Mishaal is on Mastodon too. He mirrors all his posts there. we should stop posting Xitter links.

Gadgetbridge lets you connect and get data from supported smart or fitness watch without manufacturers app. Completely local.

they mainly use iOS

Well that's not a RCS problem, is it?

it's not interested, and if you want to send your mom high-res videos, you're better off buying her — or yourself — an iPhone

The article is basically repeating "fuck standardisation because a company is not playing fair, so let's give them more money"

Hmm… does that mean their plan to secede from the regular internet isn't working out so well?

I use Telegram for the random chatter but it's getting bloated ever since they added premium features. I understand they have to make money, but some features like stories can't be disabled at all, and they're selling group names with crypto. Matrix is looking a lot better moving forward.

  • Gadgetbridge - If you have compatible fitness/smart watch. keeps data local
  • OpenTracks - Tracking your run/walk/hikes. keeps data local
  • Organic Maps - Offline Maps and navigation
  • Feeder - RSS reader
  • Syncthing-fork -Syncing files across devices
  • mpv-android - Fast no frills video player.

All available on F-Droid

How is mastodon condescending? is this something just to fill that "make something up about a trending topic" quota.

No, they only announced plans to work together with devs to make the transition to mobile easier. It wasn't a "all addons will work on Firefox android" announcement. Hopefully most popular addons transition

AFAIK it's maintained by a group called Ablaze and I think I saw them mention they are university students and opensource enthusiasts in Github discussions.

There are blog posts on their site about changes to their team and leadership. Their blog is in Japanese but I just translate it with Firefox's inbuilt translator. So I don't think it's a single dev.

Thanks for making this but some screenshots or a walkthough would be nice. Also any plans to publish it on f-droid?

Hiding read posts means they're now lost (when you’re logged in) if you didn't save the link somewhere. Can't find it after a day and now you have to check it on incognito.

But if you don't hide posts you've already read, you end up with the same posts on your feed.

it's a very small nitpick though. having new posts load every time I visit lets me see a lot of new content, I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

I hope some app devs can put up a section for "read posts" locally so instances aren't overwhelmed.

The list contains addons that were last updated 3-4 years ago.

uMatrix has been archived since 2021.

How are developers going to update them for mobile when they arent even maintined for desktop?

I'd rather not use iOS at all. Android is infinitely more customizable, powerful, and privacy friendly (with the right OS).

On the topic of your braindead take in this. Make iOS open source first. It's almost like opensource breeds interoperability and closed source breed cultists who think they're better by default.

over a headscarf. just horrible.

It's amazing how people forget these things.

for the insanely rich people with little regards for human rights and encourage slavery. I don't mind...

Now they're not really any better than Android phones in terms of apps and being able to bypass the firewall

What does this mean? You have been able to sideload apps on Android for a decade. How were the iPhones better in terms of apps and being able to bypass the firewall before?

maybe because Beeper devs were upfront about it and their bridges are opensource and self-hostable?

pairdrop.net maybe?

It's mainly for local network, but you can do internet transfers.

https://github.com/schlagmichdoch/pairdrop#features

It gets worse on Fediverse as there are multiple threads to the same link on multiple instances. can't get rid of reposts anymore

Using a process known as plant cell culture, cells from the vegetables are harvested and multiplied in sterile lab conditions. They are then used to create the UV-sensitive printer ink used in the machine. The cells can then be molded and printed in the shape of a carrot, or any shape preferred with the 3D printer

How long does the cell culture take? is it just a slush of food juice made solid or does it taste anything like the real thing.

Even aeroponics don't taste like traditionally grown food, and they're grown from real plants. So many questions

But it will help solve the food scarcity problems if it's made accessible for all. I wish them all the best.

holy fuck! that's being racist for no reason at all

I thought twas a fork of Linux Mint Cinnamon. 😆

You can generally add "-" before a domainname for search engines to prevent content from that domain showing up.

So for reddit, you'd search "weather -reddit.com". It should work. This is short and generally works but If it still shows up "weather -site:reddit.com".

you can also add multiple domains like "-reddit.com -stackoverflowclone.com -seojacked.com"

You can also do this by default using custom search engine with a search string that already contains the domains you don't want.

For ddg:

https://start.duckduckgo.com/?q=%s+-reddit.com

layers and layers of it.

did you read the article?

I’m convinced though that if we want Linux on phones to become an option for everyone, there’s no way around the need for well-integrated support for Android apps

I’ve documented the reverse engineering work on this Github repo, including a very rough step-by-step manual of how to run things.

By giving the next generation less incentive to join a terrorist organization?

But that ship has already sailed.

Advertising privacy does fuck all when Apple has been allowing the government to read push notifications. Where does that promise fit in, while they knowingly supply what the government wants and then still market itself as a privacy friendly company?

Well, Android runs over JVM which runs over Linux. There's overhead and Android needs to compensate. Add in poor memory management and OEMs that happily kill apps in the background for no good reason (even if you tell them not too), and marketing guys trying to out RAM competitors just so they can release a phone with an "upgrade" every year, you get current Android RAMathon.

Beeper sets a good premise. Talk to your friends without ever bugging them about hopping over to a completely new app. You might convert some, but not most.

There's a downside to E2EE on bridged chats but if that's not acceptable within your threat model then you wouldn't be using it in the first place.
