Many do now. They shut it down prior to landing which sucks.
I find Lemmy to be an echo chamber more than Reddit was. Depends on the community but Lemmy can be pretty caustic if you don't agree with something.
That being said, is fine there is different opinions. Creates discussion.
True story. One of my employees cats gave birth while she was working. Her boyfriend arrived home first and upon noticing the cat, went to check out the kittens. Well apparently the cat, who was always friendly prior, went absolutely cujo. The guy was wearing shorts and the cat just attached to his legs and shredded him. Apparently he like booted the cat a few times but it just kept coming at him. He ended up locking himself in the bathroom and had to climb out a window. The cat actually nicked an artery in his leg and he was bleeding significantly. Had to go to emergency. Apparently the bathroom looked like a war zone from what I was told.
Anyhow my cats always been good.
Not exactly on topic but in the spirit of this post have a funny story. Hired a young lady recently entering the work force. She had been working about a week when we did our payroll run. This entailed printing out all the checks with pay details etc. Is done in an administrative office that is obviously kind of private. Not some place you would wake in without permission. Anyhow we started the payroll print and my manager stepped out briefly to get a coffee. When she came back this new employee was flipping thru everyone's pay check. Of course my manager immediately asks what she is doing to which she responds 'oh I'm just wondering what everyone is being paid'.
She honestly thought it was just fine to not only start flipping thru paperwork in the managers office but to also look over employee payroll checks. She simply had no idea and just stated what she was doing like it was just fine. Actually that was her saving grace. While we made it quite clear how inappropriate it was, being it was her first job, we chalked that down to immaturity and didn't let her go on the spot. Had she been older that likely would have been her last day.
Mind you she only last a week longer for a myriad of other reasons. Little common sense.
Oil and gas is massively profitable. Western nations have crippled that industry resulting in countries like Russia becoming energy giants. The world is consuming new records in consumption this year and let capita, developed nations are nearly a factor more then emerging nations.
In the 10% you participate, do you truely let other people speak or maybe more important, actually realize they may be correct or correct enough?
Only you can answer this.
At one time seven people worked in my company and three of them were named Tim. Then I interviewed a new employee and his name was Tim. Honestly it actually weighed in my decision to have 4 Tims in a company of 8 employees.
This is the problem. The moderate Republicans that didn't support Trump are looking at retirement. They are marginalized in their party. The replacements likely will be further right.
The country did far better when you have moderate and capable leadership on both sides.
I would say you need a change. I suspect you have some level of depression and a change of direction can help. I think you will find living off the land not as peaceful as you think. Deciding to live a minimalist existence can be rewarding but doing so with zero basic amenities is brutal. Have no power and relying on your land for all your needs becomes tedious very fast. An extremely small percentage of people could successfully do that.
Possibly have you considered just moving to a small rural town and taking on more labor type of small work. Handyman stuff of your own comforts. Not sure of your skills but you would need to be a handyman if your thinking of becoming a hermit. Just one suggestion.
Yes a fair amount. At ground is about 760mph at 40000 feet about 659.
Temp and humidity factor some as well.
AWACS had parachute and some chut you could slide out at one time. Don't quote me on that entirely. They simply were not worth it. First most accidents happen and have happened on takeoff and landing. No good in that situation. In a war environment, getting hit by a missile, pretty much the only weapon that will take down an AWAC or similar. Missiles likely won't give crew time to escape. Plane will be doing some kind of tumble. Then you got training. It not simply train once and all good but every year. Sometimes it is better to use that money and time to provide better alternate training that will be more effective. Say for more escort aircraft or better alternate safety systems within the aircraft. You also have the space it takes up resulting in less functionality of your aircraft.
In a large scale world war III scenario, AWACs and similar would be a dangerous plane to crew. Shot down rapidly. In our current warfare situation, they are one of the safer planes to be in. Unless you are Russian and incompetent.
Possibly. How about the reality that people are simply not interacting in person but online. I can't believe this is not the first post.
Seriously go out to a bar, a music festival, volunteer, hell get drunk a few times and loosen up. In the 70, 80, 90 right up till 2000 this was every weekend. Hell it is not some work drone thing. That is an excuse. Work later in life is where you actually might meet some friends and from there have drinks after work and maybe that results in a random meeting with some ladies or men in your life.
School won't teach this. Life skills need practice not exams.
I find it very weird how certain specific issues are assigned to a certain political leaning or more correct correct, how you are expected to believe a certain way in all topics depending on your voting history.
A couple examples are religion and abortion. What do these have to do with any political leaning in the US or any country for that matter? Our maybe the better question to ask is why do people think there is some universal law that dictates what side of the political spectrum you lie on based on certain beliefs that have nothing to do with politics?
All those words that are pronounce the same but have completely different meanings. Particularly the common words.
To two too
No know
Their there
By buy bye
Then there there ones spelt the same but two different meanings and silent letters to even be better.
Go right, you're right.
Didn't know how messed up English spelling/pronunciation is till I started to learn Spanish and nearly every word is pronounced exactly as spelled.
About a thousand but I usually can't find any.
From learning a new language, one thing I noticed is that the more modern the word, the more likely it will be the same or similar in your own language. Thus computer is very close across many languages where as help can be quite different. I think taxi would be a very new concept. For Ok. That might just be due to the word being so simple thus it was adopted fast. Much like we nod for yes.
Not an expert but just an observation I had found interesting.
My brother tore down old grain elevators when I was young. Where the trucks dump there is a pit about 15 feet deep with augers at the bottom. I was about 14 helping him and we had the grates off the pit. My brother had an older partner who happened to be on site that day. Anyhow I had my back turn to the pit and stupidly was stepping back to look at something. I had just placed my foot over the empty air when my brother's partner grabbed me. I wasn't even falling yet.
Anyhow at the moment I didn't even think about it. Was bit dangerous work overall. We worked with dynamite and heavy equipment after all. Was not till a few days later I woke at night in a start and just realized how close I came to being dead or at best in a wheel chair.
This was about 30 years past. I had only in my life meet his partner maybe 4 times but he happened to be on site that day. I had never told anyone this story as it was a non event at the time but I thought about it lots. My brother had informed me few years back that he had died. Natural causes. Certainly brought back that day and fully explained to my brother how he had literally saved my life.
Ernie if you are reading this, I do not know how to thank you enough. Wish I had mentioned it to my brother while you were still alive as I am sure he would have brought it up in polite conversation.
I don't like it but I think we do. China and Russia will certainly have them and they will get ten times better in a same amount of years.
I watched the Ted talk on defense drivers. Scary shit. Thing is I work with commercial cameras and have, in hand, camera that can not only identify all kinds of objects such a human's,, they can recognize individual humans and put a name to them. They can recognize if people are loitering or if someone is being followed. They can reconsider a car from a truck from a bus from a bike. This is not done in a server but thru the power of the CPU in the camera alone. The cost. 500 dollars.
Point being the power available in such a low cost item is staggering. Combined with a weapons platform and it is scary. A terrorist group could distribute hundreds into bushes and they could just sit there for a week in low power mode, waiting to recognize a simple person and spring into action. This is stuff we have right now off the shelf.
What will be part of military arsenals in ten years will eclipse this current tech significantly. Troops won't be ambushed by live human fire but by thousands of drones that care not for their survival.
I actually have my private pilots licence. Had bought a Piper arrow that was IFR rated. I am not rate IFR but my instructor was.
Flew one flight to a small airport during real IFR conditions with my instructor. Uses GPS for localizer and glideslope. This particular airport minimum was 200 feet. That means if you don't see the runway by 200, you abort. Anyhow the cloud layer was started at 5000 right down to 300 feet. Was beautiful day with zero turbulence. When we entered the clouds, it literally felt like you were not moving and just in a heavy fog. Your engine is even decreased and quiet as you are descending. You watch the instruments like a hawk because it is easy to lose spacial orientation and death comes shortly after that. The only really movement is watching your attitude decrease which is very eerie. Being we were flying into an unmanned airport, for all you know the clouds go right into the ground so watching for the abort attitude is critical. In this case the cloud layer was particularly low at 300 feet. We broke thru the clouds with 100 feet to spare before abort attitude. Literally about three seconds later we were starting the flare and landing.
You literally rely on your instruments 100 percent and hope that altitude indicator is right on. You have a minimum of two attitude indicators. If they were both to fail in real IFR conditions, conditions where you can't see the horizon, very few pilots will survive. You can't feel the horizon at all. There is no way to tell if you are level. On the ultimate failure, you can use slew, altitude, turn indicator, worried to try and fly out of the condition. But few pilots could successfully do that for any extend time.
I don't think there was any widespread opinion that literature or radio would rot kids brains. One person's opinion, Socrates, isn't fact any other person thought the same. TV and on though there is some support for what you say but there also may be some truth.
Fuck no. People have the right to keep their wages secret if they want. It is up to them to disclose that at their choice only. I certainly as their boss would not disclose the hours or wages someone gets without permission. Are you for real?
They pulled the black card. You can't argue against that.
To reasons. One we have made an extremely complex legal system and two, for the same reason actors charge millions. Because they can.
Oh man I am saving this one. Next time I'm stoned with someone.
I have to say, the title did not convey the good argument you make.
They work well in moving vehicles but beyond that we could ditch them entirely. Edit. I should have said for most purposes. They do work well for kids or someone injured, hospitals etc.
Straws are a strawman argument to begin. That plastic drink cup has about 50 times the plastic of your typical straw.
If I didn't see him as a real and present danger to US stability, I would agree with you. Hell if he was simply just a poor leader I would agree with you. But in this case he is doing real damage to US politics and trust in the system. And this comes from a fairly right leaning person.
Personally I liked many of the opposite views and some conflict. Made for entertaining discussions at times even if I don't agree with it.
When everyone has the same opinion, not much left to discuss.
Cat Genie.
Bit expensive and you need to connect to water and a drain. Either toilet or near washing machine works.
It worked for us for about 4 years. Works very well and washes the litter each use.
This is what weak people think a strong person should look like.
What term do you use for gasoline? Has Europe assigned petrol for gasoline?
Petrol or petroleum is diesel or gasoline by definition. If you say or petrol in you tank you are basically saying put fuel in your tank without specifying what it is.
I will go against everyone here. You should buy a drink. Is polite. And it may make your friends bit uncomfortable.
That being said, while it is not a public place, not sure why they would care much considering others are purchasing something. Maybe your group should locate other location.
Worse, many articles do not have the year in the date. What the hell is up with that?
Renting houses, I would say half the pet owning renters would result in some pet related damage. A rug replacement or scratched wall. Repairable but not expensive. Then there would be one in ten that could do a significant amount of damage. Pee being the biggest one. A rug replacement is free thousand dollars. Let cats pee everywhere and you can have costs exceeding 40,000 dollars.
There is no real easy way to know which renter you have.
Every country pretty much. Lawsuit. Don't pay taxes. Owe money to someone personally. You don't get to hide your assets behind a home and get into financial trouble in other areas.
This is also why homeowners typically live within the law. Too much to loose.
That is democracy. You vote them in. Of course leadership positions will always be above the mean age. Same as senior positions in companies will also be older than the new hires. It takes years to become proficient in your trade and new people to politics usually start at the local level first before entering upper offices.
How about a group of villains that don't have much care when half their members are killed? I mean some of them likely were good friends. I always find that odd particularly is the movie was more serious and accurate.
Comments are correct here with one missing high level component for routers. That is the very top level routers are designed for tier 1. I started an internet company and we got large enough to decide to become a tier 1 provider. There is one big difference in this configuration is that we publish our own blocks of IPs and we listen for published IPs. We have routers that essentially maintained a list of where all the IPs or block of IPs worldwide needed to go. More importantly, I would send out a list of my IP blocks that would propagate across all the tier 1 routers across the world. That could take an hour but more likely minutes.
Having this allowed me to essentially connect to the internet at zero cost. There is some cost to be assigned IPs but I was trusted. While I say zero cost, I still had to pay for large bandwidth dark fiber to new York or other major meet me points. I also had to pay rack space to put a tier1 router into these buildings. But what is really gives me is the ability to have multiple connections to the pipes and because I publish my own IPs, I can balance all the routes and other providers can find the best way to me thru a process called weighing. Also if I loose a connection which is rare at this level, I could rapidly and automatically republish my route on working connections and usually within 15 minutes, all the routers in the world would know. 15 minutes actually is likely long. These days 5 minutes.
Now the interesting part of this, I publish my own IPs. I have to be extremely careful as with a single stroke, I could say I own all the IPs to China. Well likely a few strokes. I certainly could make a simple mistake and take control of a shit load of IPs. That means suddenly traffic could come to me that was destined for another country. More correct, because they are publishing, it would just make a mess and take some IPs down. If I publish a big block in China, I would essentially DOS myself because the pipe sizes I buy are factors smaller. Now this is a trusted system because we all connect together randomly. There is and can not be any central control as we all need to publish freely for this to work. But if I were to screw up and say divert a shit load of IPs destined to say Washington, it would rapidly be figured out and I would rapidly be determined to not be trusted. I would be shut down physically at some point.
Essentially I have fairly normal routers with one feature that allows them to dynamically keep track of all the routes worldwide and to periodically publish all the IPs I own.
Mostly due to internet and pretty much every violent crime is publicized. No matter if it is across the country.
What is more funny, or sad maybe, this generation is helicoptering their children far more than past generations even though crime is far lower. I walked alone to and from kindergarten 6 blocks. Now someone would report you.
I think it might be hard to predict exactly but I I am bit with you. Those right leaning independents that don't like Trump are quite unlikely to vote for him regardless. But that known name may put Biden as their second choice.
Don't take it for granted. Hilary lost because of this. Get out and vote.
