Can't I be both nerd and juggalo?

There's nothing wrong with doing so. Perfectly up to you, and everyone would know how much it is.

Coming from. Sweden where all tax records are public, it seems insane to get 5 years for revealing taxes.

There are places where analog exams went away? I'd say Sweden has always been at the forefront of technology, but our exams were always pen-and-paper.

References for renting? What sort of dystopia is that? I've never heard of that concept, luckily.

a subset of lucky taxpayers in as many as 13 states

This makes it sound like some dystopian survival lottery.

Sure, it might be safe to eat after it's been cooked, but who wants washed mince meat?

Which is just a Vine clone.

For fuck's sake, guys

LLMs are AI. Lots of things are. They're just not AGI.

Wow. I saw it as the two people sharing the land. I did not see it as fleeing. Still a terrible flag, and even more so if it can be interpreted so differently.

That title hurts my eyes!

Least buggy*

I don't know which one this is from, but god I love Don Rosa comics!

Ironically that is how you get better content. If you don't engage and let the algorithm find you content, you're going to get generic crap. Unfortunately. You can use logged-in Youtube to find stuff and NewPipe to watch it.

The definition for middle aged (edit: as I have heard it) has always been 40. Most people live until 80 or a little less, so it makes sense.

As a Swede, using units that give numbers above ~100 starts to get unwieldy. Hence why we use mil (1 Scandinavian mile = 10 km) once we get to triple digits in km. "It's 60 mil to Stockholm" is immensely more natural than "it's 600 km to Stockholm".

Bonuses should not be expected, or they're not bonuses. I get that. But making them available only to those able to do some physical test is discrimination.

But whether we called them memes or not, by definition they were. The Selfish Gene came out in 1976, where Dawkins coined it as "a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation".

A lot of imported beers come in 440 ml cans. US ones in particular. But I agree that it feels scammy, because we expect them to be 500 ml.

Immediately though of one of those races of dog or cow that's been inbred to the point that their existence is torture already. I didn't think of humans.

Huh. Here we have registries for people who habitually don't pay on time, with a cooldown once they're caught up. If you're not in the registry it's assumed that you're good.

I'm a Swede living in Denmark. Not a thing in Scandinavia, apparently.

That does sound bad, but a grocery store's wifi? Why would one be using that?

people buy a new phone often enough nowadays that battery wear is not as much of an issue

battery wear is part of the reason people trash their otherwise working phones. People buying phones more often is a symptom of not having right to repair.

Also, buying an extra battery and charger meant you could carry a fully charged battery in your pocket and if you were out hiking or something, you could just swap batteries instead of needing a power bank and a whole bunch of charging time.

I don't think I've ever done that. I've always used normal punctuation, except for in my teens, where we all used ellipsis (…) at the end of every sentence to indicate that more was coming. ICQ was the shit. Messaging apps even copied this by adding a bouncing ellipsis when you're typing. Maybe that's why we stopped using it.

Only 18 here.

Oh yeah, we just forgot. Because everyone loves adding a dongle between phone and cable.

To... Party?

For years I had no idea Point of Sale was a thing, and always thought people were talking about systems they hated as pieces of shit.

Which is 1 cm³ of water if we want to stay in SI. And if that's the basis for it, then why not make a gram = the weight of 1 dm³ of water and then we wouldn't need a prefix for weights in the stuff-we-usually-carry-around range. It still doesn't make sense to me to have a prefixed unit being the base unit.

WINE Is Not an Emulator

A (very well used) program I use places files in $HOME. Someone argued for changing to $XDG_CONFIG or at least add that as an option. The dev, being used to the old school way, gave the exact opposite reason: that .config was just an extra level of organization when dotfiles are what the home dir is for. So I'm not sure how successful you would be with that approach.

To be clear, I am clearly on the side of XDG, myself.

Related. I actually thought it was a sun related thing, like a solar flare, in the comic. Turns out it was butterflies.

Actually dragging the scroll position indicator as in the comic is still cringe though. I fully agree with the usage of clicking to go quickly to where I want to go, but the most useful thing about a scrollbar to me is that I can look at it to know where I am in the page.

You wouldn't. You'd make new coffee. Not trying to be condescending. I literally wouldn't reheat coffee because if it's been standing long enough to get cold, it no longer tastes good.

I agree. And those 3D icons that were popular once were the height of the garbage trend. Flat and minimalistic looks so much better.

My 690 still works for many games. 🥲

Elder Scrolls: Online. Yes, I know I'm ten years late to the party, but it's been a real blast! Never played an MMO before, and ESO has probably ruined me for other MMOs.

Getting Curse of Monkey Island flashbacks.

I've literally never in my life seen a square or robertson screw. Pozi though is like 90% of all screws.
