I'm an engineer with history in reverse-engineering, logic-level troubleshooting and design, software, and whatever else.

I think of myself of more as an agroecologist/farmer type guy though no matter what the paychecks say on them

This is all good info except for the gender thing. The round/long difference is just a growth habit. Watermelon plants (and other cucurbits like squash, zucchini, cantaloupe, etc) produce male and female flowers. Only the female flowers produce fruit and must be pollinated by a male flower to do so.

I get to be that guy! I'm so excited!

In power strips, the lights are (in the overwhelming majority of cases) actually a neon bulb! They're cheaper for that specific purpose because they can be powered directly off of the mains power with a single resistor.

Your point is entirely valid and I bear the same cross, this is just a fun fact you can use to impress colleagues, strangers, and potential lovers, dazzling them with your deep esoteric knowledge of and passion for illuminators in power strips.

I went ahead and just cloned it to my personal Gittea and made it public

This is the most uncomfortable an image of zuck has ever made me which, honestly, is an achievement.

My favorite thing about Charlie Kirk is that, regardless of your political standing, nobody can tell if any still image of him actually has a correctly sized face.

My least favorite thing about him is his continued existence.

I don't understand why people are grasping so desperately onto reddit. This platform is young but already superior in most ways to reddit.

Also, I firmly believe that federation is the perfect environment for something like reddit and this is what we should have gotten in the first place instead of what reddit became.

I overwrote all of mine with a link to join-lemmy.org Hellmo

On lemmy, you could literally just start the same community on another server. If other people agree with you about space, the new community will become the "default" one. don't really think anybody even has the ability to become "too powerful" because they are neutered the instant the base url changes.

While I'm with you on that, I am definitely getting more of a "sneaky snake" vibe from this comic, personally.

Why did you put this somewhere I can see it

I am astounded by how good wefwef is. Without question the best web app I've ever seen

B) lmfao how are you making so much more than me

Wow, they're doing an impressively shitty job of owning Reddit.

I'm yet to find a single thing about leaving facebook that makes me regret it. What a terrible website

"It is what it is"

No shit, fucknugget. My problem was probably that what it is sucks ass. This isn't even a sentence. Stop saying it to people. Silence is more useful.

Good call. I'll try and do that but I am easily distracted so may end up disappointing you

Edit: Should be good now

This translates to "I do not have anything impressive to say off the top of my head and I'm panicking now"

I haven't and, now that you've said this, I don't plan on it

I, personally, haven't done a whole lot of VM work but I do run a metric ass-ton of containers. I can spool up servers in docker compose on absolutely dogshit hardware and have it run serviceably. Also, the immutability of the container OS is really nice for moving things around and/or getting them set up quickly.

I definitely don't blame you for that. Dogwhistles come with that little bit of plausible deniability so it's impossible to draw a hard line on this type of thing.

lol but fr you're probably right

Lol I used a script to overwrite my 13 years of fairly active redditing with a join-lemmy.org link

If what you need to accomplish can be achieved via shell commands, it would be hard to beat OliveTin for this use case.

I clicked on some of the tags and got to binary downloads but yeah, I've never dealt with releases or compiled binaries via git myself so I have no idea how to make that better at this point Don't cry don't cry don't cry

I cloned the repo into my gittea https://git.toad.city/brad/DeGourou

Unrelated but I'm very impressed with how well this posted to Lemmy from Mastodon. Exceptional

For me:

  • Document things (configs, ports, etc) as I go
  • Uniform folder layout for everything (my first couple of servers were a bit wild-westy)
  • Choosing and utilizing some reasonable method of assigning ports to things. I do not even want to explain what I need to do when I forget what port something in this setup is using.
