Some of my most intense, fun and vivid memories are seeing live music with friends/ family.

I know it’s not as cheap or accessible as it used to be and that adds to the frustration. But If music is something you’re passionate about, I would highly recommend doing it while the bands you like are still around and you are still able.

If you generally don’t like concerts then you do you and that’s fair.

Dare I say that it’s starting to feel like Trumps campaign is unraveling. A bit.

It argues that Biden enriched himself through his family’s business ventures and concealed his mishandling of classified information in office

Hmm. That sounds familiar. I could swear it was a different family.

My main concern is that, because the focus is primarily on making money, some young people might mistake entertainment for truth. The content creators are more interested in earning money and are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that, rather than providing accurate discourse. In reality, this election is not a viral video, a TikTok challenge, or a source of amusement. It is a serious real-life event with significant consequences.

The other side of that coin is that society has been publicly parodying candidates since the beginning. So who am I to judge this new form of it.

Edit: This keeps getting brought up about how it’s already happening in the mainstream. I’m in agreement with that and thought my last paragraph broadly covers that acknowledgment.

We hope our kids are provided the education and tools to think critically when they are adults, but children ingesting financially driven politics on Chinese TikTok just hits wrong.

It kinda feels like both. We are seeing his campaign machine at full speed, but for some reason it feels a bit broken. I guess we’ll see where everything is in a month or so.

It’s an LLM with well documented processes and limitations. Not going to even watch this waste of bits.

No you don’t understand. Commenter was told these talking points. There’s no “thinking” happening here. 🐑

I don’t see it that way at all. This seems like a great way to increase their votes. It’s not like they are going to lose voters who were going to vote Biden to begin with.

This is not for someone to daily drive. You’ll probably get better performance duct taping and raspberry pi to Bluetooth keyboard and 7 inch pi display.

Wow. We’ve come full circle. Wouldn’t it be ironic if Marathon is not released for the Mac.

e: I think it was about 30 years ago when I first played Marathon on an Apple Macintosh Performa 450.

Maybe about 25ish years since I watched Bungie demo the “Mac” game called Halo with Steve Jobs.

Let's be clear, though, all major companies do this. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, even non-social media like Amazon. They all track users in this way.

I’ve never actually seen it argued, yet it’s brought up every time like it is. You’d have to be under a rock the last 20 years to think that’s not the case.

We all understand that the solution is not banning one app, but instead setting rules all apps have to follow. But here we are and just because US companies are doing it, doesn’t somehow make it OK TikTok is.

Why?

The concern is ultimately influence. TikTok , controlled by China, was easily able to influence their users to take action when the initial talks of banning the app occurred. The data collection mentioned in this article is just one of many concerns that make up a much larger concern.

This concern feels unnecessary.

This is the 8th time some of us have seen this posted.

Also not everyone agrees that this makes sense. Asking people to post, link and comment any all racism even if it’s just a description.

This person seems to think the solution to racism is segregation and making different rules for the races. Also this person only seems to be fixated on black vs white. It’s all very odd.

Again? I’m blocking this fool.

Apparently the piece of shit was a Republican all along.

According to the article:

“This executive order directs state agencies to move urgently to address dangerous encampments while supporting and assisting the individuals living in them — and provides guidance for cities and counties to do the same,” Newson said in a statement. “There are simply no more excuses. It’s time for everyone to do their part.”

“Our city encampment teams and street outreach staff have been going out every day to bring people indoors, and to clean and clear encampments,” spokesperson Parisa Safarzadeh told CNN in a statement. “This is why we are seeing a five year low in the City’s tent count on our streets.”

Newsom has said while he opposes penalties for people sleeping outside, the Grants Pass ruling has been interpreted so widely that it broadly prevents cities from doing anything.

Yeah, I dunno. Doesn’t exactly feel the same as the republican agendas we’ve been hearing about.

Tom DeLonge : Blink-182

Never hit right for me. Terrible voice. Nasally and whiny. Wanna be punk. Men in their mid to late 20s singing about the drama only a 15-year-old in high school would care about or experience. It was weird.

I had no issue with Billie Joe Armstrong and Greenday. I really enjoyed their career and catalog.

don’t use lemmy lol

If you feel this strongly about web a browser that’s not built yet, how could you possibly be using lemmy, knowing what you do about their devs?

Where’s your line?

Privacy - Privacy is the state or condition of being free from public attention or unsanctioned intrusion, allowing individuals to control their personal information and maintain boundaries from others. It involves the right to keep one’s personal life, thoughts, and activities confidential, and to decide what information is shared and with whom. Privacy ensures protection from surveillance, interference, and misuse of one’s personal data, supporting autonomy and dignity in personal and professional contexts.

I know y’all had a rough start growing up online, but that word really used to be important to us grey beards who watched all this online stuff unfold over the decades.

Sometimes I wonder if the younger folks realize you don’t have to document your life on the internet.

You just ranted about how bad you are at using and understanding Windows, in a Linux community.

GOP loves to target useful government programs that help normal folks.

  1. Slash the funding and try to install leaders that may favor GOP policies.

This again?

It’s never about those that were going to vote for Biden anyways. It’s always been about the undecided voters.

Right. That’s obviously the whole point.

Speak for yourself.

I believe that’s what everyone was doing, but it seemed to upset some people for some reason.

I’ve never encountered a more famous, talentless “musician” in my life.

I don’t need pubic hair in my face. I’ll start from the top and work down. Not sure why people are so compelled to argue.

If you feel the need to floss your ass then hit your face, by all means you do you.

Is it possible to use SSD drive as a catch drive for 12 TB HDD so it uses SSD speeds when downloading and moves files to HDD later on?

Is that not what you asked for?

1 more...

We should remove all centralized, single company run social media platforms in the US.

Yes, if the temporary directory where the files are being downloaded (incomplete folder) is on the SSD, then it will be faster, especially if you’ve identified a cheap HDD as your bottleneck.

Unless you are incorrect about the HDD being the bottleneck.

And US companies do the same thing but arguably in a way that's worse for our country. Elon is actively interfering with X/Twitter to make a more conservative user base, and Facebook is famous for giving this influence to other private companies leading to Trump.

Again, I don’t understand why we have to keep going back to a known problem and try to use it to justify a different concern. The topic is China’s TikTok.

https://www.theverge.com/2024/3/7/24093308/tiktok-congress-ban-push-notification

TikTok sent users in the US a push notification on Wednesday, warning that “Congress is planning a total ban of TikTok” that would “[strip] 170 million Americans of their Constitutional right to free expression.” The page says that a ban would “damage millions of businesses, destroy the livelihoods of countless creators across the country, and deny artists an audience.” The alert includes a way for users to find their representative and call their office.

https://mashable.com/article/tiktok-users-call-congress-to-save-the-app

“It’s so so bad. Our phones have not stopped ringing," said one GOP staffer in a report from Politico. "They’re teenagers and old people saying they spend their whole day on the app and we can't take it away."

China can send push notifications to 170 million Americans about whatever they want.
