I attended a talk in 2019 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee on Solid, which sort of seems related to what you are getting at. The idea being that you own your data/identity, and can decide to share it with third parties. It goes over things like files, but I believe login identities were also meant to be part of it, I see when I scroll down:

I've been wondering recently, especially with Pixelfed adding login with Mastodon recently, if anyone has heard or experienced anything with that project. But considering I haven't seen it spoken about or implemented since then, I'm not sure I should be hopeful
Firefox runs really poorly for twitch and youtube videos for me in linux; mainly in CPU. Brave will use maybe 10-20% of my cpu for a single twitch stream whereas firefox uses about 80%. I use firefox for all my browsing, but for videos it just doesn't seem to work well... Perhaps a different chromium browser would be better as you say.
Just to add another concrete example, I saw a toot recently that .af may be risky, as some countries are beginning to implement embargoes; the person who had a domain there may be losing it soon
Just a note that the original team moved to PrivacyGuides. I didn't do much reading into the entire ordeal as it seems like a sort of each side has a story ( here's privacyguides ), but you can see on the site you linked it seems to be a bunch of ads and crypto now.
One thing I'm trying to keep an eye on is sup. Not much information at all besides a snippet of 1 to 1 encrypted messaging for activitypub, but the tidbit of working with any fediverse account is interesting. Potentially that could help deal with the different fediverse implementations of messaging. Of course, like I said, this is just me making up assumptions, it could not work the way I envision it at all. The creator just posted something 5d ago about it with "soon" though, so I'm hoping to read more about it

There's some relevant discussion here and in the thread linked by ernest in that post here. I don't want to give any wrong information, but I don't think activitypub has a spec for downvotes/reduces/dislikes, just likes and shares (boosting). So on mastodon dislikes definitely aren't federated. I believe for lemmy, they federate between lemmy instances that have them enabled, but for kbin they are local to your instance.
You appear to be on kbin, so you would go to https://kbin.social/settings/general and under Homepage select "Subscriptions" and then Click "Save" at the bottom of the page

He did say it would be "federated this week" but in the next comment in that issue he made he said that changed "but it turns out it's not easy, and I wouldn't want to make such a big change hastily". I don't think anything has happened since. I definitely almost never see any reduces over here on a different kbin, so I think it's still the same. There is still some discussion in that issue, someone just posted they have a PoC of doing it in a fork for instance.

Appreciate the level-headed reply in this thread. There's a lot of fingerpointing and hostility going on and I'd appreciate it if people would make less assumptions / jumps to attack people. I'm not sure if you or anyone else can confirm, but I agree with ernest that federation of mod actions was working once before. Without knowing exactly why it stopped, it's hard to say what is going on.
For instance, I just coordinated with the admins of startrek.website as their latest maintenance started blocking user agents with curl in it, which is what kbin sends, meaning all kbin instances stopped being able to get images from their instance. It seems like this is true for multiple other lemmy instances. I didn't follow up with any other admins at the moment, but I think from that, and the fact that back when I originally signed up people would constantly complain kbin federation was broken when it was lemmy.ml that was blocking kbin, it's not a good idea to jump to assumptions on why something isn't working.
Check out https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/1019 to see if it's similar to what other people have posted about recently: tl;dr blocking domains appears to filter out posts / comments even when those domains are not involved in the post. I'll repost what I put in one of the threads:
If posts are disappearing when you're logged in but not when logged out, it should be something like that: either a language filter, federation turned off, or a blocked community you might not expect filtering it out. You can double check by unblocking domains/magazines to see if any of them return comments, though that might be troublesome with many blocked.

One more question if you wouldn't mind, do you happen to remember if you got an error while posting this thread? Understandable if you don't; one of the newer kbinmeta posts mentioned getting an error while posting and their thread doesn't have a domain, but a different thread they posted afterwards does have a domain, so I'm trying to see if there's a link between getting an error when posting and a post not having a domain
Believe you're correct. I think cooperaj mentioned it in the issue but they experienced the same thing, when you get the error it does not appear to federate.
It being interacted with, such a upvoting or boosting might make it federate after that. (I think this might actually be linked to https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/875 but am holding off without more proof.) Of course, it being interacted with to get it to federate is difficult on kbin.social where anyone who blocks any domains won't even see it in the first place :(
I don't think you have to do anything that extreme, that is, you could just upvote your own post (and if you don't want to do that, un-upvote it as well, haha). Although... I just clicked the link and lemmy.world appears to be down, at least when I tried, so maybe now isn't the best time to try to post something to them >.> (edit: actually worked right after that, guess it's just a bit spotty)
@HarkMahlberg I assumed it was a default ublock rule and not one you added so I imagine a lot of people might run into this. Well, "a lot" depending on how often a filename's sha256 hash starts with ad. At the very least it's probably good to know about it, even if nothing is changed. But perhaps there's enough reason to use a different system to name image caches like the name generators a lot of image hosters seem to use. I guess it's in the devs hands now :) thanks for sharing it
One thing to keep in mind is they don't federate with kbin.social; so they can't see your posts or replies, and can't reply to you. I believe your upvotes won't federate (maybe to other instances, but not to theirs at least). Downvotes work the same as they do for any other post as those don't federate in kbin to begin with. One-sided federation in the fediverse seems like it can be a bit confusing to users, I'm not sure in what case it's a good idea in since it can be like talking to a void.

Double check you aren't blocking the magazine https://kbin.social/m/askamericans (if the no entry symbol is lit up red next to subscribe, or you can find the full list under https://kbin.social/settings/blocked/magazines ). I know that may be unlikely but that's the only way I can think of at the moment to show No comments (verified that has said effect of showing no comments while keeping comment count). I know it's not federation turned off and it's not language filter settings as neither had that effect

I was not able to get comments to change on the thread by
- turning federation off
- setting a language filter to only any language besides english
I wonder what else I could be missing. I do see you have plugins but I can't imagine it's that, if it resolves when you log out, it must be a user setting somehow. I would consider making note of all the blocked domains / magazines you do have, maybe lift them for a second and reload the thread, and see if that fixes it. Perhaps there's a domain I'm not imagining would cause this.

This could be this issue https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/1019 which I'm trying to gain visibility on. This thread, as well as some of the others you have posted in SC [1] [2] [3] [4], all do not show a domain. If what I've written in the issue is accurate, that means kbin.social users with any domain blocked at all will not be able to see the posts or comments. Removing all blocked domains will fix it. Right now my findings are basically posts are somehow being made with no domain, and if a user blocks any domain at all, doesn't matter what it is, that will count as true and filter it out. LMK if this helps, trying to gather as much data as I can
