The only reason people are commenting so much on posts is due to how long they stay on the front page. 24 hours is plenty of time for a complete discussion. I agree that reddit aged stuff a bit to fast but I suppose they had to due to the large volume of content being posted.

I just tried doing that with power delete suite but I didnt have it remove the comments just edited them with this "I deleted my reddit account and all my comments and posts but reddit has decided to undelete my account and comments so I have decided to let people know. Fuck this stupid site"

I do but even on my subscribed front page all the posts are mostly ones I've already seen. It would be kind of cool if we could customize our own front page to control the age of posts that show up I feel

It is a bug, when scrolling your top posts, you are not supposed to see new posts as well its supposed to be only top posts.

The issue is explaining it to them like that, just tell them the instance that you use or is the most popular one that is not shit, and when they go to the site, they will see the sign up button and they can join and learn from there. After joining an instance you can mostly use lemmy the same way as reddit, I already got my brother and gf to join and they are about as "normie" as it gets.
