Did he edit his comment? The current version doesn't accuse Altman of any felony

He means Apartheid

That one went so far that south Africa is the only country to voluntarily unilateraly give up its nuclear arsenal when a minority risked getting to power

No, this should be an instance sticky since it significantly affects all members of an instance. Community stickiies are easy to overlook

I feel like this questionnaire is missing one rather obvious path:

I'm not using Lemmy because I prefer it over Reddit in any way. It has more technical problems, it lacks the niche communities that Reddit is famous for, the community is more toxic and rather extremists, and it is a splintered mess

However,

It's not really a matter of choice. I simply can't browse Reddit on mobile anymore. I'm not blind or anything, but the official app is simply not useable at all. Even the FOSS POS apps of Lemmy are better, and that's saying something

It's not a matter of preference. It's a matter of necessity

Coin

Look, the glasses are nice and all, but they don't give you a 50% change to win the lottery and randomly realise a way to prove/disprove the Riemann hypothesis every two weeks

I wonder how this works with elections. In my country, the votes are counted within 12 hours. When I'm voting on a party, I am attempting to make said party the largest one. Does the coin just give me a 50% chance to unilaterally decide my government every election cycle?

Edit: oh shit, it's not 50% chance, but 100% after it came into effect once. The first time it lands on heads, try to guess the next flip's outcome by guessing it would be heads. Since the coin is in effect, this guess is correct, even though the next coin will only be flipped in two weeks

In other words, the coin just gives you reality warping for halve a day every two weeks

Horror should still be nsfl

It is getting better though. We are all just facing the issues of our era's.

Tech keeps going up, we are slowly making progress on climate change, the space race is back on, and superpowers don't directly fight eachother anymore. Hell, we've proven to beat once in a century pandemics in a few years with relatively speaking barely any deaths. Life's good

Yes, we have squabbles in the middle east and Africa, but that's par for the course and not an indicator for human development. The only thing that has really gone backwards is that war has been brought back to europe

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic

There is nothing childish about snow. Especially since in some parts of the world, we're the last generation that gets to enjoy it at all

Let's be real here, it's the second one

Hi, yes, I am that minority

I have a 37 character password with both cases, numbers and special characters to login to my pw vault using long random strings

My phone has a swipe pattern lock since that is the safest lock option it allows in the first place. I wish I could lock it better, but the only other options available to me are a 4 character pin, and fingerprints/facial scan. I hope the problems with those are obvious

Couple that with the fact that I have a daily predictable commute in public transit where I have a habit to put my phone next to me during breakfast and you have a recipe for disaster.

So did I. The older brother of a friend gave me a lvl 100 raichu for this weird blue ponyta I had. How kind of him to make that trade with a clueless 10 year old

You mean like how you fully purchased a premium account?

I wonder why there are no laws against eforced, unilateral contract adjustments like this. Especially considering "no ads" was an explicit part of the original purchase

For all intents and purposes it was free word

I haven't really used word in over half a decade since TeX beats it in every conceivable way.

Wordpad was useful in the sparse few cases where I was forced to open a .doc or .docx and couldn't be arsed to upload the file to Google docs

I guess it will be missed for that

Look at this guy with his dual 7900 XTX over here

I got a 7800x3d and 6950 xt. I played with performance boosting mods on medium settings

I kept dropping to 40fps on 1440p and ended up refunding

That's a remarkably terrible Wikipedia article

Hellen Keller?

Holding spacebar pressed used to play the video at half speed, due to pausing and unpausing extremely quickly

Now it plays the video at double speed, meaning that I have to set playback speed manually when I want to watch in slow motion

I can see this being preferable in the long run, but damn if it isn't annoying in the present

Maybe I missed some points by skimming, but the arguments made in that article are that:

  • 1 Australian researcher agrees with his stance

  • a region had 22% of its power produced by wind at one point

I guess the claim "it can be argued" is technically proven true, but the majority opinion I keep hearing from the electrical grid engineers in the news is the opposite

And, well, sometimes it just simply is night, and sometimes the wind doesn't blow. We don't have the battery tech to run from storage alone

But, honestly why wouldn't we use nuclear? It's the one power source we have without any real downsides untill ITER finally brings positive results

Checked the link. I literally can't buy it as a European

Because credit cards are a scam I refuse to partake in, and they seem to only accept American bank transfers

I'd like to add Xcom: enemy within to this list

What's the second one

You know, so I can block it too

But it becomes much easier if you want to compromise a specific target individual

What do you see that's wrong with it that we don't if I may ask?

Lemmy really needs a super-upvote system

I feel the opposite. Still all but one opinion gets drowned out. It's just that now the opinion that survives is the one that screams the loudest rather than the mainstream one

Not the visa or MasterCard kinds that you can give to sites like this. It happens rather often that I want to throw money at the internet, but simply can't. Other examples are Wolfram alpha and chatgpt plus

Your hardware is quite high end actually. It's not a 7900 xtx or 4090, but it's close. (Yes, I have a 980 pro 2tb)

I wonder why you run it that much smoother than I do then

Thanks for the tip

Oh, PayPal works. Thanks

I too, ended up buying the power armor 18T after telling myself not to impulse buy a thermal camera phone for 3 days

You're right that I inverted it numerically

Though, that's a communication thing. White people are a minority worldwide but never referred to as such. I used the standard way to refer to the different races even though that is statistically incorrect in the hope of it being more directly obvious what I meant

Plagiarism is a bad thing

Including plagiarising the dictionary

Yup, calling bs on the article, since a pc is both cheaper and easier than a phone. Besides, if you know how to navigate a window and type into a textbox (both required for YouTube) you know how to write a digital form

This article is made up drama

Not everything that isn't ublock is automatically bad. Especially if you just want an adblocker and not also all the other stuff it comes with
