does what you need and has the best UI for doing so.

If a 1yo was raped and somehow impregnated, they would literally and absolutely die if they did not receive an abortion. In absolutely no way does this disgusting moron make any sense.

How the hell does Zoom have 7500 employees??

Steve Jobs did at least actually do things. Musk just buys things and claims he did them.

I feel like I'm the only person who wasn't blown away by the graphics.

Like sure it looked really good, but it still looked like a videogame, on the same level as 3yo last-gen Last of Us 2

I don't like Apple but they ship their devices with everything a basic user needs and if a high quality, completely for free. When you get a MacBook you don't need to worry about finding and downloading an external app for almost anything - from viewing any kind of file, to basic photo and video editing, to document processing, etc. And they don't track every minute thing you do and act like malware to try to make you use their products.

  1. Optimisation. Many, many games haven't even had a proper baseline of optimisation let alone targeted optimisation for specific specs like consoles

  2. The PS5 GPU is more powerful than a 2060, and as a newer generation architecture supports more features which can be leveraged to improve performance

  3. The PS5 operating system is wayyy less taxing than Windows or any other OS because it does much less and does it more optimized

All the recent stuff is him trying to whitewash his image so he isn't remembered as the bastard he is. Unfortunately, it's working.

What is and isn't worth preserving is not something that can be known at the time of preserving. The point of preservation is so things can be accessed later if and when they're needed. Even shitty games like Avengers may be relevant in many ways in the future, even if just to reference as 'a shitty game'.

It's cos they're privately owned and so don't necessarily have to be shit, where publicly owned companies are legally required to maximize profits for shareholders.

Google effectively has a monopoly on the Android app ecosystem and this trial brought to light mountains of evidence that they maintain this through extremely anti-competitive means.

Exactly. I can't believe how much praise people are giving Cyberpunk for not being broken anymore. Like bro that ain't an achievement.

Pros: Moderation quality, app ecosystem, no corporations or ads.

Cons: Small community, wayyy too much duplication of 'subreddits' on Lemmy across different servers (inherently not an issue on Mastodon).

Yep, though Google is happy to process your data in the cloud constantly while Apple consistently tries to find ways to achieve it locally, which is generally better for privacy and security but also cheaper for them too.

Yep. Costs a bunch of money upfront and ongoing to operate a streaming service, and even more to make even just an alright one. Plus you split consumers which will naturally give you and competitors fewer subscribers over all. All of that just to get paid directly instead of just getting free money, even if less per-view.

Open Critic doesn't tell you anything, it just aggregates everyone's scores. If you don't like the scores then blame the critics.

Rip the people who suffer both, simultaneously.

The limited benchmarks I've seen put the new X Elite at slightly less efficient than the M2 Pro (let alone M3 Pro). It only gets marginally higher scores when operating at 3x the wattage.

Also, let's not imagine even for a second that notoriously terrible ARM are going to make it easy to support this chip, especially not in the long term.

Yeah my semi-techie friend still has an S9+ from over 5 years ago and honestly he isn't really missing anything beyond a few iterative improvements.

Nilay's point is that the Vision Pro is by far the best implementation of this kind of device yet - possibly just about as good as is actually possible - and yet still suffers severe issues as a result. Usually Apple waits and learns until they can launch a product that is well considered and that often shows the industry how to move forward, yet in this case it's quite possible that they've actually just demonstrated that this kind of computing fundamentally doesn't work.

Yeah I got it for free with a purchase and have played a couple hours and it runs terribly, looks middling, and the gameplay is the most base aspects of previous Bethesda games except lacking even the exploration or cohesion.

Microblogs like Mastodon are excellent for following specific people, and for getting an overview of the current zeitgeist. Forums like Lemmy are excellent for following specific topics. Both are useful in different ways.

Why? Prison is supposed to be rehabilitative. In America it is 100% punitive instead, but Australia retains like 25% of the rehabilitation concept.

As an owner of the Pixel 7 Pro, I'd say the S23 Ultra. Better in every possible way except duplicate Google/Samsung apps, mostly-subjective camera differences, and subjective UI skin.

If they added automatic online account collation and mass deletion I'd pay them $100 on the spot to wipe the hundreds of random accounts I have on sites/services I never use and often have never used.

I used to pirate everything when I had no money. Now that I have money I buy games - including everything I ever pirated - and I pay for a few other subscription services that are worth or nearly worth their price. I pirate anything else.

*conservative deaths

I'd recommend watching Josh Strife Heyes videos on MMOs, but if you want an overview, the biggest ones are WoW, FFXIV, and Guild Wars 2. I'd recommend the latter.

I am 100% certain it will be worth it. FROM have never half-assed a game nor expansion, Elden Ring least of all.

Basically some JS library devs have decided that JSDoc will work better for their specific use case as libraries than TS.

To be fair, Chrome was vastly superior to Firefox for ages in the early 2010's

Godot. Defold.

Nah he's not really - near the end of the video he says "it's cool to have these (crypto) features built in"

I love Fedora but definitely Mint for a normie. Even then I question if you should install Linux at all since reliably being able to do what you need to do is priority one, especially for a student, and if he may be blocked in his work as a result I don't think it's a great idea.

*3 hour show + 30 min pre-show which still actually included a bunch of awards.

The reason why Unity refuses to not make it retro-active is because they want money from Genshin Impact etc which already launched. If they don't make it retroactive then the whole point of the change on their end is gone.

I really don't understand how things like this get made.

Like I understand that there are tonnes of rich people with zero brainpower who fund this sorta crap, but how do the people creating it ever think anything other than 'this concept is shit and nobody will ever want this'???

BG3 like DOS2 doesn't have shared inventories because they want multiplayer situations to allow for stuffing around etc

Apple Music is the best music platform by far due to clean and simple focus and UI, performance, and also lyrics. Unfortunately, it still sucks in all the ways that streaming inherently sucks though, combined with its intention to suck you into the Apple world.
