He says "powered by or funded by Google". Firefox depends on Google financially, most of the income of Mozilla comes from Google paying for being the default search engine.

They try to diversify their income (Firefox VPN, email alias service, etc.), but anything they try gets a huge backlash from the community, and still small compared to the the money from google.

I found they have a newsletter, that sounds like an acceptable middle ground, not good, not terrible.

Ram and sata cable faults have similar symptons as well.

Never heard of Transsion before:

Transsion sells mobile phones in Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Latin America. It operates mobile phone brands Tecno, Itel, and Infinix, as well as after-sales support service Carlcare and accessories brand Oraimo

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transsion

No license file (yet?), but source code (or something like that) is on github: https://github.com/EmissarySocial/bandwagon

It seems like it's an example app built with the Emissary Social Toolkit: https://emissary.dev/ https://github.com/EmissarySocial/emissary AGPL3

mastodon.social, the "default" instance federates. If you have an account there you can see zuckerberg's profile with this link: https://mastodon.social/@zuck@threads.net/ without an account this redirects to threads

On other federating instances just search for @zuck@threads.net

I use wallabag. There is paid hosted version, but you can install it on your server. You can tag, star and mark read/unread your bookmarks. There is a webapp, browser extensions, mobile apps for all platforms, and apps for ebook readers.

I use this workflow, and used it on reddit as well. Here I have different accounts on different instances. Mobile apps lets you change between them easily. On desktop I just open them in a different tabs.

That's changeing: in the ongoing SFC vs Vizio, SFC is just a regular user: https://sfconservancy.org/copyleft-compliance/vizio.html

Even FSF updated it's FAQ, that it's not true anymore: https://www.fsf.org/news/fsf-to-be-deposed-in-sfc-v-vizio-updates-relevant-faq-entry

Most of reddit was already archived before: https://the-eye.eu/redarcs/

I can already read the title of the page and see the favicon, so it actually doesn't show new information. If I accidentally move my mouse there it covers a big part of the page i'm looking at

Google had to happen, manually updating a registry of all site was unsustainable with the growth of the internet.

And the concept of SEO is actually older than the internet, "AAA Plumbing" from yellow pages was also optimized for the algorithm of the the telephone registry, which was simply alphabetical order. Just different algorithm and different scale.

Between 1860 and 1930:

Between 1860 and 1930, exploitation of the rich land of the pampas strongly pushed economic growth.[3] During the first three decades of the 20th century, Argentina outgrew Canada and Australia in population, total income, and per capita income.[3] By 1913, Argentina was among the world's 10th wealthiest states per capita.[4]

AOSP and lower level firmware modifications

But it's android, so linux, so GPL2, so they have to share these modifications (if they really exist). It's bootleg until soneone sues them.

What exactly is a KYC selfie? Is it a photo of an ID card? I figured out WUI is WebUI. The author uses some strange acronyms I never heard before.

It's very American that they can steal your identity with just one photo. My European state issued ID has data on both sides, so if someone would take a photo of it won't be enough for anything. Also if you loose it you just get a new one and noone can use the old one for anything.

Start menu was separated from explorer.exe since 8 or 10, it's called StartMenuExperienceHost.exe nowadays. Taskbar is also a separate process since 11. It also means that they can freeze separately

Unlike well-moderated torrent sites, Bitmagnet adds almost any torrent it finds to its database. This includes mislabeled files, malware-ridden releases, and potentially illegal content. The software tries to limit abuse by filtering metadata for CSAM content, however.

There are plans to add more curation by adding support for manual postings and federation. That would allow people with similar interests to connect, acting more like a trusted community. However, this is still work in progress.

I think it's not ready for mainstream use yet, but seems absolutely promising. This will be the most important, how they will solve this without a central authority. Here in the Fediverse admins are basically this authority, I can't imagine how it could work in a true P2P fashion.

The most important questions about any p2p service:

  • why would anyone store my data?
  • why would I store someone else's data?
  • how can i be sure that someone else's data is not CSAM: i found the answer you can select what repos to sync

It seems to me it's IPFS again, but now for git repos. And it has the same problems as IPFS

The new AI features require internet, and they are running on their servers, so it should affect those as well. They have a "generative fill" "neural filters" which adds features to your image, so they definitely needs your full image to generate something.

In cracked photoshop these tools are not working, obviously. So i guess if you use these cloud tools than you send your images directly to adobe hq.

Forget docker run, docker compose up -d is the command you need on a server. Get familiar with a UI, it makes your life much easier at the beginning: portainer or yacht in the browser, lazy-docker in the terminal.

Maybe it was a short dissertation, but the standard grew huge, it's 986 pages: https://www.iso.org/standard/75839.html

This is the reason there are few pdf editors, and their features vary greatly, it's a huge task to impement that standard from scratch.

Yes, I know, but that shouldn't be a norm.

There was a case this year, where SFC, a nonprofit organization won against Vizio for LGPL violation. It's important, because SFC was just a normal consumer, not the owner of the original code. So now just a random user can sue this Rabbit company, and they should win, more details here: https://blog.lukaspanni.de/2024/01/09/the-significance-of-the-vizio-judgment-for-open-source-compliance-programs/

Edit: the case is not settled yet, but ongoing since 2021: https://sfconservancy.org/copyleft-compliance/vizio.html

And there are other funny solutions, like when a Chinese "tech influencer/diy maker" Naomi Wu aka SexyCyborg just simply walked into the office of a Chinese manufacturer, and requested the source code in person: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj04MKykmnQ

Why do you link to this website instead of wikipedia?

In 2017, Beale launched Infogalactic, an English-language wiki encyclopedia.[31] The site was a fork of the contents of English Wikipedia which could be gradually edited to remove the influence of what Beale described as "the left-wing thought police who administer [Wikipedia]".[6][32] It has been described by Wired and The Washington Post as a version of Wikipedia targeted to alt-right readers.[6][33]

From here

If you don't want to support this questionable site, you can read this on wikipedia as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mother_of_All_Demos
