You’re not wrong. According to the current scientific understanding of the universe, that’s exactly what it is. They just gave it a badass name.

What an incoherent mess of an article.

I hope The Satanic Temple comes in and forces a display of their tenets in every single classroom as well. The GOP is such a disgrace. It’s the first amendment FFS; and I know they’ve read it because they’re all crazy about the second one and won’t shut up about it.

Damn that’s crazy. When I was just out of college I built the touchscreen web app that promoted this thing in the lobby of UCAR. Looks like it’s still running for now: https://hpctv.ucar.edu

You should check out Plexamp while you bridge the gap. It has tidal support built in, and you can self-host your own collection as you build it up. Then when you’re done with tidal, you don’t have to learn or download a new app.

I don’t know but we can see you over here from .world 👋

I think I’d prefer if they didn’t, tbh. I really enjoy seeing the actors transform into the character they’re portraying without looking exactly like them. I understand the appeal of immersion, but it would kind of rob the film of having its own character.

Aren’t they all still WebKit under the hood though? Until they allow other web engines this is still just the illusion of choice.

For those that aren’t yet aware: the trade off with the technology behind eliminating bot-detection here comes with a huge compromise. That trade off is that Big Tech companies need to basically certify that your device is capable and valid in order to access a website. “They” can decide at any moment to deny you access to sites that you request, which is a massive detriment to the free and open web. It’s one step below a censored internet and it’s already started rolling out in Safari.

The author obviously thought the value was worth it when he made the purchase. Now he’s sad that others think it’s worth less than he paid? So for him the perceived value of his purchase is based on what other people think, which is pretty sad. Then he does this self-depreciating write up about the experience, calling himself a fool.

Spend your money how you want, but don’t let other people’s opinions determine how you feel about it. You’ll get no sympathy from me, bud.

Oh you mean Loab?

Since they would be predators, their eyes would be positioned on the front of their skulls instead of the sides for better stereoscopic vision, and they would likely have sharp incisor teeth. Those 2 things alone are pretty creepy.

I thought it fit.

Rap Artist Breaks 20 Year Silence To Take on the Medical Industrial Complex

Sounds more oniony to me than 90% of the things posted recently.

Rockstar should absolutely just hire this kid as a whitehat instead.

Paywalled article.

can people just be reasonable?

Not when there are pearls to be clutched.

Thanks! It was a Python backend that the data science team at UCAR built and a Vue.js front end.

I was a heavy user for years and it helped suppress dreams a lot while I was using. At the time I also had an early morning college course. When I would come back from that class and pass back out, I was able to consistently trigger lucid dreams like clockwork, which was awesome.

When I quit smoking, I had insane, cinematic dreams for probably about 3 weeks before my normal REM cycle returned.

And you don’t have to pay to remove ads because there are none. I have 2 Kobos and I love them

If an internet giant like Cloudflare has already implemented and adopted this, there won’t be a lot that individual web developers can do unless this gets shot down as anti-competitive behavior (which it is). The alternative is not using CDNs and paying for servers and storage to self-host content, which will be prohibitively expensive for smaller businesses or individual hobbyists.

Caravaggio - an absolute master of contrast and light. He manages to balance a painterly hand with realism in such a pleasing way. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing some of his works in person, and they’re all just so impossibly smooth and polished.

The view-state sync feature and all the social stuff is def opt-in though. Of course they made it super easy to do the opt-in, they want to push that feature, but I remember I did have to actively choose both of those things after the update.

Obviously I don’t really want my “friends” getting weekly emails about what I’m watching, but I don’t know — If I were self-hosting my own porn, maybe I’d take 5 extra seconds to read the screen that says stuff about sharing activity.

Can you list some of the devices you do use? I’m getting into Home Automation and could use some recommendations.

I’ve been using deemix, and for the most part it’s been pretty seamless. Stuff direct downloads instantly, but it’s all in 128kbps now unfortunately. Then I have lidarr monitor everything for a lossless version.

Lucky - I’m just browsing on my generic-brand hypercube.

Should be the same across any instance.

Think of it not in terms of revenue percentages, but by payouts per song stream:

Service Payout/song Plays to make $1
Tidal Music $0.01284 78
Apple Music $0.008 125
Amazon Music $0.00402 249
Spotify $0.00318 314
YouTube Music $0.002 500
Pandora $0.00133 752
Deezer $0.0011 909

So song for song, Apple is paying 2.5x what Spotify is (.008/.00318), and Tidal is paying out a whopping 4x what Spotify pays.

Google’s own Shaka sdk (video playback with ads) gives ad markers in the initial video manifest so that they can be marked on the timeline, so hopefully it’ll be trivial. Usually (but not always) with SSAI, the ads are spliced into the stream just before being sent to the client. That way if a user has just recently watched an ad pod, the server can choose to ignore that marker for a better UX in hopes that they don’t bounce if ads are too frequent.

Sure. Obviously it’s more complex than that, but it helps illustrate where the math came from in the parent comment. I don’t know why Tidal pays more, but I’m hypothesizing its because most of their “co-owners” of Tidal are themselves, artists/musicians, which IMO is significantly better than the out of touch folks running Spotify.

Great list - thank you. The one thing I’ve been unable to find a fully self-hosted solution for is security cameras (indoor/outdoor). Any reccs on that hardware?

I did read it - what I meant is that I think the author of the article was mistaken.

Can I ask you why you think this would be a good thing? Do you think the government should be able to enforce the values of a single religion with tax dollars?

Edit: oh it’s a troll account. Probably should’ve guessed.

https://watch.plex.tv/live-tv

has tons of free tv-like channels with a slew of content. Plus you can self-host your own media on there for free too if you that’s your thing.

Yeah I’m on the free plan which used to include FLAC and 320kpbs, but they stopped doing that for free plans about a year ago I think.

I run both side-by-side, but for me Plex is still the clear winner right now for features and polish.

As nitefox said already, you can start the steam deck on desktop mode and it’s already running Linux with KDE. My first thought when I read your post was also that Steam Deck could be exactly what you need. Plus they just refreshed it with better thermals, battery life, and display. A usb c dock would get you a pretty decent dev machine on a budget. Plus it’s great for retro gaming.

Has anybody here used this? I’m intrigued.
