All photos I post are OC.

This obsession with the length and weight of the film is such a bizarre marketing strategy.

Hot take but this is worse than them just staying on Reddit.

why did you remove the Grindr unionization post

Not to mention the karma system on Reddit created some of its most annoying users. Would be terrible to bring it here.

So wild that 6/10 Americans want universal healthcare and yet it has almost zero support from the people actually in congress.

They emailed me thanking me for being a part of their journey for so long and as a gift they are delaying my rate going up by 3 months. Cool…..

I have zero trust in anything decentralized in relation to money. Would definitely like a central authority to complain to when someone scams me. Implementing it like lemmy would make it impossible to effectively ban scammers and would also make searching for stuff annoying as hell. I already hate how annoying it is to search for things on different instances for this stuff.

Lemmy? Maybe. Mastodon? Not a chance.

Lemmy functions perfectly as a Reddit replacement and only adds a mild amount of complexity on top of using Reddit. Mastodon is only similar to Twitter’s use case if you’ve had a few beers and are squinting.

Uhhh???? Based??????????

Samsung doesn't support USB 3 on several of their higher priced phones, either.

Now let’s see if they actually follow through. I’m skeptical.

Doesn’t Qualcomm stop providing drivers after 4 years?

I would have the secret santa one like 3 times. Keep making that mistake when messing around with discord bots.

Subscribed/Active.

I find the default front page actually defeats the Reddit front page in cringe levels by several orders of magnitude. A decent bit of that will fade as Lemmy (hopefully) gains its own identity outside of just being Reddit haters.

I try to see the best in people no matter how terrible they obviously are. It’s a flaw of mine.

Awesome

Internet archive? Likely. It has an archive of a large portion of the beginnings of the internet, which will likely be a major historical source in the future.

Wikipedia? I’m unsure. It’s a collection of information obtained via various sources, most of which would still be extant. Not to put down the work of their project, it is very important. But it’s not impossible to replace like the way back machine.

I keep hoping that he at least thinks he has an endgame for the sake of my faith in the world but it becomes increasingly clear that he doesn’t. I imagine once he sinks it he’ll say it was all a 4D chess play to destroy centralized social media and save freedom of speech though.

yeah. took it in 2021 tho

I do most of my watching on mobile and it’s not worth it to me to do the crazy workaround to not use the official app.

real.

I wouldn't call it astroturfy but its so weird to me. Like nobody is walking around being like "The new PS5 weighs 7.5 pounds and has 139 miles of copper in its motherboard!" repeatedly for weeks. (I made up the amount of copper, but the weight is correct.)

I did. I now only go there with adblock turned on for google search results. Hopefully this place develops niche pages like r/California and r/TeslaMotors soon though.

Mastodon isn’t enough like Twitter imo. It’s too complicated and the separate severs just make things even more difficult. Reddit was always focused on posting under a community, Twitter is community optional. Community optional doesn’t translate well to decentralization at all imo.

How is that functionally different than just having the entire thing be centralized, though? At that point the decentralization is just a footnote that makes the website more confusing. The main instance could be sold off one day and walled off from the other instances and nobody would be able to do anything about it.

On Reddit you post underneath a community. The decentralized abstraction only slightly complicates this. Reddit is just a centralized version of old forums, where you had an account for all your niche interests. Lemmy is the middle ground between those old forums and a central account because you can access all the content from any fediverse account.

On Twitter, you post detached from any community, the only way to be a part of one is purely based on social groups. The average person doesn’t want to have community instances even if they can talk across multiple, they want a social media that can represent themselves and all of their interests on one account. And if you say the solution is for everyone to just join the biggest instance, how is that really any different from a centralized social media anyway? It’s just over complicated for what Twitter is.

Bluesky and Threads will crush Mastodon. And unfortunately, between those two, probably Threads will beat Bluesky.

All these California pics are making me want to live there even more.

We need much larger investment in last mile fiber!

I agree with most of this comment however I do not think more than 40% of the democrats currently in congress would ever vote yes on a universal healthcare bill no matter how air tight. The senate definitely doesn’t help, but I’m not even sure about the house.

Also, couldn’t they bring back net neutrality via the FCC right now? Sure it could get overturned by the next republican majority, but make a public commitment to keep changing it back every time the dems are in power so it’s a waste for companies to try and entrench themselves in business models that rely on its death.

Regardless, this is why I want to move to California so badly. Basically the only state consistently fighting for its people these days.

I don’t use an android.

If you had gotten a high quality phone from another manufacturer it is unlikely you would have had this many hardware problems requiring a replacement. This seems like a toss up.

Hudson River valley?

It seems like your use could be covered by a revived RSS reader-like system, because you want more of a news ticker than social media. That’s fine, but that’s not how a lot of people use Twitter.

I slightly regret selling my Wii U to get a Switch but I think there's still time to backpedal on that one without it being a huge loss.

If this movie was 120 minutes or less I'd see it. I cannot imagine there being 3 hours worth of stuff that I need to know about that guy... not happening!

Security updates are easier than full OS upgrades.

Have they actually done this, or did they just say that they will? It won’t be easy…
