My guess is it has to do with effective use of resources. The tuition is free to the student but not the taxpayer. Teachers and administrators don’t work for free. If you can’t get through state funded education up to high school then the chances probably aren’t great for college. Those seeking a second chance could always complete a ged and get the benefit, hopefully.

I can understand what you are getting at. Ideally, the burden of proof should be absolute. If not then the death penalty should be off the table.

I can see where you are coming from and do not disagree. However these decisions have to be made in aggregate and proportionally, the “geniuses” that failed or dropped out of highchool, are most likely a small minority compared to the overall population.

Call Barry

No, you see I do know. I was able to get many people to go searching for some examples because they were so sure but came up empty handed just like you. Throwing around terms of murder and racism in here like they lost their true meaning.

My point is people dying of disease does not attribute blame to someone else, unless it is a targeted infecting by a bad actor. The disease is the killer. There is no bad faith here. I wish you well.

Who said screw them? I’m not rich. Hard work and sacrifice is what allowed me to do it. They aren’t crazy expensive and buying used is always an option. I’m sure others of modest means could do it too.

I don’t think calling anyone stupid makes a good point.

Murder people? Oh that’s a new one. Can you share?

Got nothing left but to call me names? Cheers man and good luck, you probably need it

Help me out bro

That made me chuckle. However it seems to go against the premise of your argument. Kill more to prevent the killing of one? I’m afraid there is no good solution. Maybe neuralink will one day allow us to read the memories of those accused for definite convictions.

I’m glad you took the time to write that out. You took it exactly where I wanted to continue my original comment but didn’t want to over topic a single comment. I have lived in several different countries and am very aware of how America is perceived around the world. Unfortunately I believe that reputation is beyond repair due to decades of abuse of our standing by many presidents.

You really hit the nail on the head with the two-party system. The blind voting along party lines is the greatest threat to the country and the left vs right clashing could be our downfall. Politicians that want to do the right thing don’t even have a chance because “the party” decides their fate. George Washington warned against the party system in his farewell address. It is why I will not be voting for either party at this next election, but I will be voting. Thank you for showing that there is still civility among Americans and here is to hoping for a better future for us all.

They are creating a gold backed cryptocurrency as we speak! The holy grail of currency that cannot be manipulated like fiat. Texas is a step ahead of the rest.

He’s not “my guy”. Just putting things in perspective around here. This is fat and content America and not Weimar Germany so good luck putting together a path to a “final solution”. Almost hysterical. Trump seems to be the only one against war unlike almost all establishment politicians. Biden is slinging bombs and artillery like our GDP depends on it…oh it does. I’d love to see some examples of these threats towards “The Others” because I don’t see them. Illegal immigrants, sure, they can gtfo, we have laws for a reason.

We can agree that Trump should not be the President. That is obvious but we should not fear whoever holds the position. The foundational structure of our branched government with functional checks and balances along with the constitution are the reasons America has and will continue to persevere.

I never said it couldn’t suck. It clearly failed in 2021. But to call it a flat out joke is also wrong.

I just read an article about Dean Phillips (democratic candidate) going to a Trump rally and speaking to many of those in attendance. On CNN he talked about how “thoughtful, hospitable, and friendly” they were. Weird. My life is great thanks ;)

I would not say executing innocents is a good thing. I understand your compassion though. It speaks well to you. Unfortunately there is usually no being made whole when it comes to tragedy. I believe the bar for proving guilt when the death penalty is involved is quite high. I have seen the cases of the few exonerated from death row and I am thankful for that. There are people out there fighting for those wrongly accused. However, there are many more clear cut open and shut cases of those not deserving to exist among their fellow man who have done things to the innocent that are hard to even read.

By your methodology, should we also take away seat belts in cars? I maintain my ac so it is always in working order and ready to handle extreme heat. Also a generator on hand to back it up just in case. Not pathetic my friend, just ready.

Can you tell me how many? I would say 0 since pride and ignorance can’t kill anyone but a blockage of the lungs caused by a disease sure will!

Righteous view point. Ignore the rude comments from those lacking in vocabulary and tact. They aren’t winning anyone over. The government should be of sufficient size and no larger. It is an entity that produces nothing of economic value and is inefficient with resources (our tax dollars). Should it be a revolving door from the heads of the FDA to ludicrous salary jobs at big pharma? The same goes for Ag, EPA, FBI, FCC, SEC, etc. Hell the board and shareholders of our central bank (The Fed) ARE the big banks. I’m sure those seeking high ranking government positions do it for altruistic reasons. Sheeple gonna sheeple.

There is always going to be a risk in extreme weather for power issues. I don’t believe increased government regulation is going to help as they are terrible at doing things efficiently and cost effectively. Texas has some of the cheapest power which is great for those of modest means and it would be a shame to change that for those choosing between a meal or their power bill. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Jan 6 was a big nothing burger. Filling a room with people is all it takes to take over a country these days??

Hey person I am against corruption as much as anyone. All human systems are corruptible and we need to be realistic. To think that “they” are being malicious is probably not correct. I don’t think the many thousand of people involved in the power industry laugh about people dying in extreme weather. Nor the ones at the top. They believe a free market for energy has benefits that outweigh the negatives. If anyone has evidence of real corruption I will gladly pick up my pitchfork and join the party. There are bad apples in almost every bunch and should be rooted out.

Any suggestions for alternatives? The poor unfortunate souls on death row salute you. Can’t cause them any distress now. I’m sure their victims got the same consideration.

Was that your whole comment? What reality am I missing here? I haven’t derided or put down anyone on this site. In fact most people on here seem quite rude. Everyone just gets their undies in a bunch over views that don’t align with theirs.

And? These were just facts. I’m not calling for secession nor do I think it is a good idea. Better together than apart.

You mean Hitler? Trump is pretty similar in regards to amassing a strong base of followers since he is in touch with his supporters. It’s impressive actually how much of a movement he has created whether you like it or not. The hysteria around Trump on Lemmy and how much he lives in the lefts head and consistently gets free press around here is proof of that. Pretty lacking in similarity however in the mass murder of innocents and other terrible things Hitler is actually remembered for. Keep trying though!

Is he racist? I tried some searching but can’t find any examples

Did you have a point?

Nah just facts easily findable on the internet

You don’t have to write a comment to block. But it does show your need for public validation.

No but I’m shocked by how many people want to just throw open the border doors. Have you seen the numbers flowing in? It’s only going to get worse as the world economy crumbles. The money used to support it comes from our taxes. Do we need infrastructure? To take care of our own disenfranchised and needy? Provide services to tax paying citizens? The states have limited resources as well. Unmanaged immigration is not good. Immigration laws exist for a reason. I should know, I went through the entire US immigration process legally myself and even sponsored an immigrant while providing support for them. Open borders are no bueno.

Yep I completely agree there. They didn’t upgrade the plants to be ready for a cold snap back in Feb 21. I was right in the middle of it. Can you confidently say nothing has been done to mitigate it for next time? Because it just hit -10 for three days without a problem.

Exsquuze me? What’s your problem?

That should be obvious. I’m in the wrong echo chamber

Can you explain how managing legal immigration is evil? I’m sure Texas would be happy to bus them all to your house. I trust you have the resources to take care of them.

Where is the racism here?

I still don’t see anything regarding race? Yes, it’s dangerous immigrating illegally.
