"The worst threat to man is man himself" Bangambiki Habyarimana, The Great Pearl of Wisdom

Quite clever!

This action makes a good headline for re-election purposes.

I've never been to India. Unfortunately I've heard mostly negative things:

  • Rampant rape of women
  • Too much garbage
  • Smells bad
  • Treating anyone non-Indian badly or will try to take advantage of them financially
  • Overcrowded
  • Poverty
  • Low wages
  • Culture that puts down women / treats them much lower than men instead of being equal

Why would people want to buy light bulbs? Are they going to throw them at people?

Is your cat declawed? Sometimes cats that are declawed might not want to use the litter box. It's one of the problems with declawing.

Declawing cats is a horrible practice and should never be done.

Finalize my will.

It doesn't make money to produce a product that kills your customer base quickly. Killing them slowly is what the cigarette industry does. Get the customer to purchase over and over again.

Mid 30s isn't "old as fuck".

That being said, not everyone is destined to be in a relationship. Some people are just socially awkward or annoying to be around and don't have either the guidance or desire to change.

Some people don't even realize that they are annoying or off-putting to others, and so they can't understand why no one will be their friend or get into a relationship with them. Sometimes they tend to blame other people as the problem instead of themselves.

This is absolutely horrible advice. Being financially broke doesn't mean having to be morally broke. Those who don't have much money don't have to become bad people.

It's like art, you know it when you see it.

Buy medical debt. You can clear someone’s $150,000 debt for like $200.

How do you do this?

It's unfortunate that the child porn has started to creep in.

Simmaraly

You meant "Similarly" (like "similar" but with an "ly" at the end).

I used to use RiF (Reddit is Fun). Then it died. I searched for an alternative to Reddit.

No thanks.

There are (or were) definitely some subs that were harder to moderate than others I'd imagine.

There's 41 houses/duplexes for sale in my city at or under $50k. The lowest are listed at $5,000 but someone could probably buy it for less. The city also provides $20,000 in money to fix up any of the houses they own.

I have never heard it described that way. It's the last warm weather of the year before winter. It was something to look forward to.

I'm having the hardest time using Lemmy. I got Jerboa and subscribed to 3 communities. However I see other communities online and Jerboa can't seem to find them. How can I force Jerboa to locate a community?

People keep saying Lemmy is easy to use but it doesn't seem to be so far even though I'm really trying to stay away from Reddit. That's one thing that Reddit has an advantage in, it's very easy to use.

That's not true. I've sold real estate to a buyer without a realtor.

If you're looking for a representation of America, it's basically violence and apathy.

Cell phones don't have to cost that much. Google Voice numbers are free. You can still have a cell phone and not have a data plan.

I hardly ever order food to my home. One time in the past 5 years I've ordered pizza and had someone deliver it. It's not worth the cost.

I rarely go out for fast food.

It's always an unpopular opinion to say that there are bad people in the world but it's the truth.

Thanks for the suggestions. However they didn't work.

What's odd is that the instance I joined does seem to know about the other instance as I can see one community on the other instance. Could the community on the other instance be "hiding" themselves somehow?

Here's the one I'm trying to join: https://midwest.social/c/milwaukee

Edit: I finally got it to work! I went to the web interface for my instance and kept searching for it and then it finally found it. Once the web interface found it, then Jerboa found it.

Disagree, so you're correct in that it's an unpopular opinion.

Funny you should post this, I was just struggling with the same issue. However I have my default sort as "New" and the content in the community sorts as "Active". It's just completely ignoring the default sort.

Ideally it would be nice to have a default sort, then the ability to override the sort by community.

35m^2 = approximately 377 sqft

There's plenty of small apartments in the United States, just as there's a lot of small (under 1000 sqft) houses. But apparently, the minimum square footage people demand these days for houses is 2,000.

If there was a course in carpentry, I would take that.

There's not enough engagement/subscribers on the Lemmy equivalent of the primary Reddit sub I visit.

Understandable.

And if the landlord pays it you can be damn certain it's gonna end up in your rent calculation.

Well obviously, they aren't going to work for free.

Small 2 bedroom houses under 1000 sqft, even newly renovated, don't sell as well as 3 bedroom houses at least 1500 sqft. This is reality. People have more "stuff" than they used to and that "stuff" requires a larger amount of square footage.

If you live in a place for 2 years and have to spend $18,000 on a mortgage and $20,000 on repairs, that's definitely more expensive than just paying $24,000 in rent. Not everyone has $20,000 just laying around to fix stuff. They'd rather spend $20,000 over 2 years going on vacation, eating out, or having fun.

since owner wants to make money

You mean, earning money from their job (managing the property). It's not free money, it's their income. Just like other people get a paycheck from a regular job, landlords are just self employed. Running your own business might mean not taking a lot of pay (or no pay) some years.

Some people judge others based on assumptions, not on actual actions.

Swearing at someone doesn't foster discussion.

I didn't.

There are people who can't save up for a down payment and therefore wouldn't be able to responsibly take care of a house even if they were given one.

There's people who don't want to own a house. A house comes with a bunch of costs and responsibility.

  • Your furnace goes out in winter, bam, that can be an expensive service call or several thousands of dollars to replace.
  • Your sewer line backs up because of tree roots on a Sunday or holiday and now it's several hundred dollars to get a drain company out there.
  • Need a new roof? That's a $5,000+ expense all at once.

These are just a few examples. There's quite a number more. Some people like knowing that expenses like that are covered by someone else.

In the grocery store example, there's people who like growing their own food. For others, they'd rather someone else do that even if they're paying a markup to buy it from a grocery store, because they can get everything in one place.
