Jesus, some people just have no awareness whatsoever.

Very much so. YT should demonetize all "prank" channels. It's just bullying/terrorizing.

That phrase has been around longer than the internet even. Has nothing to do with Reddit or Lemmy.

People just love to have a reason to hate. Just like when COVID started and Asians were getting attacked all over despite having zero connection to China.

IMO, on the Game Awards where it was announced, he looked extremely nervous to say much of anything. And he seemed like he was trying to downplay what the game has with his comments on it being a small team working on it. Which I don't blame him.

As an Asian person, there's not much I hate more than jokes about Asian names or accents. Not even because it's racist and offensive, but it's just so cheap and hacky. On the other hand, when someone laughs at those jokes, I know that's a person I want nothing to do with ever.

When I was a toddler I followed my dog into the woods. I don't have any memory of it but my parents said I was gone for hours and then suddenly we both just came walking out, perfectly fine. Thanks, Andy, for protecting me that day.

"The very first Mozilla logo, after the decline of Netscape, was a phoenix reborn from its flames. When they had to change their name, they opted for an animal that was not well known on the web at the time. It was the red panda. Unfortunately, people thought that the animal on the Mozilla Firefox logo was a fox. This "firefox" is actually a red panda which is a protected species in Asia. A mistake when translating red panda from Chinese to English is how we got firefox.".

Aww, thanks so much for the shout out! And thank you for the love in the comments. I hope to make many more themed icons in the future. Keep a lookout!

Lol, this story is still going? Didn't this whole thing blow up like 8 months ago or something?

I've found that some people are just serial liars. That, coupled with people's inability to admit fault or that they are wrong, and you get GS. I don't even think he realizes he's lying half the time. He's conditioned himself to believe his own lies.

This is just for the LW logo, not individual community artwork. Similar to Google Doodles.

These days I skip all, self-promotion and in-video sponsors included.

Sounds like you probably use it but if not, get the SponsorBlock extension to do exactly this.

I saw a video the other day of a bunch of cyber trucks on a trailer going down the highway and all the flat panels were rippling in the wind. I'm sure Elon saw that and now he's rushing to fix it.

Saw a TikTok that compared it to having the same vibes as that key and Peele racist country song sketch and also Bo Burnham's country song parody.

Disgusting, but I don't really see the point in having it stricken from the record. Keep it on record so it's part of Crane's legacy. I mean, why hide that he's a racist?

This was the main example I had in my head when making this post.

The first logo made was for Halloween, so we, unfortunately, missed Canadian Thanksgiving, but will be sure to include next year. Thanks for the link. What we're looking for is users' personal experiences with holidays, as we may not be as familiar as a person local to that area would be. We can easily look up a list and make something, but we want to make sure they are represented accurately. Thank you!

Good lord, what an inconsiderate asshole

https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/loss

There was a webcomic series called Ctrl+Alt+Del and Loss is one of those comics that depicted a man rushing in the hospital and finding his wife had a miscarriage. It was a drastic shift in tone from the normally video game related lighthearted series. The original comic is a 4 panel in a grid displaying:

  1. The man coming in the hospital (single upright figure)
  2. The man speaking with the receptionist (2 single upright figures)
  3. The man speaking with the doctor (2 single upright figures)
  4. The man looking over his wife in bed (1 upright figure and 1 horizontal figure)

It's since been parodied in many ways, while keeping the basic structure the same, mostly in minimalist depictions. If you look at the teacher's graphic, it has that same structure. Those that are familiar with the original comic and it's many parodies can usually notice it right away.

I think it's a perfect example of the teacher's lesson showcasing a "glyph" that would be completely unrecognizable to anyone who isn't familiar.

It was the paper towels that got replaced with rawhide. The sour cream is still pending.

I think this is true to an extent. The internet is still filled with magical things, but no one can deny that a huge portion is just ad-filled garbage at this point. Most everything "mainstream" is designed to manipulate us and suck us dry. I still say the internet is both the greatest and worst invention of all time.

That's the thing people always miss. It's not that the fast food workers getting $20 is high, it's that every profession should be getting paid more. Wages across the board are stagnant.

lol, so it started as a pumpkin head/jack o lantern, but as I was tweaking things here and there, I wasn't liking it so I kept going back to a very simple design of the orange pumpkin head with green "stem" ears. Then someone suggested making the eyes red and white and it just looked right, so here we are, haha. Sometimes graphic design is just an accident.

OMG, he'd never do it, but I would watch videos of that on a loop all day long.

we will bring them back to mental institutions, where they belong

As someone that struggles with mental issues, and has spent some time in a facility when I was at my worst, this line pisses me off to no end. Feels no different than what he would say about so-called criminals or immigrants. Wish he would go where he belongs.

The recent God of War games come to mind immediately. They're both made to look like a single continuous shot throughout the game and it's obvious the developers put a lot of thought into the cinematography.

I love seeing Kum & Go on social media because no matter what the discussion always turns to the name. I live in Colorado and they are everywhere around here. But they are probably the nicest gas stations we have here. We also have Loaf n Jug which isn't dirty but just makes me giggle.

It's probably my favorite scifi movie that made me really feel something. I think you can find a lot to relate to, grief, depression, loss. I really think the main theme is self destruction, specifically resulting from some kind of trauma. Everyone had their own issues and they were all basically destroying themselves and finding solace in the shimmer.

Training classes in the military was the bane of my existence when I was in. Always people asking the dumbest questions ever.

Thank you, would love to hear some personal stories about these celebrations.

🙌

Oh wow, thank you. For some reason this statement hit me like a ton of bricks. I've got bad anxiety/worry issues and I tend to think about all the worst case scenarios. Everything feels like the end of the world to me, thanks persistent depression. But this put a lot into perspective for me. I'm going to use this statement as a tool when I feel myself spiraling with worry. Much appreciated!

Oh man, I didn't even realize this about animals. Hoofed animals are usually herbivores. That's so interesting! And a horse with claws would be terrifying!

This one hit me hard. I'm 39 and a huge movie and stand up comedy nerd, also dealing with lifelong depression, and growing up watching Robin always put me in a better place. Felt like losing a family member. I can't quite bring myself to watch much of his stuff nowadays. It almost feels like watching old home videos to me. The one exception is World's Greatest Dad. I lost my father to depression, he took his life a few years ago and I can't help feeling like I'm going to end up the same sometimes. That movie, I just connect to on such a deep level, it somehow makes me happy to watch.

I still couldn't do AA because even though it's not "religion" they still push the higher power stuff. That it's bigger than you and stuff. I never liked that because it takes the responsibility away from the person. To me, it's both. It can be a disease that you have trouble controlling while also, you have to take responsibility and learn to manage it. For me I just had to stop and avoid going to bars and stuff. But I was also a social drinker, never drank alone so staying away helped me a lot. Of course others may be different.
