That's not an SUV... But yeah it looks like they backed up ONTO the curb, that's pretty rude...

This was years ago at a job I don't add to my resume.

I was the incident. I worked at a plastic bottle factory as a packer, and I had gotten this job through a friend. The 2 of us got along with the manager pretty well. Had common interests and about the same mindset about being employed there. A few positions opened up and he came to us and asked if we'd like to move up to one of them. I chose to move up to forklift operator, he chose machine operator. We both liked the jobs a lot more after that. Of course with a promotion comes a raise right?

The manager that had us promoted actually found a new job shortly after we had been trained and were starting to handle our jobs independently, he brought us into the office along with his replacement that he was currently training and told us that we were due raises and he had started the ball rolling on that. The new manager said he was informed of everything and would follow up on it to make sure we were taken care of.

3 months go by, our old manager is long gone, and we were still making the same pay. We approached the new manager about this. "I just need you to bear with me, I'm still working on that"

Ok fine whatever...3 more months go by and we don't see a dime. 6 months we've been making less than we should be now. Hell people are being hired at a higher rate than we make at this point. We confront him again. "Bear with me" he says again. I beared with him until about noon that day. I parked my forklift. I got in my car and left. All afternoon I'm getting calls and texts from people. My buddy tells me "you have no idea how many people days you just fucked up".

I gently reminded him that we were getting taken advantage of. That we've been working for a lower wage than new hires after getting a promotion for 6 months. I also spilled these beans to other coworkers texting me about what happened. It didn't take long...my buddy left mid day, 2 other machine operators left mid day. A string of packers stopped showing up, all but one daytime forklift driver either quit or walked out. They lost 10 people of varying positions in a month.

I couldn't help but grin when my buddy told me he was done and one of my coworkers told me how many people quit before they left. I felt like my walkout made a difference that time.

More of a "well we got what we could get while we could get it"

Tik tok is legitimately rotting their brains though.

No kids to take care of, but my fridge just went out today. This spoiled most of the food in the fridge as I can't pick up a new one until tomorrow, and the of a new fridge and restocking my fridge pretty much cancels Xmas gifts for the family. I feel bad every year because they get my wife and I all kinds of cool stuff and it seems like every year I'm stuck telling them, "Maybe I'll be less broke next year" Not quite the same, I know, but it still makes me feel aweful...

Meanwhile the owner of my company just bought a 5th wheel camper trailer and hitch for his truck in June because he felt like going camping, and is having a 6 bedroom house built for his son on his ranch because his sons wife is having a baby.

This world is fucked for the working class truly.

Never feel bad about asking for a raise that you work for/deserve. Stay complacent, and they'll just hope you never bring it up. Workers should have the power and leverage.

Which is ironic as fast food used to have 2 appeals - quick and cheap.

I'm not sure how quick they are these days because I can no longer afford it.

This is 100% about pinching pennies. Gotta find new ways to post those "record breaking profits" every year.

Reassigning people into jobs that they hate in hopes that they quit, to avoid paying severance packages.

We have a guy at the company I work for that just went through this. They did away with his division, reassigned him to a new department where you're on call 24/7 working holidays and weekends. He jumped ship to us, but because they didn't fire him, he got no payout because he wasn't let go.

Well, they said it was a regrettable mistake! A whoopsie! Clearly, they didn't mean to do that, so we should still support them.

Where is the red line? Have we misplaced it?

It's a vicious pinch, rent rates going up preventing you from saving while housing rates (and minimum down-payment if you want a decent monthly mortgage/interest rate) are going up at the same time. My wife and I got lucky and we own our townhouse, but half of the properties vacated in our neighborhood either through eviction or owners moving out have all been turned into rental properties owned by a corp. It's fucked up, they want noone to own anything anymore so they can get richer through obscene rent hikes every year... And we live in MD. I can't even imagine trying to survive in NY or any other big city.

TBH I feel like any social media platform, regardless of voting displays, has the potential to become a toxic environment.

I'm going to have to unsubscribe from the news community to stop seeing these stupid articles, aren't I?

Stop giving these shitwipes attention!

Free market goes to the highest bidder.

They have mastered the forgotten art of programming the VCR

I guess the best I'll be able to do is take a half day off work on the day of my funeral.

Try a fan. And this one's weird, but I have an analog clock in my room and the rhythmic ticking helps me sleep.

I don't either. I've already told the family Christmas is gonna be light. Other than what I can scrounge up, instead of the "buy now, pay later" model, I've adopted the "don't buy what i don't need, pay never" one.

Skyrocketting prices on everything means I use what i have until it is absolutely unusable/unfixable anymore. And my credit cards stay mostly clear except for emergencies.

It's a lack of self control on a lot of people's part, and financial institutions are loving it I'm sure.

It's a pickup truck. And probably not used for anything a truck would be used for. They're everywhere in America and just as annoying.

I personally don't see the point in having a vehicle this big unless it's used for work (hauling materials and towing trailers) And 95% of the time, it's not.

I'm hoping the initial backlash from cyberpunk actually registered with them. Other than that I'm also worried about what kind of story and characters they'll use considering the way the last dlc for witcher 3 ended. Not sure I'll be into Ciri based gameplay. That was my least favorite part of Witcher 3, and I don't really want them to retcon the end of blood and wine either to continue with Geralt.

While occasionally I wish I could save scum when I make a mistake, I've gotten through rough patches. I will say the performance is lacking sometimes, hopefully that will iron out in time. One save file can be a pain, but you can rebuild your character in any way you'd like throughout the game, and there is NG+. But I have 10 wake stones and 20+ ferry stones. They aren't THAT limited without buying them. This just encourages me to explore more and think about my combat a little more thoroughly. I've run the same roads over 10 times and I'll still find a new path to a seekers medallion or a cave I hadn't gone through on the 11th time. I've only used 1 wakestone and that was because I fell a half a mile and ended up somewhere I hadn't explored yet.

The game is not bad, it's just built different. GOTY? I don't know about that yet. But to be 'disappointed' that a game you didn't like is selling well is nonsense. The micros are irrelevant as far as I can see with the stockpile of those items I have, and while I don't like the idea of them being slid in there, it's not predatory like lootboxes in some games.

There is no way this is a real thought process lmao.

I'd like to thank you guys with all the YSK post explaining the little intricacies of lemmy. It's been a huge help the past few days to get situated here.

That depends on how the cops feeling. A guy I used to work with got pulled over for doing the speed limit in the left lane for "impeding traffic"

Apparently getting pregnant at 35 is considered a geriatric pregnancy, so that's what I've always considered mid life.

And the greedy outnumber us both. As long as these companies are lining politicians pockets, they will only act like they're trying.

Seeing how the banking industry runs on the inside. I work in ATM rigging. Banks operate in a state of complete chaos if you were wondering. I've never seen an industry where money wasted/lost just doesnt matter to them. Join a credit union. Seriously.

Bad Religion was one of my high-school favorites that has stayed a favorite since. I have every one of their albums saved on my phone.

Remnant 2 has been occupying most of my free time lately.

I don't doubt this given YouTube record with the creators themselves. YouTube is a slimy company.

How'd you get a picture of me getting hosed in every pvp game I've ever tried to play?

Dude was old and drove like an ass. I used to tell him he was gonna get his driver's license taken away and he was gonna have to drive the forklift home on the shoulder of the highway every day lol

I got my wife's ring on etsy. It's pearl and opal, but there are a good bit of jewlers on etsy. I would do a bit of research on the shop before you buy though.

I feel that working 50+ hours weeks just to hit 50k with the overtime. Still have to budget fairly well to save anything.

Maybe, I'll bring that up to him. But they've done this to every department. Project managers are now trying to handle way more than they should and techs are either green as grass or completely overwhelmed with work.

They actually pay us now for the services that they did away with within their own company (whatever sense that makes), so he basically has the same job, just with us. We work with this company closely so we knew him pretty well already and honestly we were happy to bring him on. No training required lol I think he just wanted to get out before his life got turned upside down.

"Best I'll be able to do is work a half day on the day of my funeral"

And even then, the mandatory overtime is gonna make me late to my own damn funeral.

You probably need to pull the wick through more and trim it. Zippos should come with a long wick within it for that purpose.

Also I hope you mean butane and not gasoline lol
