The removal of borders on buttons. I don't know how many times I've been using a piece of software and haven't realized for a long while that some icon is actually a clickable thing and not just some UI decoration or something.

The removal of text in favor of icons. I hate having to memorize what all your icons mean in your app. Please just make text unless it's something insanely obvious. It's even worse when they neglect to put tool tips to tell you what the icon is supposed to mean

When he took over twitter there was a bunch of stuff he was spouting about things like Twitter's stack needing a full rewrite and such. Going so far as to fire the engineer that challenged him on it during a live spaces thing if I recall correctly.

Ah, so she's more of an animal crackers girl. Where's my Aerosmith tapes.

Mathias Wandel on YouTube made some good videos a few years ago about maximizing airflow through a house with fans. One big finding was that rather than having a fan directly in a window or door pointing out it is actually best to have it a few meters away and directed at the opening. That allows the fan's airstream pull in and start moving much more air in the room out the opening. He used strips of paper hanging in doorways around the house and also I think took anemometer readings to get good measures of the airflow.

I think the general theory is to run the fans starting in the evening once the air temp outside is lower than inside, then close up the house in the morning to trap the cool overnight air?

https://youtu.be/1L2ef1CP-yw?si=aLTlAMKv_3p3ri2q I think he may have made multiple videos on the topic

How did you find crowdstrikes test plan?

That one I always assumed meant to just get your ass out on the dance floor. Not any specific form of dancing

I just hate how companies cling to agile like it's some kind of cult. Like a company I know gave all the employees very nice swag embroidered with a big "agile development" slogan on it like your development methodology is supposed to be a source of pride or something. Of course like most companies they don't really follow agile practice very much except where they can use it as an excuse to skimp on requirements and such.

The front fell off, that's not very typical.

December from '22 not '23. The image was from a few months after he took over twitter and was still going on about that stuff and how it was doing all these useless things that needed to be removed or rewritten. I just remembered another one about how he was going on about a single request to twitter causing thousands of RPCs or something? I think that's not really unheard of in a microservices infrastructure and it's not like they'd be synchronous. There's probably tons of calls that go to things like tracking, analytics, or cross DC sharing I would imagine for such a large and high volume service like twitter.

Hmm haven't seen that yet personally but I'm sure YouTube is always trying things to get around adblockers and probably A/B testing it on various accounts or countries. You could try making sure unlocks rules/definitions are up to date.

Unrelated but I also have been using sponsor block which skips over in-video sponsors which is nice. Though it's community updated so very new videos might not have the sponsor segments marked yet.

Just wait until you find out about news groups 🤯

He's also been going on about all kinds of conspiracy theories, appearing on foxnews, speaking at CPAC, etc. Other than the Kennedy name he doesn't seem appealing to Democrats at all as far as I can tell. Also his own siblings have spoken out against him.

Damn draculas

It lets the other person know you are up and available for chatting in case there was anything they want/need a quick response to.

Haha I thought that birdy was standing on a cyber truck stranded at sea for a minute

They did make the leaf plus that has decent range with the same formfactor though. Also I'm quite sure the batteries are not in the trunk, unless that's where they put the extras in the plus version or something? Our 2015 leaf had significantly more trunk space than our brand new bolt despite being of similar dimensions. The bolt does have better rear leg room though.

The main issues with the leaf stem from not having any active heating/cooling for the battery and using an uncommon plug for level 3 charging that is going the way of the dodo. If you live in a temporate climate and don't need to fast charge for road trips the leaf is a totally acceptable car IMO.

Stone cold classic

If the reaction of the kids who come to my door is any indication the best is ring pops. You can sometimes hear kids shouting to other ones down the street "hey, this place has ring pops!"

Worst: those molasses toffees with the orange/white/black wrapper

I've seen some produce with a sticker showing PLU and a barcode. Is the barcode in that case just an encoding of the PLU or something grower specific?

This doesn't really answer your question but it reminded me of the following that I think is somewhat relevant.

I was listening to a podcast several years ago that was discussing a study that was done about the effects of gendered words in various languages. It was rather interesting. They did things like showed people a picture of a bridge and asked them to describe it. In languages that used a masculine gender for 'bridge' it was generally described in ways that highlighted features such as strength, solidness, etc. And for languages that used a feminine gender it tended to be described more artistically, talking about it's grace or curves etc. If I remember correctly, they even studied people fluent in both languages and the answers would vary along those same lines depending which language they were asked/responded in.

It's a goodun but I'd nip off those sharp bits up at the top for ease of handling

When I was strugging with motivation in getting out to go for a run or whatever I found "Just do it" to be fairly effective. Only later realizing I was lifting the Nike slogan. Still, it works for me.

Behind the curve, on Netflix I think

This is verrry niche but Live from Moosejaw is what looks to be a YouTube comedy series that's just starting up about a long time local hockey broadcaster who gets saddled with a big city equivalent on his talk show. I enjoyed the teasers/setup they were showing before today's premiere episode https://youtube.com/@LivefromMooseJaw?si=BvgpECdEEltcKlY4

Hmm now someone needs to mop up the gooey white spiderslime

Here in Canada at least they have both at the moment. You can use the drive thru as usual or order through the app and give them a code at the drive thru or just park in a numbered spot and have them bring it out to you without ever talking to someone

Criminal that his channel doesn't have more subs

Yeah torn down for SkyTrain expansion wasn't it?

Surreal to see the Gastown steam clock in a meme

Newsgroups go over an encrypted connection so no need to mess with VPNs and torrent boxes etc. subscribe to one or two nzb sites, a news group host and wire it up with somarr locally.

I think they are actually molasses flavoured toffee if it's the ones I'm thinking of. Always left to the very last, only to be consumed in the more dire of candy draughts

Good domekeeper joke ;)
