This article has so few details. How do we think they're pulling this off? Phones? A Flipper maybe? And then what?

My only wish is that they made a smaller version. I realize that that's probably impossible, given their goals (smaller phones are probably harder to repair). But man do I miss small phones

I can install any app I want on my Mac. How is this different?

Fun fact: this calendar exists and was in use by Eastman Kodak for most of its existence:

Thank you for this great tool!

Is there a way I could use this to find a Lemmy instance that let's me interact with desired instances? For example:

  • I want to participate in Instance A, B, and C.
  • A has defederated from B and C
  • can I generate a list of instances that let's me interact with A, B, and C? Then I'll move my account there.

Thank you!

so this is the new Reddit huh

Here's a great tool for finding Lineage-supported phones that even lets you search by size!

Hackable Phones According to their search, the smallest supported phone might be the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

However, as an XZ1 Compact user, I have to throw my recommendation to that Sony device. It's great.

EDIT: Also, just realized that the official Lineage page has a search feature that lets you set your desired screen size. Check it out here.

It's not real but I don't understand who benefits from faking this

Not sure why "old+judge" automatically equals "tech illiterate." The judge in another high-profile Google case taught himself to code

No prob. BTW, you might enjoy the Compact Phones community. We're small, but we like it that way

Reader View is working for me with that website. The only issue is that it writes out the phrase "link opens in New tab" after every link.

Do you have cookie settings or extensions that might be interfering with something?

Thank you. As someone who is very interested in Linux, and someone who has proselytized my tech choices in the past ("Everyone should use Signal"), one of my big fears about switching to Linux is that I'll never shut up about it, and I'll bore my friends.

Thank you for showing me that there is another way

Never mind, I fixed it! For anyone who wants to do the same: Inside the Tree Style Tab / All Configs menu, I had to uncheck "FaviconizePinned Tabs".

Now all my pinned tabs are stacked on top of each other. Not quite what I was going for, but acceptable.

Really? Coworkers, crazy people, assholes. There's a lot of people who don't fall into those groups, I hope

I'm confused. I've been using this extension for years on desktop without this issue. I think it has an option where you can install a companion conversion app on your machine and bypass the QR code. Am I mistaken?

Do I need Droid-ify, Obtaniun, and F-Droid Basic? Feels like there's a lot of overlap there, no?

Any FOSS keyboards with swipe-to-text? Always seems like they're missing that

I didn't read Solrize's comment as saying "There shouldn't be paywalls," just asking the very legitimate question as to how they will interact with federation.

Interestingly, 404 just solved something kinda related: they developed a way for subscribers to get a custom RSS feed address, so they can access paywalled articles directly in their RSS reader. TMK, they are the first publication to do this. I imagine they would do something similar for federation. (I believe that if any of the custom RSS feeds show huge traffic numbers, 404 shuts it down, but I'm not sure)

I've almost entirely dropped reddit for Lemmy. I still go back to reddit for tech support and some niche communities that haven't made the jump yet. But I'd guess that my reddit usage is down 90% YOY.

Hard to tell bc so many people on Lemmy use "Tankie" as "anyone to the left of me"

This. I've been using the Fossil Collider HR with Gadgetbridge for over a year. I love it, and I love that it's keeping my data safe

If you're talking news media, much of their worst behavior is rooted in the ad-driven business model. Subscriptions would actually help make things better. Not sure if there's a way to leverage the fediverse for a subscription play, though

Wow you heard that crazy bro

Yeah, I've seen this on flights since 2010

Damn, sorry

Huh? Where?

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, because you're making a ton of sense. It's not about Tim Pool, who is a dumb incel POS. It's about the HUGE dangers of giving a company unilateral power to ban someone based solely on speech.

What if Bandcamp's new owners are more like Facebook? They could ban work that promotes women's rights and abortion access, which is exactly what Facebook has done.

What if Bandcamp's new owners (or the owners after them) are more like Twitter? They could ban antifascist activists or journalists.

It truly doesn't matter how you feel about one person. It matters how you feel about principles.

Lol yes, 2 days ago

Tainted Love could totally work, thank you!

Mr. Roboto is over 5 min long, no?

I use the Fossil Collider HR with Gadgetbridge and it's pretty great. Three are some downsides though:

  • The set-up is a little bit of a hassle. You need to get the Collider's secret key, and that requires installing a jailbroken version of the Fossil app
  • Any changes you want to make to the watch display have to be made in the Fossil app, which means you have to install that app and do a bit of a runaround whenever you want to change something

But aside from that, it's been a good year with my Collider HR and Gadgetbridge

My Asus Zenfone 8 is still going strong after 2+ years. Case and screen protector help, of course

Yes, because he taught himself.

“At some point, I looked at the BASIC book and decided I would learn that.” He taught himself straight from the book, which he recalls was “pretty straightforward.”
