He really is running low on soldiers, isn't he?

Yes, it's inconvenient but how is your future SO going to meet you if stay at home? She's probably unsocial like you but you could still meet her family or friends by dating eventually leading to her.

Of course you could try your luck staying online too but I'd suggest something else than niche platforms where tech enthusiasts are overrepresented like the Fediverse.

Hey now, it was carefully designed and thoroughly trained on Tinder dickpics

Don't let selection bias put you off. These stories are filtered by "worst date" and then you'll basically only read the top ten over the top versions of those.

I guess most dates are around "fine" to "meh" and not traumatizing.

I disagree. Scaled down to small and harmless it's like handling kids. You explain what you don't want them to do and what happens/you're going to do if they continue. Now it's crucial you go through with what you threatened them with.

If you either don't deliver on the "threat" or don't act as you said you would, guess what happens? They just continue or it even gets worse.

Of course it's more delicate/difficult when handling with powerful and intelligent adults but it's at least similar. Not issuing threats is just not communicating. If you then just act (violently), things are more likely to escalate.

Edit: or back to the kids analogy: don't tell them anything but smack them once they went too far: may help in that instance but they'll just learn to better avoid you and do shit behind your back.

I had never eaten vegan food

Really? You've never eaten just fries?

Good for you dodging that crazy bullet though.

And we absolutely wanted to shoot the tester who gave us this use case.

Why? Because he tested well and broke the software? A user changing their mind during a guided activity absolutely is a valid use case.

I disagree. Git is great but we'd have done fine with Subversion or whatever. Could you imagine the whole internet running on Windows Server though? The thought alone makes my skin crawl.

The test stand is only about 5 km away from the city's downtown and less than a kilometer from a smaller village.

I'm so happy to be out of the dating phase of my life. I wouldn't stand a chance with my tinfoil hat settings like deactivated recommendations, ad- and js-blocking and auto-deleting all cookies when closing a tab.

Now leave your phone on the table and let's see how long it takes then.

There's a German saying about that: "Ich hab schon Pferde kotzen sehen" (I've seen horses vomit) implying you've seen everything, even the impossible.

I feel bad for the children in this picture.

Absolutely. Me too.

Personally I think this is child abuse. Forcing politics / religion on children should be fucking illegal.

That's hard though. The kids obviously have fun, it's a game for them.

So what's the abuse? Them giving the finger? Come on... Them unknowingly giving a (wrong?) political message? Yeah, we all know where that would lead to.

Onfuscators probably use it though, so no spec ever will be able to get rid of this crap.

Why should we care? So address space may run out eventually - that's our ISPs' problem.

Other than that I actually don't like every device to have a globally unique address - makes tracking even easier than fingerprinting.

That's also why my VPN provider recommends to disable IPv6 since they don't support it.

I generally don't get people like that. Starting a conversation with a stranger about polarizing topics like politics or religion is just high risk low benefit gamble.

They always seem to force alternative routes regardless whether there are any.

I regularly see "alternatives" which are just taking a turn, doing a 180 in a roundabout and reentering the same route as before. Because why wouldn't I just waste 10 mins just for fun?

Calls are fine but I get irrationally annoyed about voice messages. I hate those!

Calls are still acceptable in most settings (and easily blocked if not) but I won't turn on my speakers with strangers around.

I hate that how-to questions often are answered by some shitty YouTube video for the same reason (but even when alone I won't watch your crappy 10 min video for something that could literally be answered by a single sentence).

I just had a look myself after your comment and cannot confirm your claim at all. There are, understandably, quite a few posts about this debacle and the future of their sub but more than half is stuff related to veganism not related to cats.

It won't on... wait for it... Linux!

Of course there's some legitimate use case to it. Just like every privacy rights undermining bill helps "the children". Doesn't mean that's the only or even the main goal.
