WTF did I just read.

Just kill it please, People will be much better off on the Fediverse both mentally and to get away from bigots like Musk.

I'm guessing this is because of more sales of the Steam Deck, haven't got myself one yet but I'd love to as everyone that has gotten ones has said it's worth the money as well as is a great way to get through your games on the go.

Yeah this is one of the reasons I've been slowly moving my gaming time over to Steam as they very rarely do stuff like this and if they delist the game, if you've already purchased the game you can still play it 99.99% of time. Sad to see Playstation go down this route.

@souma It's one thing that I am trying to fix on my part where I try to make a few posts a day and interact with as many people as possible in my spare time. I do hope that over time, especially when places like Reddit screw people over, people will start to move across to the Fediverse and enjoy their time on here and stick around.

@rip_art_bell Yes I have Fibromyalgia and not many people know about how that works.

That's not good, especially as they wanted to join the Fediverse in the future.

Kbin / Mbin actually fixed this by allowing if a Community isn't managed for 3 months by mods then it will be available for people to claim to admin. This allows people to keep the Community going and hopefully blow some life into it.

@Cloudkid It's something that we almost had a soft test when Reddit went downhill a few months back, if users do scale across different instances the load is lifted the main problem you would have is if Reddit goes down and all the users go to one instance such as Lemmy.world or Lemmy.ml as it would certainly make the Fediverse look bad and crash the servers.

The Server space is already a problem for platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Reddit but they control it by ads and payments from users such as YouTube Premium on YouTube. Main Instances of each platform may have to take up the Ads system if donations don't come in or it may have to become easier for users to create their own website. I read a good article earlier today about how there are issues for the Fediverse in the short term but it seems promising if they get solved.

@asterfield Your thoughts, feelings and first born child.

Sadly purchasing a phyical copy still will mean you can't play it due to the required download for most consoles these days.

Shows really how far it has fallen.

A lot of people have jobs doing creative work like YouTube, even before the age of YouTube people where creating stuff such as TV Shows, Radio and Movies (Legacy Media). Sure a lot of people would still create something in free time but the reason people create quality content on places like YouTube is because they are being paid as a bonus, otherwise they wouldn't be able to spend as much time on the content they create.

Seems like he is going ahead with the X "The Everything App" idea. I'm glad I use parts of the Fediverse and hope to build my own instance at some stage as I really don't want people like Musk owning my data let alone charge me for it and control my money.

@Slow It's most likely due to they rather delete there files before they think "Oh, I can just release this on GitHub or something Publicly for people to use my code" or due to being apart of a company that is very protective of its property or it's due to feeling they may come back to the project in the future and improve it.

God no, they want to breed

@GreyTechnician A good amount of subs on Reddit seem to stop users from posting unless they have higher Karma, I would more suggest to find smaller subs that might allow you to post on as that could get you going with Karma. But yes they do sort of censor people

I've got like 2 years without reading stuff like that lol

I'm glad I have slowly moved away from Reddit, hope we get some sort of Fedi recap stuff in the future as is a really cool idea but glad we don't get forced to use Apps and stuff.

That's cool, just wish it done more than just Mastodon

Hopefully something as good as E3 comes about in the future as it's sad to see the gaming community have one less thing to be exited for.

@spaduf That's really nice, I actually use Obsidian myself for note taking and I can say that I will never go back to normal note taking software. The internet and software needs to change to be for the user, for if the software doesn't exist in the future. We never know if a service will go but we shouldn't loose everything.

Yeah I think the only way 'creators' will be there is if there is something to move across these larger ones, or at least makes sense to cross-post between YouTube and PeerTube. It's going to be a hard battle to fight especially with PeerTube limited Space on most instances.

Even know I wish to see PeerTube grow especially with people at minimum cross-posting, without a way for instances to find content easily without having to know about the creator before hand discoverability will be shockingly bad. Along with this decentralised platforms need to get easier for people to create themselves, as most people who know a bit about computers still don't know the first step of creating a PeerTube or other Fediverse Instance (I'd love to run my own Instances in the future).

PeerTube is a really great idea but without some way of people finding the content and or having more space to upload that content (As most PeerTube Instances have like a 5GB limit) then it sadly won't get there.

And this alternative will not be able to go away easily as Decentralisation allows anyone to run an instance.

@BradleyUffner It's one of the downsides I've seen, it seems like some people choose to post the same thing on 3+ communities of the same topic and it really just gets annoying sometimes.

General week has been alright, news not so good between the UK government going after Trans people again as well as the Internet being a bad place to be publicly out I'd say that's the bad side of things.

And the only other way that a bigger platform would grow is by ads being displayed on the Instance that brings you back to square one.

From what I've seen of the Steam Deck there's not far that it can go to improve as of the moment but in the next 10 years there's going to be needing another one as newer games like GTA 6 and stuff come around and eventually be on PC the tech is going to really show it's age.

@asterfield yeah sure.

@GreyTechnician I don't think Lemmy is really interested in that sort of thing or at least not the Karma stuff as it really get's toxic quick between users. If you like the idea of Karma there's Kbin / Mbin instances that have reputation that is the same thing.

When it comes to bots though there's not much you can do other than tell the admin of the instance to block them out. If they are running on another instance such as I'm on the Kbin.run instance then the admin can straight block that whole instance if it's just full of bots. So really it can only be sorted with moderation.

Yeah and I'm not going to stop using my instance I love it to much, Maybe I will boot up my own personal one if anything. Just glad more people will hopefully understand and can use the Fediverse

It depends on the film, film (the tape) is expensive to be able to record on and some Directors prefer recording on it. But most smaller filmmakers go digital due to budget as well as the ability to edit it easier.

It just puts smaller creators into a part that they won't be able to upload and that's the great thing about YouTube or most other Video Platforms is anyone can create. If the only people that can release content are the Elites then how will they be replaced in the future when they get burnt out, die or just want to move on?

2 more...

Probably the type of content, do you have a platform you prefer using as there are most likely Fediverse alternatives to them.

@xkforce Yeah we has some really good pros, hopefully we get larger over time as I know if we had even 10% of the content that Reddit has we would have so many more people want to use the Fediverse rather than Reddit.

I've never really seen any gatekeeping on here, is it certain communities? if it is then people can just create another sub with the same name on another instance lol

1 more...

That's what I'm saying, someone already has to follow, you are then relying on the other people on your instance. It's one of the downsides of the Fediverse in general but it's made even worse with Video as video takes up a lot of space making each instance has limitations on the users stopping them from releasing so many videos.

Like Imagine if someone like Casey Neistat was still releasing daily videos but they where limited due to the possible instance they where using it would suck as it would stop them from uploading there latest video. Hopefully this gets solved in the future with better storage solutions but still it costs a lot to host Video files and that's why most people go to YouTube over anywhere else ATM.

I would love to see PeerTube as well as other Fediverse Video platforms to grow, it's just quite hard for it to grow unless each instance has easily over 100GB per user that uploads.

My old laptop can only do basic browsing, not quite as bad as a chrome book but slowing over the past 2 year, my new one is a gaming one and will allow me to create video edits easily, also is loads better than my Desktop that I do most things on, including edits at the moment. (The new one has a 3050 in it)

As of the moment I use Wordpress for my website but it's not the best for the Fediverse at the moment and a lot of work needs to be put into it to allow posting across the whole Fediverse as I can't access my posts on Kbin / Mbin what sucks. I really think that POSSE / The Fediverse is the next step for the Internet and I can't wait to be able to handle my own data more closely to the point I'm looking into hosting my own server in my home for all the Videos, Posts and Data that I know I will love to put out there.

Thank you for sharing that amazing Article.
