bunch of fuckin art pirates. crying about software piracy while they have their own bots pirating everyone's art.

man, that was such a bummer. when they got along well, they had such amazing chemistry. People change. sometimes it's good, sometimes it sucks.

What was their reason for this decision?

Officially? Something mundane, I'm sure. Unofficially and actually? The "labor shortage" we have (which is actually people being reasonably unwilling to work abusive body-destroying soul-crushing senselessly-cruel jobs for less than poverty-level wages) is causing economic damage that's visible in their portfolios, and a new massive infusion of slave labor (because prisoners can legally be used as slaves) that have no legal means to resist abuse and exploitation would fix that situation right up.

Anyone who can't keep up with the numerous corporate money vacuums in their lives (rent, rent increases, bills, bill increases, taxes, more taxes, more bill increases, grocery cost increases, more utility increases, more more more) will become homeless, and the homeless will serve as our new pool of slave labor for dirt cheap. Keep up, hustle harder, pay more, pay faster, or be put in chains and tortured in solitary confinement with moldy nutriloaf until you agree to work to death for nothing.

This conservative wet dream is coming unless we collectively pull our heads out of our asses.

this guy needs to fully, clearly, and regularly document how non-suicidal he is and have cloud-recording cameras aimed at him at all time, because I'd put good money on a Boeing exec being on the phone with their favorite hitman right now talking a lot about him.

I have reached the age where I find gags like this - and the massive cringe effect they inflict on young folks - fucking hilarious.

i'm comfortable with my fate. who ever really needed hair on their head anyway?

I just can’t imagine an executive at Boeing going out and hiring a hit man

Really? That's weird, I totally can. It's an exceptionally narrow-minded and short-sighted knee-jerk reaction to a perceived threat of one's executive career. Most coked-out executives already have a massive god complex once they get their MBA and are installed above the proles workers. I can absolutely realistically imagine one Boeing executive getting angry enough and coked-out enough to just decide, "fuck it, I'm going to fix this problem for us before he threatens my career and reputation any more".

The information you present about whistleblowing being stressful is fair. He may indeed have been driven to kill himself instead of being straight-up assassinated like others believe. I refuse, however, to give the benefit of doubt to a massive corporation who has already demonstrated a complete lack of regard for human life and an extremely poor track record of moral and ethical decision-making. This needs to be investigated under the assumption that a hit is an entirely possible reality. Unless you'd rather that nobody blows the whistle on anything in the future - you've already demonstrated that it's an incredibly stressful action. If there's the lingering remote possibility that you can be simply assassinated over it and everyone will look the other way, nobody will ever raise their voice again. The nature of his actions before his death demand a comprehensive and exhaustive investigation into if any person from Boeing had anything to do with it whatsoever, or whistleblowing will continue sliding into something only the insane consider.

fuck. here we go.

you think this money to help them retire is coming from the government? no. lol.

It's coming from us. filial responsibility laws are already on the books. if you can't fund your own retirement, get it from your kids before you're allowed to get anything from the state.

your boomer parents will reverse mortgage their house, liquidate everything, then come for your paychecks like child support, until you're tapped out permanently. they won't do it maliciously, not directly, they'll do it because it's a "requirement" of properly retiring. sorry hun, it's the law, I wouldn't if I didn't have to!

they'll drain you and keep you drained until they die. if we're lucky, the state then won't turn around and suck the state-paid care debts out of you as unfurnished filial debts.

I've prepared for you a comprehensive list, here:

"Menu prices will rise!"

nothing a bunch of two-bit con artists MBAs hate more than an informed mark customer.

The actual good businesses run by good people will not suffer by this. only those that relied on duping their customers.

so if you're regularly annoyed (1/4), angry (2/4) and spiteful (3/4) about being forced to participate in this exploitative system designed to bleed you dry until you die, you're ok still... but if you try to do anything about it (by arguing with or defying "authorities" in any way) you're an insane person that needs to be locked up and given drugs? cool. that's really convenient.

holy shit, get some perspective. how about you reign in the corporate greed, unionize, and demand more than a paltry 8 dollars an hour for your labor instead of crying about the people beneath you who have the gall to purchase meat at the grocery store like you "real" people? seems like trying to elevate everyone in your poverty-stricken county is the easier solution than trying to push the faces of the poorest of you into the mud a little bit harder. what would you have them eat, cheese its and popcorn? perhaps ebt should only allow for the purchase of loaves of white bread and paper towels? perhaps we should just kill ebt recipients, right?

people with vertical eyes must be making these vertical videos

as already mentioned, ampersand allows you to "background" a task. but if you'd like the output from your program alongside the loop monitoring system info, consider using a terminal multiplexer like tmux.

on the terminal, this will let you open a "split screen" pane with another shell. you can use hotkeys to create, destroy, or move between views.

some folks gave up and ended up with an Xbox or PC. I helped a few friends build a gaming rig and get onto Steam after they got fed up getting sniped by bots on friggin best buy lol

sweet, a quantum immortality tester that prints money.

ok deanna

yep. aka a plausible way to jam Russian money into his pockets in return for future favors without leaving an obvious trail

imo, it's a semantic attack, and it's been very effective. art, drawings, paintings, animations, movies, shows, music, poetry, books, code, games, any free human creative venture: it is all suddenly (and falsely) insinuated to only be possible when placed inside a "platform". you and I may know this isn't true, but most people could not defend against this hostile idea or simply could not identify it as such, and now falsely believe human expression is only "real" when it's inside a company's ad-filled self-reinforcing skinner box.

oh no
it's me
i'm the naked window neighbor
i'm naked sitting on the edge of my bed right now after my shower. my bedroom window, right across from me, is open for fresh air.

look, it's my own bedroom. the breeze is really nice. maybe don't look in my windows? it's not like i'm trying to give anyone a show, it's just one of those things in life, like how guys all get naked together in a locker room without acknowledging it, or how airport security people fondle you angrily in ways not ordinarily permitted in polite society and nobody needs to bring it up after. you don't have to look, is what i'm saying. sorry if you can't help it. let's just move on!

for most Americans, fired also just means you've probably just become responsible for your own family's ruin. for most of our working poor, being more than 10 minutes late is a quick route to eviction and years of more crippling debt for them and whoever else might be at home with them, which could well immediately destroy other's major life plans like college for kids, moving somewhere cheaper, eldercare, even medical treatments or medication, etc.

this doesn't make driving like this less dangerous or inadvisable, of course, but the folks saying what you're saying should be aware that for a lot of folks, the certain risk of the firing is often similarly dire to the uncertain risk of driving like this.

if you knew your partner on your work health plan was going to suffer or die without continued treatment if you're ever more than 10 minutes late to work, you'd probably consider driving like this too when you overslept because you're sick or something. it only takes one little slip-up.

most of this is sensible but who seriously would ever do those nature's valley bars dirty like this?? they're so good.

i'm not mad, i'm just disappointed...

Hey man,

you're probably fine. I don't know the details, but humans are fallible. you're only human. friends should know this, they're only human too. I doubt these friends have all been perfect all the time, and I doubt they'll do everything perfect from here on out.

If it caused a problem, tell them the truth. you double booked. you had to pick one over the other. you feel bad you flaked. you don't intend to make it a habit.

if it cost people something, consider making it up somehow. but I would propose that unless it's cost them real bad, good friends ought to accept the apology without expecting the compensation. they'll mess up someday too, and it's better for everyone to be kind.

don't hate yourself. it does no good for anyone. counterproductive and undeserved. develop a system to help you. you can't always change your nature, but you can build around it.

OK but piracy isn't stealing it is basically a harmless free copy. The issue here is corporations want to have their cake and eat it too, but to prohibit us all from either having or eating any cake ever. Corpos like that have zero right to my consideration or care.

same. I buy a lot of software/games and media/music/movies, and before I buy I always make sure I can pirate it down the road if I need to. if I can't, I reconsider how much I need it. I'll switch to my pirated copy at the drop of a hat without a drop of guilt. if it has annoying or unperformant drm? it makes me sign up for an account to use my paid software on my own computer? its servers go down and it won't boot? switched.

wow. does the factory that made it have absolutely no quality control processes in place? I would be embarrassed to own a vehicle that did that, and more than a little worried about its safety.

You are repeating a story designed for the rubes.

Trying to shame conservatives like this doesn't work. They're actively proud of being gullible, stupid, victims to their celebrities. It's their entire identity. They see this and think "hell yeah, you don't want me repeating the story?? I better do it harder anyway!" - it doesn't matter that you are actually saying "btw this makes you look very dumb and gullible", all they heard was "i don't like this", and since you're The Enemy™, they love what you don't and hate what you do, and they double down on whatever it was, to Win Harder™.

This is why they'll often seem to take self-defeating or self-contradictory positions, and if you point that out, they take it as winning against you twice (instead of proving themselves wrong) and go straight to calling you a loser and patting themselves on the back.

clearly a landing pad for alien anglers

that spent their retirement money to purchase shares

don't invest (or gamble) what you can't afford to lose.

using some people's poor money management skills as an excuse to justify exploitation of the source of your windfall is exceptionally stupid.

a receding tide beaches all boats. every time something like this happens, another genius with another big idea sees it and decides it's not worth it if they're just going to get the result stripped away from them by parasitic suits.

a person in his care and custody

hahaha

they would be showing this video at the academy as a demonstration of a failure to kill the guy in the back seat, therefore allowing all this to look ridiculous. to other cops, this is a grim tale of not sufficiently escalating the reality of the situation to match their internal narrative, and with this cop's public humiliation, a demonstration of how vital it is that there be a corpse if you ever act rashly for some reason.

Yep, same for me. It's hard to explain. It's unfair, because it's so arbitrary, but something about him feels somehow insincere, and it makes me uncomfortable.

You're utterly incapable of even considering people who disagree with you as fully human

I've said and believe nothing of the sort. you're confusing my ideology with the fascist dehumanizing ideology your party espouses to justify inhuman practices against foreigners and domestic minorities.

surprised when [we] loathe and hate you

this doesn't surprise me at all. your entire political ideology would collapse if you didn't unconditionally loathe someone. you're putting the cart before the horse.

certainty that everyone but you is stupid

well, if someone does things that are really stupid over and over, is told that they're stupid and provided evidence accordingly, but continues to do so anyway... quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, probably is. it's hard to see it otherwise. I actively try to remember there's a real person with a rich internal life on the other end, despite what you think otherwise, and despite the lack of reciprocal consideration from Republicans.

So you didn't say "They’re actively proud of being gullible, stupid, victims to their celebrities?"

i did indeed say that. what I didn't say - and what I was clearly referring to with that quote you've pulled about me not saying a thing - is that I don't view them as human, as you insinuated I said. if that's your interpretation, you are incorrect. perhaps you've gotten confused by which part of my response correlates to which part of your messages. or perhaps you're intentionally misconstruing it to make it appear as though you're "dunking on me", as usual for arguments with conservatives.

I doubt you could even begin to explicate the conservative ideology in broad strokes

i doubt it too, because there is a constant fundamental disconnect between what conservatism purports to be and what it actually practices. I doubt it's possible for you to explicate it either in a way that isn't immediately contradicted with the actions taken by your leaders and community, too. the closest thing to a stable ideology conservatism has had in the past 20 years is "liberals are the enemy: do the opposite of whatever they say, even if we were telling you to do it 10 minutes ago".

No you don't. Stop bullshitting yourself.

perhaps I should have emphasized "try". it gets harder with every interaction with yet another deranged conservative lunatic who wants to make me illegal or dead because my mere quiet existence is somehow a threat to their misplaced feelings of superiority. I'm only human.

i'm sleepy so let's wrap it up like you all like to do: This has been fun, thanks for taking the L.

I'm not even talking about those people or those scenarios.

you call them the extreme scenario, but they are the norm. this kind of scenario is the average reality for a massive number of Americans. it might not be "single parent with a flat tire", but there are thousands of ways people get stuck in a rut with only credit as a lifeline, and it's getting more and more common, and it's rarely something that could be foreseen or mitigated against. that's how our society is constructed now. desperation is the norm. it's profitable.

that is what this trend reveals. the ones who buy more than they need on credit they barely qualify for are the minority. the desperate are the majority.

you'd think you'd take some personal responsibility over your ignorance on the matter before loudly asserting that desperate people need to just pull up on their bootstraps harder and stop whining near you.

like how a group of crows is a "murder", I hold that a group of coffees is a "nebula"

People who are modifying Windows this deeply are not going to switch to Linux

I did. I was a heavy Windows customizer and deeply understand it as an operating system and target for application development. I left because, at some point, I realized the OS I (one way or another) paid for was treating me like a product instead of a user, and I resent that. I don't like the feeling of slowly losing grip on the OS as it slides into becoming adtech tooling for marketing interests instead of the thing that runs programs for me. Despite my entrenched Windows knowledge, none of my primary personal computers run it anymore, including my gaming PC. Adaptation is a lot easier than most people expect, in my opinion.

I don't believe I'm immune to advertising but I don't think advertisers are willing to admit that it's just as easy to create negative brand associations as positive brand associations. when the only exposure you have to a product is frustrating and irritating and offensive, these feelings can bleed over when you see them on a shelf later.

after many years of trying to ignore advertising and pretending I'm not influenced by it, I've admitted I am, just like everyone else. so instead of resisting the effects, I try to turn the feeling of brand familiarity into a warning sign: if I'm drawn by familiarity to a particular product, I question why before I buy. if the answer isn't "a friend or i have used it and found it valuable/good", then i remind myself that it's not good enough on its own. they have to try and trick me into liking it, so it can't be that good. if it were good, they wouldn't have to drop dump trucks of cash into an ad agency to try and trick people into buying it. an ad for a thing means the thing is shit.

same. an ad for a thing means the thing is shit. they have to try and trick you to get it instead of letting its quality organically speak for itself.

when things are actually good, you don't need an ad agency to tell you.

The content, for sure. I'll just ask they provide their own USB drive, or I'll buy a good one for them and fill it if they'll comp me for that.

I have done this. it can be quite messy but it will definitely import the albums of all the music you have either liked or followed or in playlist in Spotify.

I'm not 100% that it will actually organize it as it was originally on Spotify, though, just that it adds the list's contents as "wanted tracks". I assume there's some way to do this but I haven't looked into it enough yet.

It's still on my list, along with figuring out how to get Critical Role working with my Sonarr so I can be done with YouTube frontends..
