I'm Henry

I do some stuff sometimes

"The choice is between two terrible people. One is actively trying to kill me and the other doesn't care if I die." --A old post I'm unable to find but truly sums up american politics.

What a shame. Stupid fucking pedos.

This title is a little misleading. No, Trump has not been arrested but he did appear in court. He is not in any form of jail (yet).

I hope this is mostly satire. IIRC it represents the police and support for the police. (ACAB)

Beat me to it :). His weight and height should be out soon if anyone wants to make bets.

Good point. I'll adjust the plan accordingly. Speak naught of my mistake and you can rise up the pyramid.

Oh that's such BS. They let him self report.

Trickle down economics my friend. Hope you're having a great day <3

Yeah, it feels like there's less drama.

I think the broader question may be how lemmy could appeal to more users that aren't just redditors who value privacy. (Though the same could be said for all FOSS tech)

Of course. As long as that violence is excessive kindness.

You're gonna have to call the aliens who built the first pyramid.

Perfect for my inner anarchist :)

Valid.

Every time I see this reposted I smile. It's so well written and perfectly sums up my feelings on the internet.

I’ll wear both!

Super neiche communities. I will never be able to fully switch until I can get them. Also shitposting to the degree that reddit has. I get that others may thoroughly hate it but I find it hilarious.

Ooh, that's cool!

I was literally just shopping for cloak sewing templates. If anything I’ll have a nice costume.

Huh, that's cool.

Yep! I'd love to see indie bicycle companies grow. (homemade bikes too but those are more complicated)

OMG I love that!

Just FYI vanillaOS is an awesome system to suggest to both new users and experienced ones. None of the snap BS but still based on Ubuntu. It also makes it really hard to mess up your system. Vanilla Gnome too. Check it out.

ooh awesome! my fav game.

Blue! Especially the lighter shades. Most of the things I own are blue which is entirely accidental. I’ll be buying something and when choosing a color I always gravitate towards the blue, not thinking about how much blue stuff I already own. 🤣

That is all true with authentic pizza but as long as I know what I'm getting all of those things (except the ranch are fine with me. If I'm going to a high end pizza restraunt I expect it to be made with flour instead of cornmeal and preferably wood fired but for a home cooked meal I love the cornmeal on shitty store bought dough. Maybe that's just me though, I had it my whole childhood that way.

For whatever reasons my friends were messing around giving each other weird nicknames and I ended up with metal toilet (we had just been in a gas station that must’ve had a metal toilet). I tried it out I a couple things and it’s stuck since.

Now those who oppose trump must spread it everywhere to humiliate him and not let his fans use it to "own the libs".

I think copywrite should exist in some form for creative works made by an individual (maybe 20 years with extensions as some series take forever to finish) but for corporations it should be much much shorter or nonexistant. I wonder what would happen if any new groundbreaking tech was automatically public domain. How much more affordable and innovative would everything be?

I'm gonna edit the TL;DR :)

Can we refrain from using the R slur please?

undefined> It’s a cute idea that will never work in practice.

Why not?

Guy was just converted into a FOSS nerd. Give it a few months and he'll own a thinkpad with a custom i3 rice and be saying "I use arch btw".

Jokes aside, I think apple is a terrible company. Sure, their products are amazing but they're grossly overpriced and not FOSS or compatible with anything else.

The iphone 14 pro max costs $464 to make and retails for $2000. That's not innovation, that's grifting. Besides, the main difference between the Iphone 11 and 14 is the price (no, the camera is not that much better, i don't care what you say).

Apple also intentionally gatekeeps their products (Vender Lock-in) making the experience worse for everyone who doesn't own Apple products. They could adopt the open standard that all other phones use for texting (MMS I think it's called) but instead they use imessage to make your experience worse when texting people with Androids. This also makes it hard to switch to an Android even if it's better. And don't even get me started on the charger situation.

Also, they use privacy as a branding statement but we have no way to verify that claim. They could be selling all our data and be well within their rights. If they were open source we would be able to verify that claim.

I can't really talk though because I own a (refurbished) Iphone. I do this because a) the messaging system and b) my whole family is in the apple ecosystem (with no way out) so I get benefits of our family plan like tons of storage.

For the time being, yes. However, the underlying tech is based on good ideas and maybe in the future it can and will be used.

Check out Austin McConnell's Bargain Bin Cinematic Universe! Besides the animated spider mans its the only superhero movies I've been looking forward to for a while.

No. Mars is an inhospitable wasteland that will never be truly suited for humans due to the differences in size. Our planet is currently turning into a fucking wasteland and anyone who thinks that they can just create a new planet is delusional. Our planet is also still viable for many more billions of people if we could just take care of it! Things like permaculture are far more sustainable for larger populations. In a few hundred years, once Elon is long dead and forgotten, and if we can somehow be living in a form of a sustainable society, fine. (Also as far as terraforming planets go, if we were thinking about ever doing something like this we should be looking at venus, not earth. It's so similar to earth in terms of size that it's often called our sister planet. It also may have supported life sometime in the past.)

TL;DR: Hell no, for the next 500-1000 years and until our planet is livable.
