I think you probably need some professional help, and also I think the way you look at social media is very different from how others look at social media.

Reddit isn’t Wikipedia or any type of online encyclopedia. It’s social media. It’s Twitter, it’s Facebook, it’s TikTok, etc

I think it might be time to advocate for individual ownership of our own ‘data’

I don’t see any good reason why our data isn’t protected under law and any attempt to monetize should be done through contracts to each person who’s data is being used and payments made to those people

Back in my day, we used to call ‘prompt engineering’ ‘asking a question’.

A lot of those people are here too, trying to recreate that outrage machine

There are a ton of bots here too. I think most posts are made by bots anyway

The internet kind sucks, honestly. Can’t really believe anything you see is an actual person

I don’t think anyone cares that she’s fat, but it sounds like she lied about her weight in a situation where it was important to tell the truth.

Your argument is like saying it’s insensitive to people with addiction issues if a cop pulls over an alcoholic and asks if he’s had anything to drink and he says ‘nope’

It’s a safety issue, it’s not bigotry

Fuck employers, everything is TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE

I’m getting tired of Musk, left wing news stories and left wing memes myself

I’ll join these communities simply because lemmy seems so one dimensional looking through my feed.

If there is non-political content here, I’d appreciate it being brought more to the front, at least for my own feed.

I’m hoping for more diverse topics than what seems to hit all day after day. To the point where I’m usually not even logging in as often as I could be.

The topics are boring, one sided and just … lame

It’s pretty confusing

“UHD features a 16:9 aspect ratio and is twice the resolution of full HD. In other words, two times 1080p, two times 1920 x 1080 pixels, that is 3840 x 2160 pixels. Having the same 16:9 aspect ratio means it is backward compatible with other HD derivates. However, both 4K and UHD can be shortened to 2160p to match the HD standard and therefore, companies use the terms interchangeably.”

“If you think 4K and UHD are one and the same, I don’t blame you. I blame the companies that LOVE to use them interchangeably all the time. You pick up a Blu-Ray movie disc of a 4K movie and you will most definitely see an Ultra HD label on it. 4K is actually not a consumer display and broadcast standard but UHD is. 4K displays are used in professional production and digital cinemas and feature 4096 x 2160 pixels”

Don’t lie, that’s bad advice. Instead, be honest just like you been here.

Tell them “I’ve owned my own business for the last several years, but covid hit me pretty hard. I haven’t had a manager that I’m still in contact with prior to those years”

Shouldn’t trust Twitter users either, they’ll take an out of context joke you made back in 2011 and ruin your life over it.

Honestly, just fuck talking to people online. Literal no good will ever come of it. I’m just gonna stop communicating with people.

This shit is so dumb, no upside, only downsides

Very large discords don’t work for chatting.

Discords with 100-300 people with around 20-30% active and 15% very active with 20% popping in occasionally for an hour or two and the rest just lurking seems like a good sweet spot for discord servers

I always held out hope that Musk was going to be the one to destroy Twitter. I’m still hoping that’s his ultimate goal.

To buy Twitter just to destroy that cesspool and Musk will always be the hero we needed

“Maybe she experienced it differently”

  • Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada and self proclaimed male feminist

one Saturday afternoon….

relieved, he arrived early and was a very dedicated employee

This kind of writing is how people write fiction. Next time, try to loosen it up a bit. People don’t tell stories that happened to them like this

I couldn’t agree more. These platforms have become toxic wastelands. Let them die and let the people create new and better communities

This doesn’t seem like something you want to meta game

Maybe on you’re 3rd or 4th play through? But not at launch. This is a legit RPG

This is incredibly descriptive for a story told to you as a deathbed confession.

I agree so much.

I love discussing things with people who think differently than I do, that’s how we learn. We should be able to disagree in a civil way and exchange ideas and understand each other and eventually agree to disagree.

But we can’t.

Online it’s either one extreme or the other.

When is someone going to have the balls to create a place where people can argue and talk shit out? Or is that just too mature for the kids online these days who cannot handle a disagreement?

Maybe there should be online discussions that are age restricted. No teenagers, 30+ adults only. I wonder if that would be better or worse

As a new user, I kind of can’t get over the idea that bots just seem to scrape links and repost them here.

That seems to be most of the contributions to communities to me.

In my memory, the first time I heard this idea was back in 1995 with the book “Angels Don’t Play This HAARP”

Do you think he could just … twist the ends of the X a little bit to distinguish it?

Kind of like a swastika?

This is something people on the right just find absolutely ridiculous. No one. NO ONE, think LGBT people shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

This is a big part of the problem, another response to my comment said people who think like I do support genocide.

Like this just sounds so hyperbolic and absolutely laughably ridiculous that no one has the patience to put up with it. It’s not a discussion.

You think I want an entire group of people to not exist. You have been taught this from somewhere and it’s not true. But you’ll never realize that.

So what’s the point?

Online discourse has gotten to the point that if you disagree, you’re hateful

Hate is a meaningless word now, like so many over used words in this climate

Can someone eli5 what’s going on with this?

I still sign up for websites with the following credentials:

I’ve had people in this thread say that I advocate for genocide.

I don’t think the right are the ones watering down the language

Non-human intelligence has been around on earth for a very long time and the government knows a lot more about them than they would have us believe

There are way too many memes and that weird 196 community on my hot feed

I’ve blocked the communities I don’t want to see on Memmy but they keep showing up

I’d just like to be able to block bot posts

Well that’s the difference, most people will pirate when it’s more convenient to do so. And as long as prices are so exorbitant.

I pirate hockey games, because watching hockey is ridiculously inconvenient and/or expensive.

I do not pirate music anymore, or video games because Apple Music is more convenient and not very expensive and steam has all the games I’d ever want to play, and has enough sales that it’s not that expensive either.

I don’t pirate movies and tv shows because Netflix and Disney really cover anything I want to watch and anything else I share a crave subscription, like for Game of Thrones

But I do pirate hockey games.

Dragon quest xi is perfect for the steam deck

1920 x 2 = 3840 (4K UHD)

That’s what he’s talking about.

Decisions at that level are made for power. Sometimes money is part of that

No no, I don’t mean anyone specifically in this conversation

I was more speaking in general.

I made a Twitter account in like 2009, in order to follow breaking hockey trades and free agent signings.

Then I realized that these are all posted to hockey forums at ludicrous speed, so I just stayed on the hockey forums.

There must be people refreshing Twitter just to be first to repost stuff to other social media sites for clout. It’s part of what makes Twitter so gross.

Also, what Twitter has done to ‘journalism’ where 99/100 ‘journalistic articles’ are just writing about what the author read on Twitter that day. It’s all just so gross to me.

Sorry, I rambled. I meant to just agree that I also signed up for Twitter for a niche interest. Although I quickly dropped it again, way before all the activism took over the platform and people started losing their jobs over tweets they liked or made.

The outrage usually is outrage over perceived hate
