It’s funny how the solutions for the failures of capitalism often end up looking just like socialism

As other people have pointed out, big companies target an area and set about establishing a monopoly using $$$

Then they realise “huh. There’s not so much profit here in Assfuck, Montana after all.” And make some lame excuse (theft) to pull out.

Citizens get fucked because : capitalism.

I feel like some people in this thread are overlooking the tongue in cheek nature of this humour post and taking it weirdly personally

My god, this is a masterful piece of writing.

“Make the situation more of a commitment”

Amazing.

I actually stopped my subscription to Wired recently because the damn site never recognises me and login does not seem to support autofill or biometrics. Really pissed me off.

Anyway, the gist of this article is the companies are spending money on building AI and sacking people to save that money

I know, I snorted at that. Oh, shit we’re losing money because we pursued endless growth instead of the UX for customers….quick, uhhh….AI!

Best. Sauce. Ever.

First the blatantly incorrect assertion. Then the clueless fumbling to justify it. Now the generic ad hominem attacks.

This is better than a movie… what’s next?

Yeah, no shit

100% I did pay for the premium version of Apollo and I absolutely would have paid about £20 a month for access.

It was the #1 most used app on all my devices.

Ok, so it’s a politics thing?

Didn’t this come from Jay Pinkerton’s old site? I thought this comic had vanished from the internet..

It took about a year to make a difference for me.

I guess they call it mindfulness practice for a reason

11+ years here, all on mobile (Reddit Pics was my first app.)

Apollo WAS Reddit for me. I loathe the Reddit app and refuse to use it. Would happily have paid a monthly fee or whatever. I spent unhealthy amounts of time on Reddit.

Not been back since Apollo shut down. This is my home now.

Dude, my youngest had febrile seizures (she called it “the fast thing” and was scared of it.)

Watching her blink out of reality into…somewhere else for a few seconds at a time was fucking horrible.

I feel you.

Not now perhaps, but then it was. To me. I’d not pay them a farthing now.

Oof. Sorry man.

Holy shit, thanks for that

This is a great answer, thanks!

Ok this makes sense. So they’re committed to Israel and don’t have much choice?

This is actually a thing. Worked in Apple Stores for years and saw laptops and phones full of rice. Whole grains and bits n bobs.

So before the rice you could actually do a modular repair sometimes. Swap out the battery or SSD.

Whole thing full of rice bits attached to every component? Forget it.

Also, once a device is liquid damaged, often rice will resurrect it but only until the logic board rusts through / goes dry. Copper oxidises over time.

On the other hand, if you can’t afford a repair or swap out, (contrary to popular opinion, Apple sell replacement devices through their service channel way cheaper than new units) rice might give your device a new lease of life. So sometimes worth the gamble.

Edit: missed the D off SSD which kind of changed the context!

What an amazing read.

How does the secrets to Russia thing come in?

Ok this is an amazing analogy, thank you.

Wow, that was a considered and interesting contribution. I learned a lot there.

Much of the North and Wales are still not very diverse Part of what you were experiencing is the fact that you really do stand out.

Bristol is not so very far away from you, and it’s a very cosmopolitan city… No one there will give a fuck I do assure you.

That’s a great point!
