just a dude on the internet

Almost like when you take religion out of the picture it's one country committing genocide against another which is never okay for any reason. Israel can scream "but muh anti-semitism" all they want but it's a scapegoat. Ignore Jewish/Muslim backgrounds and look at what's really going on. It's nothing but a disgusting land grab and genocide that's been going on since WW2.

The world would 100% be a better place without Israel, and that's nothing to do with their religion. The country itself is evil and corrupt. They are bigoted and hypocritical. Israel deserves no sympathy or support. Out of all the bullshit I've seen happen in the middle east the past few decades, Israel is definitely the most abhorrent and repulsive source of conflict.

It exists and people hate it. If you want reddit go to reddit.

seeing as copilot says at the start of every conversation that it will be recorded, not to mention their massive (non)privacy policy and terms of use, this isn't really news. this is just a fact

alternate headline: company looks at data they tell you they will monitor

It's almost like if they want people to not hate their country they should stop being a corrupt authoritarian hellhole

If I'm talking to a friend I want them to be themselves and genuine. Having someone else compose a message for them, AI or human, invades my privacy and tells me that they don't want me to see who they genuinely are. Talk to me like you normally do. Don't paraphrase everything you want to say through a third party. We're not strangers, there's no need for everything to be professional. I'm friends with YOU, and I'm talking to YOU. Don't pretend to be someone you aren't.

To me this is less about AI vs Human, it's just the fact the friend isn't being genuine.

No, the creator has been paid for the sponsorship beforehand. If you were never going to get the products that are sponsored then there's no difference between skipping it or letting it play and ignoring it.

I mean yeah, youtube does track the times in videos people do watch and are engaged in, but by skimming through almost any video you can see many people skip around and don't actually watch the full videos.

Sponsorblock just saves me from manually skipping past the sponsorships. I was never going to buy a shilled product to begin with anyway. I buy things based on my own research, not what a youtuber says I should buy.

As much as omegle was a cesspit, there are already even sketchier alternatives up and running. This will be a wild goose chase with no end in sight unless sites like this get rid of all privacy and log every single interaction and step up their moderation.

Like piracy sites and other illegal/grey areas, take one source down and two more will appear, or however the saying goes.

Yes this. It's great that a national news source is embracing the fediverse. This is their instance for those who haven't seen it.

It's an experiment set for 6 months, but the more people who support it the more likely it will become permanent.

Vivaldi is a better brave. You get built in ad blocking and tracking prevention along with not having built in crypto

ahaha one of the best uses of sweet bro and hella jeff i've seen. got a huge nostalgia hit from this lol

RIP

Nothing is going to change if all the companies violating rights and stuff keep getting just a slap on the wrist. Yeah, 368 million is a lot, but it's pocket change when considering tiktok brings in over 9 billion revenue a year.

Yeah. When I was trying to find a kbin instance to join I'd go to the different ones, read the FAQ, privacy policy, terms of service, and made an educated decision after finding one that I thought was good, and I am not disappointed with my choice. A directory would be nice but a few extra clicks to find out the same information with more detail is worth it imo

Yeah, stuff like crossposting is one thing. People do it across communities and subreddits, so may as well post stuff on both sites so you can get inputs from both userbases.

But the automatic copying stuff is too much. I blocked the lemmit bot almost as soon as it showed up because it became almost impossible to not see content that was being copied over by it.

Reminder to get Indie Wiki Buddy to automatically be redirected to ad-free versions of fandom wikis or to be redirected to actual genuine wikis, for example, TF2 Fandom Wikis get redirected to the official TF2 Wiki.

My guess is the more casual nature of the communication going on. It's less formal than putting in the effort of creating a published work like an article or video. Here you can just put the words in a box and hit go, your content is on the internet. Articles and videos require more time and effort to put together, so it would make sense to me for those to appear more formal, even if the content isn't the most serious.

Personally, if it's good content I don't mind a little self promotion. People won't see what you made if you don't share it. Just don't post it to dozens of communities, that's when it gets way too spammy. Find one or two you think it would a good fit for and users would find relevant and share it there, as long as that community doesn't have any rules against promoting your own content.

Should be using AdNauseam by default imo. Based on uBlock but also clicks on every ad to cost advertisers money for wasted clicks.

IMO if sites want to take a "free speech" approach without allowing bigots, maybe they should adopt the Canadian law. We don't have free speech, we have what's known as "freedom of expression". Essentially, we can say whatever unless it's hate speech or bigoted.

Yeah, Canada has censorship, but it's essentially just to censor racist idiots and homophobic fools.

Dirt and worms for dinner 🤤

This site is so good. Was going to post it if it wasn't already. Def my go to rom/iso site

I switched to Vivaldi a couple months ago, and previously used brave in the past before growing to dislike it. It surprises me how many brave-heads ignore Vivaldi's existence. It's just a better Brave. No crypto BS and lots of poweruser features.

I pay for YouTube premium family as much as I hate doing it, mainly because of my step daughter. It's not easy to block YouTube ads on Roku, and my wife and I weren't a fan of the ads they would be showing before videos we would put on. She travels to her dad's place often so I have the family plan so no matter where she is she won't have to deal with ads.

Rather not be raising a child messed up by advertisements telling her what to think. When she gets a bit older and can understand what advertisements are I'll finally cancel, but she's very young and impressionable.

If amazon was solely a marketplace they may have an argument but seeing as they're arguing the content moderation and targeted advertising to kids, they seem to be forgetting they own twitch, a very large online platform that serves ads out the ass

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. It's been great having a rolling release distro that I don't have to worry about breaking with updates

I'd like to recommend this video by a retired Microsoft OS engineer about how LLMs like ChatGPT and Bard work. It has lots of technical mumbo jumbo, but Dave tries to explain it in simpler terms.

If you're using the official F-Droid app, I recommend you check out Droid-ify. It's more modern looking and faster, and along with the F-Droid repositories, it comes with the IzzyOnDroid repo preinstalled.

Rewards? Oh yeah, less money in my pocket and price increases every few months? Sounds way more convenient than ublock and revanced. Rather pay with my money for an ad-free experience and line the pockets of a rich corporation. My time is too valuable to compile revanced once every few weeks!

I kinda assumed this was the case, and some higher ups likely know this too. I know in Ontario, when you get fingerprinted by the police, it's not just your fingers, they'll take your whole palm print. Billions of people in the world, very unlikely anyone is 100% unique.

Fediverse.observer is a good resource for sorting through and finding different instances for all types of activitypub platforms. There are pages for Lemmy and Kbin among plenty of others. That's how I found the instance I'm currently on, and I'm pretty happy with it.

At this point, the best thing would just to move to an instance using mbin, a fork created by many devs who contributed to and wanted to improve kbin but were upset at lack of progress. With Ernest's many absences all the improvements weren't being merged. Many instances using the name kbin, such as the one I'm on, have switched to mbin long ago and have many of the features and fixes that have been requested and long waited for.

Meanwhile in Canada it's being recommended to disable emergency SOS on both iPhones and Androids because of how many false 911 calls they end up placing, causing first responders to waste time on non-emergencies.

Quit playing the numbers game. It's all irrelevant. Those numbers are there to go up, give you that dopamine, and get you addicted. Yeah, it's hard, but once you keep reminding yourself that most social media is designed to be addictive and is genuinely detrimental to mental health, you will begin to stop caring.
