Just chilling

I looked her up. I'm pretty sure this is satire judging from the comedic nature of most of her posts.

What a very oddly specific and suspicious thing to have anything at all to say about.

The workplace, or at least career progression, is like 50% politics lol. Google is no different.

I'm so annoyed we're here 25 years from Google's founding, catering to them with the euphemism "SEO" rather than doing what's best for the web and for humanity and expecting Google, the Search Engine company, to improve its capacity to search optimally.

I didn't realize we were here to play geoguessr but you win!

Well when you realize we treat school as glorified babysitting and not just education, part of the reason becomes more obvious. Parents work 40 hours so we need kids in school roughly that length of time. Especially when both parents have to work to afford to live.

We need to uplift a lot about the entire system for it to work.

Ah yes, the famous Dictator For A Day Program where the guy who wants to be a dictator famously chooses to not use his powers to install himself for life.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck for this person, but product market fit is a thing for open source too. If people need it they'll use it and contribute until something better comes along. If not, your idea wasn't the one. That doesn't mean it's not possible. Nearly my whole life runs on open source software, so it's pretty clearly sustainable.

over the years, using "open source" has become an excuse to avoid paying for software

Um. Yes. And to be blunt: obviously. And in return, I give away software I create for free whether people need it or not, and try to give back in the form of contributions too. But I've never once given up my day job for it. Would that be nice? Maybe. But open source software is more frequently sustained by passionate people using and expanding it for their own projects and not by expecting people to pay you for your efforts when you're likely not paying (nodejs, github, ahem) for the software you're building it on anyway.

X gon' take it from you

How am I supposed to keep track without the two letter suffix that's non sequential?

Spez get in trouble for sending unsolicited dick pics and needs to drop some tables again?

I wish this wasn't so true.

The cover photo is a jet plane but remember, US$140,000/year is the threshold they're quoting in the article so the reality is more like a decent car or two and a house in a nicer area will drop you into that range.

Sounds like a real stand-up neighborhood. Shot and bleeding kid asking for your help? Better neutralize the threat before getting help.

It's like the whole neighborhood cosplays as cops/soldiers and thinks everything unfamiliar is a threat.

Chilling with bears, if I understand recent events correctly.

I microwaved my phone and the battery level hasn't gone down at all since.

It's probably a whole set of bots and the responses to "this needs to be a coffee mug" are some other account saying "I found one!" and that's the whole point of the comment chain. Someone has a crappy mug to sell and constructs scenarios that seem natural ish to introduce it.

Left to its own ends it seems it will cost the same but have better margins concentrated into greater wealth for fewer people.

As an AI language model I'm not able to answer duplicate questions and this was asked before. Closing.

Maybe don't take a job of protecting and serving if a kid with a gardening tool is a bit too frightening for you to handle non-lethally.

They still need some rulemaking around this and general right to repair though.

If this was not a zero day being actively exploited then you would be 100% correct. As it is currently being exploited and a fix is available, visibility is significantly more important than anything else or else the long tail of upgrades is going to be a lot longer.

Keep in mind a list of federated instances and their version is available at the bottom of every lemmy instance (at /instances), so this is a really easy chain to follow and try to exploit.

The discovery was largely discussed in the lemmy-dev Matrix channel, fixes published on github, and also discussed on a dozen alternate lemmy servers. This is not an issue you can really keep quiet any longer, so ideally now you move along to the shout it from the mountaintop stage.

A note on the page warns, “Shutterstock does not review AI-generated content for compliance with Shutterstock’s content compliance standards.” Adding that users must not generate imagery that is “false, misleading, deceptive, harmful, or violent.”

"Pls don't be bad mmkay?"

"We've done all we possibly can."

Yes but sometimes their kids just talk forever, or they themselves just ignore the reality that their time has come, and we've got places to be. So the nice request comes with a deadline.

21 stone is approximately 1.54 Americans, by my calculations. Another weird unit of measure but who am I to judge?

From now until then you're invincible.

I feel like this is an example of the dangers of surrounding yourself with a monoculture. Maybe Elon was always exactly this way, but he was seemingly previously tempered by the notably distinct moderation policies at Twitter. Once he owned it and stripped that moderation, there's nothing holding the pendulum anymore and he swings pretty far the other direction.

Hover hand to avoid fingerprints. Smart.

How very apt that Hollywood would be so skilled at projection.

What an absolute turd of a statement. Says a lot about a person and any organization they might lead.

Meanwhile it's the same type of person campaigning for defunding of public libraries and schools.

To be fair he's right. It's not cancel culture. It's institutional racism.

Merge takes two commits and smooshes them together at their current state, and may require one commit to reconcile changes. Rebase takes a whole branch and moves it, as if you started working on it from a more recent base commit, and will ask you to reconcile changes as it replays history.

Hey now, I'm sure they'll still gladly accept free labor for subtitle submissions!

It's happened. He's time traveled and been cut off mid post. Also apparently lemmy doesn't handle timespace folds gracefully.

Not sure where the positive news is, unless you're a Disney shareholder. They dropped subscribers and are now losing less money. They care about the money, not really the subscribers. This pattern will likely continue.

And in 2013 the key word for marketing was algorithm. The YouTube algorithm. The reddit algorithm. Etc.

You must have a lot of Linux ISO backups. Doing your part to preserve open source software history.
