I'm ok with a decent amount of tech in a car. Like I'm fine being able to connect my phone to the car and have android auto take over the infotainment system.
But the HVAC stuff needs to be buttons I can access/control without looking or very minimal looking.
I don't want/need my car to have a SIM card, or connect to wifi, and report what I'm doing. If they want to do that, then they can give me the car for free and I'll drive it around letting them collect my driving habits.
Edit: Oh, and I'm sure as hell not paying some subscription fee on top of the price of the car.
Please make her go away
I'll continue to not watch shorts, tik toks, reels or any other ADHD inducing short form content.
It has seemed to work on less and less sites for me recently, to the point that I do not visited it as often as I used to.
But that tweet does sound like pretty bad news...
Don't always align with him policy wise, but man do I like him as a human being. Always focusing on solutions to issues, not attacking others.
But a "kill switch" doesn't address the issue. I mean while it's "killed" it does but whenever it's not, the data privacy concerns are in full swing.
It 100% brought me here. Didn't know what Lemmy was until the chaos over there. ultimately deleted my account never looked back. And that was a lot of eyeball time they lost from me.
We're missing the overall mass of people that both generate new, and answer questions on the content that was there, but I'm OK with that and I actually get better engagement here with those missing mass of people. I'm sure there's a point of more is not better when it comes to users.

This is great news and just absolutely amazing what NASA has achieved here. Keep going Voyager(s)!!!
What I hear is 61% of Americans should be voting for politicians that want to support and bolster social security.
There are a few pieces of software I use (regularly) that would continue to get money from me if they followed the old model of paying for major versions. (pay for v1, get v 1.1-1.9) with v2 being the next "big" update that you'd have to pay an upgrade fee (smaller than a new purchase) to continue on the train.
But they switched to subscription model, and lost me as an "active" customer.
YNAB is the big one I use at least weekly, sometimes daily. I am on YNAB4 until it will no longer function because I'm not paying them a monthly fee to use that product. I would have GLADLY paid for major updates/changes even if it equaled the subscription in the end. But each of those purchases would be a decision I made on whether the change had enough value for me.
Subscriptions allow them to not strive for large enough improvements to warrant a version update / upgrade fee. They just run along with little or no useful changes (IMHO).
If only there was some way to completely prevent this from happening...
It's almost like essential services are just entirely too expensive. You know the simple things like housing, food, and health care.
On the bright side... Um, well... I'll have to get back to you on that one.
Glad we bought a bidet after the last wrath of morons did this.
Slightly less gouging
Hello fellow Hoosier, I emailed our school superintendent last year when the stupid book banning bill thing was proposed, and then passed. I wanted to know if there would be a way to tell if people requested books to be banned, so I could go out and buy them for my kid to read. (because obviously they must be read worthy)
I followed up with him recently since the bill had passed. He did, at least, inform me that no ban requests have been made. So at least in our school there wasn't some crazy people waiting to start complaining and getting books removed. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to search for banned books though which I would like to see as an option.
Sooo...
I get the crazy trumper hate and stupidity 100% I wish everyone could see him for what he is and stop following blindly thinking he cares about anyone but himself.
But an 80yo shouldn't have to work or have had to work for the last 8 years. He should be collecting SS, and should not have to live in absolute squalor. But we (as a whole in America) don't care about mental health or old people, it's not profitable.
The loving trump stuff can be tied to him not being mentally sound but it shouldn't have anything to do with an 80yo getting money he likely paid into SS back out in retirement.
It was the brain worms directing him.
I listen to a podcast that is generally quite opposite of my political alignment, but I usually find it entertaining. One thing these guys believe or at least discuss quite often is that Biden is being given drugs at certain times to "kick start" him for things like the SOTU. So, I don't believe this is anything new.
Judges shouldn't be aligned to a political party (duh), but here we are...
Wish they would just apply the law with motivation like they're supposed to.
Next up, one of the most important updates for this new release from Google would be its dedicated chipset, with Pixel 9 to get the Tensor G4 SoC. However, early leaks of the Tensor G4 regarded that its benchmark test only delivered slight improvements compared to the old Tensor G3 from the Pixel 8 series, but was said to feature a new ARMv9-A core.
Where's the punch?
Ya, I'm not sure that has ever been true as a blanket statement.
From all the reports I've seen so far, they are in fact not attacking humans, just the boats. Unless this has changed.
You would think nearly half the voting population would agree and not support those that do. But here we are. Boggles the mind.
Garmin watches, IMHO more rugged and they do not put their software behind a paywall. You'll pay for it in the cost of the watch.
I've been using Garmin for fitness since about 2013, I have use a Charge HR for steps/fitness alongside my Garmin watches when I used them only for activities.
Eventually I replaced that with a garmin Fenix 3HR that did steps, activities and looked good enough to wear all the time
I have a Fenix 6 now.
Its crazy how much further ahead Europe is in Privacy Protection.
All these companies need to be held responsible for what they do with our data, and what it costs them when they lose control of it. Either figure out how to safe guard it or suffer painful consequences. Or perhaps only store what's necessary for us to interact.
Ya, I get it... But now they're actively participating in making the students education worse.
No doubt, it's a lose/lose situation. But I find it quite sad for the innocent kids getting caught up in stupid adult stuff. And believe me... I use "adult" strictly to define age/authority position, not mental or maturity level.
Latest thing I noticed is at least with the home devices you can no longer get who/what band is playing.
It only tells you the song name. The band/artist is the primary reason I ask, not the song title.
Top on my premium wish list is a way to disable them completely
"Plead Guilty" ... If it was a railroad, as he states in the article, I think I'd have gone with an innocent plea.
We've always been at war with eastasia... Sad state of affairs for sure.
And as long as people keep subscribing to them, they'll March right along collecting that sweet money.
I can tell you why I do. I watch more YT than anything else (on my TV), and don't want to watch ads, or play cat and mouse games trying to prevent them. I also listen to a lot of music, and use YT Music. I pay for the family plan, since we all listen to music, and my son and I watch a lot of YT (very different videos on YT however :) )
I get, there's a growing group of people that think everything should be free, but I'm OK paying for something I use a lot, to remove ads. There should, however be more controls for paid users, like controlling whether or not you see creator ads, shorts, etc...
Or... And hear me out... Let's not encourage more crazy. There is already enough out there.
That's a lot of "ifs"
But, will they enforce it?
Welcome to the club, I was on the $14.99 Family Premium from YT Red/GPM. I left in a fit to Spotify, but crawled back since I just do not get along with Spotify. It was quite an increase to $22.99, but I literally watch YT as my main source of entertainment, and listen to YT music via Android Auto in my car, as well as through the house all the time. So I am getting a lot of use out of it. but I am not sure I could stomach another increase anytime soon.
Just FYI, it was wallet originally, moved to "pay" then both existed for way too long with not really knowing which did what
Now we're back to wallet.
🤦♂️
I disagree with this completely. I believe if he had been killed his supporters would massively ramp up the division that exists now, which would be bad. Revenge, and Retribution are terms used by trump and his followers. I think under that reality it would have triggered some awful things.
Ya, a PR nightmare for the next 15 minutes until the next unbelievable thing comes along and the ADD nature of people forgets windows is watching everything they do.
