Maybe they were testing the waters first. Now that there is backlash, it was a "bug".

Strange, when I look at OPs history, I see quite a few in the negative. Maybe it's because I'm from a different instance?

Cool, I hope this gets mass adopted, so that I can replace my RSS reader with my Mastodon account.

I have separate accounts for Lemmy and Pixelfed/Mastodon. Their content is so different, that it's hard to find a unified way of interacting with it (following accounts vs. subscribing to and interacting within communities).

If you still prefer to combine both, you could make an account on kbin.social. With that you can follow both Mastodon and Lemmy content and get a "unified" UI. I cannot say how well it works though, since I haven't tried it myself.

Definitely true for me. I was a pure lurker on Reddit. Now with Lemmy I try to engage a lot more. This place needs to come to life (and I feel like we're doing well, so far).

Linux ist mostly used for servers, where you rarely need/have a graphical environment. A big part of development is making sure to keep the kernel safe and prevent endangering critical infrastructure.

That said, I agree if Linux is to be adopted more widely as a desktop system, good graphical UI is crucial. It's just not the focus of most Linux devs.

I've been using Gnome for multiple years now and I don't plan on switching. Also love GOA in general for the simplicity and ease of use.

However

I wish there was a generic WebDAV/caldav account type. I know you can integrate those using evolution, but why the extra steps? It seems like such a no-brainer considering there is already Nextcloud integration in place.

Amongst others I'm currently playing Baldur's Gate 3 in coop mode.

I absolutely love it (I'm also a huge fan of Dragon Age Origins, so no surprise here).

I just wish cut scenes wouldn't just start playing as soon as one of the players walks into them. Especially since the game is so dense with content (we are still relatively at the beginning though, maybe that changes later on).

I know with most dialogs everybody has the option to listen, but often you're still going to miss the beginning of the conversation. A "wait for other players" button or something like that would be great.

How do other people handle this?

Thanks for making me aware of c/worldbuilding! It's nice to see more niche communities growing.

Let's all make a test, what does this post look like from your instances:

You can deactivate this text in the settings. I did the same because the German translation has the same issue.

"Add toggle in settings to hide descriptions in navbar"

YES, as someone who uses the German version of Jerboa, I was waiting for this!

I agree that the downvotes on your posts in the Jerboa community are rather strange. My theory is that people who downvote your more controversial stuff subsequently go through your whole profile and just downvote everything regardless of content.

I have the same issue. Deleting app data and cache stopped the crash at the start, but I cannot log into my account. It seems the reason for the crash was that the lemmy instance I'm on (and that I was still logged into) uses version 17.x, when Jerboa requires 18.x.

For some reason I did not find this community before. I will try to contribute there. Thank you!

This person will never commit a sex crime, will never say a racist remark, never do anything controversial.

But controversy is good, it generates attention. My fear is that the "optimized" artificial celebrity will be exactly that and it will be a whole new level of shitshow. When you think about it, there are already people who maintain "controversial" public personas for that exact reason (not naming any, since I don't want to give them more attention), so it's not even that far fetched.

Ouch

I'm a little bit conflicted honestly, because I'm not a fan of the idea of A.I. art, in general. But I also have to admit this result looks really good. Very cool character and perspective! I also like your take with him being a defender/carrying no weapon.

I think maybe it needs some more work in the surroundings, because some of the buildings don't make sense (missing walls e.g. around his shield).

I like Pika Backup. It's a frontend for borgbackup that also let's you mount and browse your archive with a few clicks. I think it's pretty handy on a desktop PC. And since it uses borgbackup you also get encryption with it.

I hope you get better soon!

Thanks for the clarification! I'd like to add that this site long predates the whole crypto currency craze. I can see how nowadays the name "cryptopals" does not evoke the best associations.

I'm my opinion, the "basics" set is relatively tame. After that, the headaches might begin, especially if one wants to understand all the math behind it.

Fair point, although !baldurs_gate_3@lemmy.world seems to go fairly well, but the fact that it's a recent game is probably helping.

I wonder how deletion of user data is supposed to work in that regard. Since everything is synced to all federated instances, I guess one would have to file a request for deletion with every instance separately (?)

I never really understood it myself. But from what I've heard from people who are (or rather were) regular Twitter users, they like to follow celebrities or specific journalists (people who have actual interesting things to say). Those people are often not on Mastodon, though.

If you sort by "active" there should be posts with more comments. The "hot" sorting is not really representative for how active users on lemmy are, since it favours younger posts over older posts with lots of comments. You can read the details of the reasoning here .

but I also think it empowers people like me who have the visual ideas but can use the help making them fully fleshed out

I totally get that. In fact, I feel similar because I often have ideas or concepts for visual art, but then I lack the drawing/painting skill to actually realize them (I try to improve, but I rarely find the time to practice). In that way, AI assistance could be seen as a tool to make expression via art more accessible to the masses (especially since not everybody can afford or has the resources to visit an art school).

I think my conflict comes mainly from the immense respect and admiration I have for people who are able to create powerful, realistic images from scratch (e.g. people like Martina Fačková). Maybe I just need to get used to it, I mean calculators exist and that's not a bad thing, because they make our lives easier.

A lot of our AI woes are reflections of questionable human behavior (racist chat models, AI for war, deepfakes and dishonesty).

I find it very interesting, because it poses the question of how much of this behavior is unintentionally woven into AI assisted images. When you look at artists like Martina Fačková, every little detail in her art is intentional and thereby it is also an expression of herself and her views on the world. But with AI art, while the broader composition and concept is intentional, a lot of the details are generated based on how the model is trained (of course you can decide whether you want to go with it or do another pass, in that sense it's maybe a little bit of self-expression still).

Interestingly, looking at your picture I can see bits and pieces of a war/apocalypse sceneries, e.g. the bird in the sky almost looks like a plane, the ruined buildings in the background (please note that this is not meant as criticism, just an observation). Now that I think of it, I'm also reminded of this captain america movie poster. Maybe the AI had some marvel movie posters in its training data ;-).

I'm still trying to make it work for me, because I like the idea in theory. But no matter what I give likes to, I mostly get garbage in my recommendations. And the rare article that's interesting is usually paywalled.

I think you make a great point. It's easier to make an echo chamber in Mastodon/Twitter, since you mostly encounter people you already know (or are connected to via someone you know).

Not that echo chambers are impossible on platforms like Lemmy or Reddit, but I feel like the format of Twitter/Mastodon especially encourages it.

I used Jabber + Pidgin + OTR plugin for quite a while, also hosted my own Prosody server. But I never perceived it as a mainstream thing. Most people I knew used ICQ.

Does anybody know what happens to posts/comments belonging to the deleted account?

I'm asking myself the same question. Do I need to make an account for every platform/service I'm interested in, or can I just use the same account for everything?

From what I've understood so far, the ActivityPub seems to support the integration of different platforms in theory, but there is currently no client software that can show me an integrated feed with everything.

Will do!
