I'm committed to ActivityPub. I don't really care if the specific server backend ends up being lemmy, kbin, or something new.

Extremely, that tire is going to blow at any moment. Probably the next time they hit a bump at high speed.

Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered with no.

Joke's on them, I could already browse the internet.

Denuvo is a very complex anti piracy system for games that is pretty controversial. There's a lot of evidence that it affects performance and it forces games that wouldn't otherwise need Internet to be activated online regularly.

It's the kind of thing that a reviewer would mention and that some people would use in their buying decisions. Sneaking it in after launch is going to make some people pretty mad and I'd feel used as a reviewer.

We will make sure that you can stay on the terms applicable for the version of Unity editor you are using – as long as you keep using that version.

They did that the last time they had backlash too and then quietly removed it a few years later. How on earth do they think that's something anyone will trust.

Asphalt is pretty amazing given the amount of wear it goes through. It's basically infinitely recyclable, very flexible, goes down fast, and is relatively easy to work with.

Images are hosted on their home servers, only the links and text content are federated.

That includes user and community icons/avatars.

IMO the laundry thing is an easy example of the larger issue of extreme privilege. Being able to live on a rich friend's property in the woods by a pond sounds awesome. I'm sure I would love that and it would do amazing things for my well-being. But that's just not a relatable thing for most people and it can really sour the message.

Since the headline is really ambiguous: the striking workers would like more ability to decorate for pride.

Now why would Soros donate over 80% of his net wealth to his own Charity? Think about it, it does make sense witg the current events.

Why did you write this like a conspiracy video? If you're going to write context and leading questions for discussion actually write some context please.

People have actually become more unhinged: https://www.iata.org/en/pressroom/2023-releases/2023-06-04-02/

This is probably related to NY recently changing their rules regarding civil suits for sexual assault. The same change that prompted the Trump case.

I'm sure for a 17 year old in 2003, going after someone so wealthy and powerful seemed insurmountable. But the rule change seems to be allowing some victims to finally get some form of resitution.

While that may be true in many cases, it is important to remember that straight people are perfectly capable of being hateful, homophobic monsters. Placing all the blame of LGBT hate on LGBT people, openly or not, isn't nearly the whole story.

Observation is all we have. There's no indication that anything outside the solar system is different from the things inside of it. Some stars have a light spectrum very similar to our sun, which implies they are stars in similar places in their life. Others have a light spectrum that is very different.

We can use different parallax angles to determine that some stars are much further away than others. Parallax works the same at 10 miles as it does at 10 light years.

Is there some particular observation you don't understand?

Federation is on by default on all instances. As soon as you search and subscribe to remote communities they'll start federating. So far so good on my little one user instance.

I would immediately vote for this if they managed to get it on as a ballot initiative. Voting in a democracy is a right, not a privilege.

At the moment Lemmy and Kbin federate exactly, Lemmy communities and Kbin magazines federate 1:1 with upvotes, downvotes, comments, all working as expected.

Mastodon users can follow communities and magazines as though they were users, post to them, and see replies. Although they see everything linearly. If you ever see a community post that starts by tagging the community that likely came from mastodon.

Lemmy does not currently, and may never, allow you to follow mastodon users or tags. Kbin offers a microblog view that does display mastodon content in its intended form.

Hot water radiators are designed to work with temperature deltas in the 110 degree F range (target 70 room temp, 180 water temp). In the summer your temperature deltas are much tighter, you can only get to at best 32 F before the water freezes and with a target of 70 that's only 38 degrees of temperature delta trying to cool the room. They simply won't work efficiently enough for it to be worth it, not to mention being on the floor is very poor positioning for summer.

I actually think your hypothetical smoker is a great example of the opposite. Someone who lived it, understands the struggle, and ultimately regrets their choices is exactly who you want to hear from. It's why the really cheesy don't smoke PSAs don't ring a chord with most people, they don't feel genuine.

I don't think Thoreau is some enormous hypocrite, but I do absolutely understand why some people might feel bitter about it when they learn the greater context.

People say this and then you look at voting records in congress and you see them fall in line when the chips are down. Party affiliation and loyalty is what gets you reelection funds and spots on committees, there's a lot of tangible and intangible pressure applied from the color of the tie.

I edited all of mine on Sunday before the protest and now several of the comments have been restored with no indication they were ever edited. That's so shady.

Otherwise known as: boomers wanting to downsize are making a whole bunch of cash with which to do it and are finally paying a fair portion of their net worth.

Here's my guess.

  1. Tumblr users as a demographic are closer to fedi users than the Facebook/Instagram masses.
  2. There just aren't that many Tumblr users anymore, at least compared to the overwhelming horde that is Threads. The threat of diluting the culture is just a lot lower.

Bad patterns to never repeat

"decentralized" except that they're keeping the core software proprietary and the main site in closed beta. Seems more like they're using that as a buzz word to compete with mastadon than actually committing to open software.

The concept is that you don't have to politely sit quietly and listen while someone spouts hate. You are empowered and encouraged to make it stop. That doesn't necessarily involve physical violence but it should remind you that hate can weaponize the rules of polite society and you don't have help.

To be fair that's a pretty recent development. Jellyfin apps for smart tvs are only just becoming stable enough for real use. Plex was the only option for a long time.

You blame the people trying to warn everyone because they didn't push one specific point hard enough?

Everything else I was ok with, why didn't they warn me about the olive oil!?

Darkly-compact is now my instance default. Full screen width is the #1 thing I was missing with every other theme.

Sounds like a skill issue. Just don't die and you won't die.

Says they don't want to do it

Does it anyway, as soon as its released.

It's ok to just say you want something.

What if she works hard and gets promoted?

The justice system will have actually succeeded in rehabilitating someone.

I assume the NFL is/was a 501c6 tax exempt organization since it calls out football leagues specifically.

You'd be looking for 501c3 organizations which does include churches and other dubious religious affiliated organizations but not all federal non-profits.

It's like doctors might know more about clinical psychology than a judge...

Don't get me wrong that comment was not meant to be supportive of musk, just a pet peeve about bad headline writing.

I would support this if there was evidence that manufacturers were knowingly (or purposefully not doing due diligence) selling to distributors who weren't following the rules or were somehow pressuring distributors to bend the rules to sell more (conspiracy). Otherwise its really on the distributors to be doing background checks, adhering to waiting periods, and using proper discretion. If we want less guns around then there need to be legal limits on sales and ownership, and those limits need to be enforced.

I haven't used it personally but I believe Friendica is the thing.

Users on lemmy.world still have a "shadow" version of the beehaw communities on lemmy.world that would normally be synced but isn't anymore. Users on lemmy.world can post to that community and it can be seen by other users there but that post doesn't go back to beehaw or anyone still federated with them.
