Based on what Reddit Inc has done these past three weeks, you can already predict they won't budge, but rather enforce what they want. So, about a week ago I stepped down as moderator from my handful of subs. I'm done with Reddit.

Better late than never

I like the compact list, but I don't like article pages with full-width paragraphs. That makes it far less readable. There should be a max paragraph width to make it more readable.

Of the four subs I moderate, two are restricted (i.e. read-only) with links to places off-Reddit. One support sub I handed over to my co-mod who wants to keep it going as long as possible, tho he understands Reddit is likely going down, slowly but certainly.

There's only one of my subs that's a bit problematic, with ~45% of voting users wanting to rejoin the blackout, but ~55% wanting it to remain open. There are some people really critical of my proposal to move to kbin.social, but they are largely people with very little prior activity on the sub.

Either way, unless Reddit reverses course and fires spez, I am leaving that platform.

The inertia of the average Redditor.

Thing is, we need the power users who create content to be early adopters. The rest will eventually follow.

That's why Kbin feels more like Reddit to me. I was always using old on desktop, and RiF on-the-go.

I already got several accounts piping up that they want to moderate, but it's their first comment on the sub...

Do you have auto media preview on? That might be why it's grabbing that playlist.

Actions speak louder than words. He may say that it's a minority, but we're clearly making an impact.

I wouldn't still be playing Skyrim to this day if it wasn't for the wealth of mods.

It's exactly equivalent.

It was my favorite Reddit app for many years. But the fun is now over.

RIP RiF! Thanks for all the fun!

tho kbin pretends this post comes from kbin...

The hamburger / three sheets icon on the top right of the top comment.

I have my feed by default set to subscribe.

Me too. But stuff can still show up in the semi-random "related posts" in the sidebar of a magazine.

It was time for me to return to Linux, which I've been using on and off for two decades. This time I wanted to give Nobara a go, with its optimizations for gaming. But alas, the LiveUSB is unusable. The default options lead to a black screen (I guess when the kernel framebuffer kicks in), and the "troubleshooting" option gives me a desktop that crashes in a few minutes, when still setting up the options in the installer. I guess Wayland is too unstable.

So I returned to Gentoo and am now in the middle of installing that (again). Its LiveUSB system is stable and giving me no problem.

There's m/chess ;-)

No, mods cannot delete a subreddit. At most they can hide it by going private, or hide existing posts by "deleting" them (which still leaves them in the database and visible to mods and admins).

Yes, I reopened here, and left links in the sidebar and sticky posts on the subs before I stepped down.

The biggest sub tho was for Reaper, a DAW (music making software), and we decided to lock and redirect to the official forums.

The problem is that Kbin sucks as well. For example, /m/science lacks actual moderators and gets flooded with spam on the regular. And even where there are active moderators, moderation actions often do not get federated.

I was hoping these issues would get fixed soon, but here we are, three months after the Reddit apocalypse, and Kbin is still not a fully functional platform. For example, I filed bug #1102 fifteen days ago, and this has still not been resolved. And bug #570 has been open since early July.

If Kbin wants to become and stay relevant, it needs more hands on deck.

Hmmm, let's see...

I choose number 2.

AFAIK it's not (yet) possible to sticky content on Kbin.

Ah! I see. Very unintuitive.

I haven't used Google Search in years.

Skyrim for me as well. I have literally played thousands of hours. Mostly modded, making different builds. I think I only finished the main quest two times.

On desktop, when you hover over someone's user name, after a couple of seconds a pop-up will appear, which has a field for adding a note. I'm assuming that's private, to mirror how that works elsewhere, but I'm not 100% sure.

You can completely customize Gentoo Linux to be what you want it to be and slim it down to what you need.

It is more than half of the reported 13k active subs.

And the display: none? That's what I want, but weirdly it's not working on my magazine.

Have you tested that? Because it doesn't work on my end.
