Side note - people need to be super careful buying used cars for the next several months because of scammers cleaning up flooded cars and brining them north to sell. Check under the carpets and so on, etc. Avoid Florida cars.

They are doing their job if that job is to make money for the people selling them.

I think reddit applies an algorithm to put content in your feed that they know you want or like or interact with. That will make it more addictive. Lemmy is just grabbing stuff for you, period, with no personalized algorithm as far as I know. I could be wrong but I think thats why it feels different.

reddit manipulates their users just like Facebook and tiktok etc.

In Friends:

Monica is on coke. That's how she got thin and why she cleans so obsessively.

Also:

Phoebe is homeless, saw the others in the group in through the window of central perk one day, and the entire series is all in her head.

"sorry, your hard drive is dead. Let's play some asteroids!"

This is cool, but, if you can get by with this then did you really need to attend the meeting in the first place?

And once everyone but the meeting caller sends the bot.... Good luck with that.

X is safe and effective?

Since Elon has been very transparent about his goal of making X the everything app, by adding all this stuff and biometrics.... For security?

What could possibly go wrong?

Tbf I haven't used wordpad for a very long time. If ever.

I avoid it because if I'm editing a text file wordpad would just mess it up.

Maybe if it's an rtf file I need wordpad.

But word is available.

Toyota or lexus are most reliable, Honda (Acura) is a close 2nd. After that it isn't even close.

Yes ford's aren't all bad, especially their international designs are not bad.

After Toyota and Honda the reliable cars to buy are going to be specific models and specific years, you're going to have to find the many youtube mechanic commentary videos "buy this not that" and do your research.

It may be that rather than buying the most reliable vehicle you avoid buying one of the known worst vehicles. I've been there and now I own 2 Toyotas and a Honda.

And it goes without saying, before you buy anything have it inspected by an impartial mechanic you trust.

You will see that Toyotas cost a lot more than other cars. It's because the cheaper cars end up costing thousands more in the long run because of the many repairs you're going to have to do. Pay now or pay later.

They've almost destroyed search.

Its like they want to just kill the internet altogether.

Sigh I remember when they weren't evil.

I live my life one stop at a time. For that few minutes at a time, I'm free.

Some people deliberately store things - like towels or place mats - in the oven.

Usually older people.

Someone not aware of that goes to bake something - big problem

I'm sure op meant to say "in minecraft"

right, the scam is taking a flood car north and not disclosing flood damage to an unsuspecting northerner.

It seems like it always happens every time there's a bad flood/hurricane etc.

Obviously the complete Stargate franchise. Humans don't put up with aliens tryin' to pull any shit.

Wait a minute.....

Some would say the fentanyl problem right now is payback for the opium thing

I was once on hold with zoom for over 2 hours. I think they were very upset with me that I persisted. In the end they were zero help.

This comic is about zoom.

Right now the best cheap laptop I know of with usb c charging etc is the t480 and t580. A refurb or renew with an i5 and 16gb ram is around 300 or less all day long. They are cheap to buy, cheap to fix, modify, or replace and will run great now and for years to come.

With the internal and external batteries, they can have 2 at once, they can run all day easily and then some.

Get the 1080 screen tho.

For $500 or less they can be had with i7 and bigger ram for more powerful duties.

They just don't disappoint.

We all did...

No low ballers I know what I got

I think the world needs something like that right now, there is a lot of division and angst right now in society. We are divided a new way about every other week it seems like.

It used to not matter so much because we weren't connected so instantly with 24 hour news and the internet, but now it seems like everyone's differences are front and center.

Letting everyone know that we are all human and all have so much in common despite what differences we may have might just make someone's day. And it could spread to more and more people on its own.

You could just save the world!

Yeah they're making money but I just saw where "traditional" tv watchers is below 50% now for the first time, the cash flow of the cable /satellite tv subscriptions is in big trouble and everyone was sorta relying on that. The old media production model is dead and I think this strike is related to that.

Spoiler - they will secretly have all humans in ai generated art have slightly messed up hands.

Mind blown!

I believe a lot of the posts and replies that rile an individual up, on social media, are put there by bots. Intentionally to rile people up.

I think social unrest is desired by certain groups and factions.

The linux developers have done an awesome job and linux has come so far it's amazing. But for the vast majority of computer users they don't even know what a terminal is, period, and linux is useless to them unless a Linux user sets it up for them for a very specific use case and that's all they ever do with it.

If all they want is an email and web appliance, a typical computer ignorant user can use linux if it is given to them by someone else.

Yet an ignorant computer user can go and buy a Mac or a windows machine from a retailer and get the job done without having to know anything at all other than they want a computer for x y or z.

Its like the linux developers can't fathom a PC experience without the terminal as a vital participant.

Yeah theyve been around for a long time for media stuff specifically, will have to check it out for electronics in general.

I know there's many nights I've spent working on things in some other universe, like working on projects, building things, figuring out stuff, there's other people there, it's like I know them and they know me. Its probably just a dream but what if it isn't?

Reminds me of the st voy ep where 7of9 visits that alternate place while she regenerates.

Indeed however that would necessitate having an optical drive

If the reason is actually for leaving 0days open then it is actually for the USA. Since the USA spies on foreign citizens such as UK citizens, the UK spies on the USA citizens.

Because otherwise it would be illegal. Or something.

There are an absurd amount of perfectly good books and /or audio books out there. TV or movie as the only way to pass the time indoors may stop being the case. If it does I'm ready.

I've got tears in my fro...

Look at those chompers!

An ac system with dirty humidifier portions or stagnant water from the condensate system being plugged can start growing things like mold in the wet filthy areas and cause legionnaires disease or other health issues.

A properly functioning ac system just cools and dries the air.

There is a belief that going from hot and humid summer air to cold and dry ac air and back, constantly all day long, can make you sick.

I have no idea if that is true.

A central hvac system could potentially move particles of infectious materials from one room to another but whether that would make someone sick is debatable due to how short lived virus particles are and other factors.

Some commercial systems utilize ultra violet sections and hepa filters to kill and stop airborne contaminants and allergens.

Yeah I didn't even know who he was until a few months ago. Yet he is the top channel.

YouTube/Google knows who you are and has a profile of you and your interests no matter what you do.

You have to truly obfuscate your identity to escape it.

By getting butthurt from seeing objectionable content it is still interaction and the algorithm links it to you. Your likes and dislikes are both part of your identity and they know that and use it.

Because interaction with the website is all that matters, happy or angry they don't care.

In fact, they probably prefer you to be butthurt because you are more engaged.

I thought the movie did a decent job of telling the story considering the limitations of the medium.

According to the author many studios have approached him over the years with unacceptable alterations and that one was the first one to come along with anything good enough.

He said it had to be literally children, first of all, and they always wanted to change that.
