Just uninstall cups-browsed, how are you going to print w/o CUPS?

Meanwhile I want a tablet with phone call support. (Samsung Tabs with LTE/5G are carrier locked)

You install the same OS, you get the same experience.

If only...

Here is this giant enemy crab

Let me elaborate. I have spent quite a lot of time providing voluntary tech support on Reddit and forums. In both of them you will see people having a blast & praising the community, and people pulling their hair due to frustrating issues right next to each other. Having the same OS or distro does not guarantee the same experience. People have different hardware, run different software and play different games. Also, choices regarding compat layers can make a difference, for example someone forces Proton Experimental on all games and it works out, while sb else uses Proton stable and it doesn't work. Or the other way around. Oh, also don't get me started on my Linux experience, it's a roller coaster.

Dualsense and DS4 have official drivers from Sony

Mobile FF is already awesome with UBlock Origin and YT background playback extensions. I wish to install an auto redirect extension. (Twitter to Nitter) I know it is doable on beta w/ extensions etc. but I want to see them on normal Firefox.

I just want to buy a Linux laptop with VoLTE and be done with the product line "smart phone". Unfortunately there is no such device (to my knowledge) and the only device that comes close is PinePhone Pro with docking station.

Finally a systemd praise post after so many hateful remarks. I knew systemd could do dns resolving but just learned it could handle the entire network stack and replace NetworkManager. I have a question: How can services such as Apache adapt to both NM and systemd at the same time? NM and systemd have different wait-online services. You can also add systemd-analyze for boot time analysis to the list.

Better organization and backup / restore. For example if you want to restore config files but don't want to move over the large ".local" folder, applications that write to $HOME will create diifculty.

Oh shit, here we go again.

That was brutal.

This is not mildly infuriating. This is intensely rage inducing.

As a user of Linux and primarily FOSS software for 2 years, each time I recommended something FOSS, others had bad luck.

  • I tried switching someone to Linux but I couldn't achive %100 funnctionality on a Windows only app I set up via Wine. (it is an obscure program, not sth like Adobe or MS Office)
  • I recommended Kdenlive to a Mac user friend, he couldn't export a video he spent 30 hours on it.
  • I convinced someone to use Libreoffice but they lost data in only 30 mins because I forgot to tell that if you draw more than a few strokes in LO Draw it enters a save loop. This is fixed now thankfully.
  • I recommended VLC for DVD ripping, it entered some sort of loop and failed to export.

Each of the above examples involve completely different people, by the way.

  • I set up 2 fresh Windows installs for family but installed Firefox with strict protection and uBlock Origin instead of Chrome and... it worked?! They still use Firefox. Maybe the alpenglow theme is too good, I don't know.

Which means that you would only be able to play it on approved hardware.

Good for Librem I guess...

Do you mean a video with multiple songs split by chapters? Like this one? You can use yt-dlp with --split chapters -x options. -x extracts audio.

Installing updates... Do not turn off your computer

In KWin’s new (off-by-default) “Hide Cursor” effect, you can now turn off hiding it after inactivity, and only hide it while typing (Vlad Zahorodnii, Plasma 6.2.0. Link)

Does Plasma Bigscreen still receive updates? This feature would be very useful with it. Arch's bigscreen package is unfortunately stuck at 5.27

KDE Connect, Spectacle

Ripping those disks is legitimately easier than playing them w/o breaking DRM on PCs

I sent you my obligatory upvote.

Why do you think apps should verify their integrity in the first place? In the case of banking apps or other online apps, the APIs they use should be secure in the first place so a user can't achieve anything meaningful by modifying API calls. In the case of offline games with monetization, a hacker who makes a pirated APK will also remove the restriction so legitimate players on non standart ROMs will get screwed. In the case of messaging apps with a "delete messages" or "one time view" function ie. Whatsapp, the sender shouldn't take that their actions will be respected by other clients because modded apps exist and Whatsapp doesn't care if you install it on a rooted device.

In 2 interviews, the interviewees claim that the investors may lose faith in return of investment if "the killer application of AI" is not available in 18 months. In other words, if the AI is a bubble, my interpretation is that it will burst in only 18 months. I tried to do sth similar with limited success using Steam remote play. This is great but I have 2 questions:

  • Did you look into memory deduplication?
  • Is client software sunshine or custom software?

These days there are games and launchers to avoid instead of choose, giving you a wide pool of selection. Just pick whatever you want to play and check these 2 sites: protondb.com (for Steam games) areweanticheatyet.com (for multiplayer games)

I think that is the true reason. For example D+ has around 160 mil subs but they are still losing money. What are they going to do next, beat Netflix in sub count? No, they already reached their limit already and started to lose subs. They should cut costs instead of chasing revenue.

For the Steam library I suppose?

I meant RAM deduplication. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=linux+same+page+merging&t=fpas&ia=web

For on disk deduplication, Steam supports user-specified locations for installing games and dependencies like Steam Linux Runtime. 2 users can theoretically use the same Steam library at the same time. To evade issues, auto updates should be disabled in the Steam clients. Steam doesn't support completely disabling updates afaik, the best is setting update period to 3.00-4.00 AM. DXVK cache files must be located outside the Steam library folder. Otherwise if 2 people play the same game with Proton at the same time, cache files may be corrupted. (the default is the folder with game exe) Info on changing cache file location: link
