TL;DR of the article - Arcane > Cyberpunk Edgerunners > Castlevania > Sonic Boom > The Last of Us > The Witcher.

I like the phrase "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely".

KOSA is not the only thing one should be worried about, illiterates from UK are bringing in an Online Safety Bill which needs all services with encryption to provide a backdoor for the UK government under the reasoning of "monitoring for CSAM content".

This doesn't just impact UK citizens, but will do for the world.

If I recall correctly, Australia did something similar.

Interesting to see how the 5-eyes try to push similar dumb ideas together.

Uhh.. not clear on what you're claiming here... you can validate the traffic is going to the expected instance using a web app, without requiring any special software by running Developer tools and heading to the network tab.

I see, but how is this different in a phone app? Wouldn't the request still be made to a backend?

Reading this, I'm not able to interpret what emotion applies here.

You could also say it is riceist

Probably as a result of this: https://youtu.be/B5d_MPw1nQs ?

Regarding the undemocratic part, let's not forget it was a part of the Axis. Ideologies of leadership don't change so easily...

I just want to play fun games that have a great and comprehendible story.

They would also need to be natively made for PC (along with any other platform that the devs/pubs might want). I understand why console ports exist but one can wish.

Some AAA game examples/concerns off the top of my head:

MGS V ? Fun gameplay, couldn't make head or tail of the story without viewing content from others, and still I feel it's way too confusing.

AC ? Things were in a good direction from a story standpoint at one point in time years ago but they lost it, didn't enjoy the new RPG-like direction as much either. Gameplay was a power fantasy thing I guess. Whether I like it or not is dependent on my mood during the session.

Skyrim ? Fun game, never got around to actually "finishing" the game because there would always be a break and I would entirely forget where and what I was doing earlier.

Souls-likes ? I don't have a problem admitting that my skills are pretty sucky. Effort required to the rewards are pretty bad for me, and there is no particular story that I have seen other than community theories.

I'm working on my years long backlog, in case anyone wants to make recommendations it'll probably take a long time for me to get to it if it isn't in the current list...

Is the Asus Zenfone available in your region ? If yes, its a pretty compact and feature rich phone.

The entire joke that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver ran about this was fantastic.

Unless the book is being bought directly from the writer, isn't it really the publisher who is gaining the rewards? My understanding is that the writer is paid a lumpsum for rights of a book by a publisher.

If the entire motto is "benefit of others", the writer themselves can publish it for the public to read openly, or make it a collaborative project where their and other people's contributions are added together.

It's not black and white, both sides of a piracy debate (much like anything else) have their arguments, and could have had reached a better medium.

My motorcycle.

It was bought due to a necessity.

I didn't quite get the motorcycle I was looking for, and had to settle for this one from a different manufacturer. During the short test ride the problems were not glaring, it was when I rode it for a somewhat long duration that I came to know how bad it was. What's worse is things changed and my necessity to need a personal mode of transport was eliminated, so I barely need to use it daily anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tried getting a few modifications done to make it a more comfortable ride, and while it's better than stock now it's still not where I need it to be.

Any particular resources that you trust to share proper information?

Over here we consider Broadcom is where things go to die a slow death. There should be some form of rule if a company is not actively working on their products / retiring them then they need to make it freely accessible to the public.

To get governments interested in it... for tracking it's own netizens... because just about everyone is dealing with CSAM!

Being in a highly technical field I agree with you in wondering the point of tablets, but I am observing a couple of people -in a local transport medium, use it as a replacement for pen-paper with an added advantage of collaboration on a document with multiple people.

I'm not bothered to check, but tablets might be cheaper than 2-in-1 or otherwise touchscreen PC laptops.

Probably because of MS's stranglehold on so many customers with their O365 and standalone Office suite ?

I just moved from Windows to Linux (currently, PopOS) this year around.

You can try out beginner friendly distributions like PopOS, Linux Mint, ZorinOS which are Ubuntu-Debian based or Fedora. Like others have mentioned, applications made on Linux are expected to be cross-compatible with all distributions so your choice will mainly come down to what desktop environment you like as there are many with different feel to the user experience.

To know what works for you try these out in a VM if possible before biting the bullet so you know what all packages are present in Linux, and what all of your usecase will need to be managed through WINE/Proton compatibility layers.

You would want to avoid Ubuntu, and installing anything through Snap or PPA repositories if it ever comes up in your searches.

Yep, it ran for a whole season.

Edit: I don't remember which season it was on, it was a couple of seasons ago. Probably just after the Ben Swolo thing became popular.

Looks like someone has come from r/puns

You could add Summoning Salt to this list. I'm not really otherwise interested in world record attempts, but something about his narration is so good.

Another fun addition could be Oversimplified.

I was on an interview call, and I was responding to his queries about a specific tool because that is what was mentioned in the job post.

After 2-3 questions, he says talk about some other tool which is okay, but then he starts asking questions outside of the technical requirements which I only knew surface level information about.

Upon pointing it out to him, he says there may be anything written on the job post, you should know how to read between the lines. I was a little confused, and realised it was not worth it to argue with someone who seemed disinterested in the interview itself.

Edit: wording changes.

Warez piracy is anyway not "stealing" since you're not taking the digital item away, tis something which can be infinitely copied.

Not quite sure about the On by default aspect; on my non-Google phone running stock android, it keeps asking me to enable RCS.

I keep clicking no because there's a lot of ads pushed through RCS. This is annoying on top of the usual telemarketing stuff you might get due to phone numbers being sold.

I just switched to Linux with PopOS about a month ago. My aging HDD is about to die because of bad sectors, and I was able to get myself a great deal on a 1 TB Crucial P3. Got it and decided to install Linux instead of cloning my HDD.

There are minor pains of using Linux over Windows and trying to run Windows programs on it, but it is so much better now compared to even just a year or so ago.

Now I am thinking about how insane it would be for MP gamers when someone puts the game on hold for an indiscriminate amount of time.

TTY seesion is definitely not a desktop experience, the pizzaz is lacking which makes it difficult to use for all purposes. I've used it mainly for specialized work on servers.

You could just switch your Desktop Environment/Windown Manager with a TTY session to Ctrl+Alt+F2 (F3, ..., F7) and not install any Xorg/Wayland DE on these sessions.

More drastic measures would be to install a Server version, or remove the DE/WM from the install.

This adds up really nicely with the newest video of Razbuten "How Games Make Villains Sound Evil"

I have hopped around using VMs in the past, however this year my HDD was dying (bad sectors after about 8-ish years of use), so got an SSD and decided to install Linux instead of cloning my Windows 10 Pro.

I tried going on Debian 11 testing, but there was some issue with the installer displaying any text (as you can imagine this makes it almost impossible to install the OS...) So I hopped to Fedora for a bit -till it broke while I was trying to figure out how to run Windows games, and then to PopOS.

I'm wondering to go to Debian 12 Testing, but need to figure out how I want to partition my SSD otherwise I am currently having to keep erasing everything which of course means I am having to copy data after each new install. This will work till such time that my HDD is alive.

Any suggestions?

Mainly from a security standpoint PPAs are something I would want to avoid.

I've not used Snap since I tried it out a couple of years ago, it wasn't as good as Flatpak in terms of performance, and there were concerns which got highlighted like it's entirely proprietary and hosted by Canonical only, I heard Snap was being forced even when you would want through system packages, and something about forced updates.

I get why Flatpak is better in terms of sandboxing each application, but I personally prefer to use system packages wherever I can.

Oh, KDE on Wayland seemed to have messed with something about display for my i5 6400 + RX 6600, because when I switched to GNOME on Xorg the problems went away.

Then I only needed to figure out how to get Ubisoft Launcher/Connect installed in the same prefix folder as Assassin's Creed Origins. I despise whoever came up with the idea of launcher-launching-launcher, and for what ? Validating key ?

You and I are part of a very small user set. I would be happy with 5.5 inch screen as well if my SoT can be 8 hours or more.

Precisely that's what he wanted to say; look at a display and read what the thought was before they wrote the description ! How naive of me...

They did figure out having 1 service for watching a huge library of movies/TV with a Netflix. But they have started imploding because of corporate greed, which is bringing back piracy by the masses.

Is this supposed to be a colourful e-ink display?

Keeping the discussion of running Windows applications through Wine/Proton aside; there are a lot of little things which happen to annoy me while I am using my PopOS install for example the most recent one is my headphones don't play any sound from the left year, it works properly on my other devices...

I'm willing to make it work, but most general users wouldn't be. This statement continues to be true even after the huge amounts of progress Linux community has made to make a better experience.

That one anyway I lost interest after talking to the interviewer. It was clear to me that he didn't want me, and he didn't even join the call for about 30 minutes.

Had to call the recruiter about 3 times in 10 minute intervals before they connected and said the interviewer will be joining.

Got done with 2 rounds of interviews at 2 other companies, but it's been over a month after that so I assume it's not proceeding further ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I continue my search...

User action is what will be the launcher.

I click on AC Origins in my Steam install should launch the game, not another launcher which has to then go and invoke the game.

No problem mate !

Once you're on Mint's page, just have a look over the other desktop environments (DE) offered. Screenshots will not tell you the entire picture, but at least you can have a look at what you don't find appealing.

But remember not to really worry about the DE, you can always install another one and remove the one you don't like.

Somewhat long form of "I use arch, BTW"
